You can bet Russia has thought this through beforehand and will take its revenge by helping close the Syrian-Turkish border area that allows IS to be supplied by its western and gulf state terrorism supporters. NDPP, You seem to have up to the minute reports on the downing of the Russian jet and if they prove correct that this incident took place in Syrian airspace you can expect some very serious repercussions in the not too distant future. Turkey is hiding behind the big bully's U.S.-Central bankers-NATO membership but that won't help very much if the game is to play dirty as you say. Putin has given his warning to those who continue to support IS against the Assad government in Syria and I don't believe these threats are given lightly.

Supplemental: the NATO texts, etc. has an Article (5) in regard to a member state being attacked by a non-member.
There is no clause covering an act of violence or attack by a NATO member on a non-member.
It's literally beyond their imagination. This incident may contribute to ripping apart the predatory NATO alliance in Europe. Certainly, France, Germany, among others, will take a much more dim view of this shoot down than other member states.

Some more perspectives and remarks.
One of the most elementary things anyone could have predicted at the start of Russia's anti-terrorist intervention in Syria would be that its aircraft would come under some type of air-to-air or air-to-ground threat -- there's nothing new or necessarily unexpected in this happening -- but what remains to be seen is how Russia responds to this.
Contrary to hyper-enthusiastic alarmists, there isn't going to be a nuclear apocalypse, and Russia's response will likely take the form of covertly arming the Kurds and/or reciprocating by shooting down a Turkish jet above Syrian airspace.NATO and the US encouraged this provocation because they want to put pressure on the Russian public, not the military. This in no way deters Russia's anti-terrorist fortitude, but it is engineered to decrease public support for the campaign. I personally don't think it will succeed in this regard, but it should be clear that this wasn't, nor isn't even capable of, stopping Russia's active anti-terrorist operations.
All that it does is escalate the current New Cold War tensions and shows how closely Erdogan works with the US and the lengths he's willing to go to curry favor with his masters.

Instead of reaching for their sidearm, which is standard US practice, the Russians will wait, analyze, and see. Mind you, I think the Russian FM, Sergei Lavrov, just advised Russian tourists not to go to Turkey.
Turkey is a favourite destination of Russian tourists because there is no visa requirement. So you have to figure that the Turkish economy will suffer as the Egyptian economy will suffer due to the precipitous drop in tourist revenue. We are talking tens and hundreds of millions of dollars.

Undoubtedly, the NATO overlords in Washington will force the satellites to "support" Turkey's act of war. Behind the scenes, there will be furious attempts to make "Sultan" Erdogan back off.
But revenge is a dish best served cold. Some long term ideas:
1) "Technical problems" cutting off natural gas to Turkey. 60% of Turkey's natural gas is imported from...Russia.
2) Spetznaz on delicate missions cracking "rebel" Turkey-paid/weaponized Turkmen, Uzbek, Uyghur skulls galore.
3) A de facto no-fly zone along the Syrian border with Russian fighters ready to shoot down any Turk intruder at the slightest "mistake".
4) "Discreet" weaponizing of the PKK enabling them to raise appropriate hell all over Anatolia.
And this is just the shortlist.
Make no mistake, this is some serious s*it. If the Turkish initial claims are true about "warning" the Russian pilot 10 times, etc., then you can be sure that Turkey consulted with their Washington masters. Which means the downing of the aircraft had Washington's approval.

The helicopter was damaged by ground fire and made an emergancy landing... the local rebels in the area seen it sitting there and then destroyed it with a TOW missle (as the damaged helicopter sat on the ground); they did not shot it down with a TOW missle.

I mean really, is there any surprise at all that the surviving pilot would claim they received no warnings and weren't in Turkish airspace at any time before the shoot down? It all comes down to who you want to believe.
I agree with what most military analysts are saying: the Turkish jets should have intercepted the two aircraft and escorted them out of Turkish air space.

After WWI, however, we decided to create Remembrance Day on the anniversary of the armistice. That war was a much longer and (proportionally) more murderous catastrophe in Canada than in the U.S. So soon thereafter, we moved Thanksgiving up a month, so as not to be killing turkeys and poppies at the same time.

"Russian sources revealed on Thursday that the pilot [navigator] of the Russian Su-24 jet that was shut down by Turkey over Syrian airspace on Tuesday, was rescued in an operation by Iran's globally renowned IRGC Qods Force Commander Major General Soleimani.
One of the reasons for the success of the operation was differences between Turkey and the terrorists over the fate of the Russian pilot [navigator]. The Turks wanted him alive to use for political blackmailing against Russia. The terrorists in the region wanted to burn him alive like what was done to the Jordanian pilot to fill other Russian pilots with fright.
And this rift paved the ground for rescue operations with some golden hours, since the opposition never dreamed such rapid planning and action by the rescue squads would be possible..."
