NATO member Turkey has shot down a Russian  jet on the Syrian side of the Syrian-Turkish border, returning to its Latakia base. ISIS supply lines pass from Turkey to Syria and Russia has been attempting to cut these.

NATO member Turkey now stands exposed as providing air-cover for terrorist ground forces. The fact that Russian pilots were then shot dead in cold blood by Western rebel proxies will only intensify things.

Simultaneous to this attack by NATO's Turkey, their Kiev clown-show also shows indications of erupting once again. Electricity transmission lines from Ukraine to Crimea were blown up by Right Sector militants and Ukraine has now declared a full cargo blockade of Crimea. The Americans are playing a very dirty and dangerous double game. Pretending to be for peace when actively colluding for war. Canada of course is with them on this.

RT is reporting that takfiri rebels involved in the murder of the Russian pilots descending by parachute into Syria, have offered their bodies in exchange for the release of their members previously taken prisoner and held by Syria.

BRF

The inevitable has finally happened. You can bet Russia has thought this through beforehand and will take its revenge by helping close the Syrian-Turkish border area that allows IS to be supplied by its western and gulf state terrorism supporters. I imagine at some future point at a time and choosing of Russia the Erdogans will pay a personal price.

BRF

NDPP, You seem to have up to the minute reports on the downing of the Russian jet and if they prove correct that this incident took place in Syrian airspace  you can expect some very serious repercussions in the not too distant future. Turkey is hiding behind the big bully's U.S.-Central bankers-NATO membership but that won't help very much if the game is to play dirty as you say. Putin has given his warning to those who continue to support IS against the Assad government in Syria and I don't believe these threats are given lightly.

Supplemental: the NATO texts, etc. has an Article (5) in regard to a member state being attacked by a non-member.

There is no clause covering an act of violence or attack by a NATO member on a non-member.

It's literally beyond their imagination. This incident may contribute to ripping apart the predatory NATO alliance in Europe. Certainly, France, Germany, among others, will take a much more dim view of this shoot down than other member states.

Some more perspectives and remarks.

Andrew Korybko wrote:
One of the most elementary things anyone could have predicted at the start of Russia's anti-terrorist intervention in Syria would be that its aircraft would come under some type of air-to-air or air-to-ground threat -- there's nothing new or necessarily unexpected in this happening -- but what remains to be seen is how Russia responds to this.
Contrary to hyper-enthusiastic alarmists, there isn't going to be a nuclear apocalypse, and Russia's response will likely take the form of covertly arming the Kurds and/or reciprocating by shooting down a Turkish jet above Syrian airspace.

NATO and the US encouraged this provocation because they want to put pressure on the Russian public, not the military. This in no way deters Russia's anti-terrorist fortitude, but it is engineered to decrease public support for the campaign. I personally don't think it will succeed in this regard, but it should be clear that this wasn't, nor isn't even capable of, stopping Russia's active anti-terrorist operations.

All that it does is escalate the current New Cold War tensions and shows how closely Erdogan works with the US and the lengths he's willing to go to curry favor with his masters.

And another PERSPECTIVE

Pepe Escobar wrote:
This was the FIRST TIME that a NATO fighter jet downed a Russian fighter jet SINCE THE START OF THE COLD WAR.

Sultan Erdogan The Last is probably thinking he's Mehmet about to conquer Constantinople. With F-16s.

Russian President V. V. Putin wrote:
"We will analyse everything, and today’s tragic event will have significant consequences, including for Russia-Turkish relations. We have always treated Turkey as a friendly state. I don’t know who was interested in what happened today, certainly not us. And instead of immediately getting in contact with us, as far as we know, the Turkish side immediately turned to their partners from Nato to discuss this incident, as if we shot down their plane and not they ours."

Instead of reaching for their sidearm, which is standard US practice, the Russians will wait, analyze, and see. Mind you, I think the Russian FM, Sergei Lavrov, just advised Russian tourists not to go to Turkey.

Turkey is a favourite destination of Russian tourists because there is no visa requirement. So you have to figure that the Turkish economy will suffer as the Egyptian economy will suffer due to the precipitous drop in tourist revenue. We are talking tens and hundreds of millions of dollars.

Edited to add: see Lavrov says Russians should refrain from visiting Turkey (TASS)

V.V.Putin wrote:
"We have long been recording the movement of a large amount of oil and petroleum products to Turkey from Isis-occupied territories. This explains the significant funding the terrorists are receiving. Now they are stabbing us in the back by hitting our planes that are fighting terrorism. This is happening despite the agreement we have signed with our American partners to prevent air incidents, and, as you know, Turkey is among those who are supposed to be fighting terrorism within the American coalition.

If Isis is making so much money – we are talking about tens or maybe even hundreds of millions, possibly billions of dollars – in oil trade and they are supported by the armed forces of an entire state, it is clear why they are being so daring and impudent, why they are killing people in such gruesome ways, why they are committing terrorist attacks all over the world, including in the heart of Europe."

Undoubtedly, the NATO overlords in Washington will force the satellites to "support" Turkey's act of war. Behind the scenes, there will be furious attempts to make "Sultan" Erdogan back off.

But revenge is a dish best served cold. Some long term ideas:

Pepe Escobar wrote:

1) "Technical problems" cutting off natural gas to Turkey. 60% of Turkey's natural gas is imported from...Russia.

2) Spetznaz on delicate missions cracking "rebel" Turkey-paid/weaponized Turkmen, Uzbek, Uyghur skulls galore.

3) A de facto no-fly zone along the Syrian border with Russian fighters ready to shoot down any Turk intruder at the slightest "mistake".

4) "Discreet" weaponizing of the PKK enabling them to raise appropriate hell all over Anatolia.

And this is just the shortlist.

Make no mistake, this is some serious s*it. If the Turkish initial claims are true about "warning" the Russian pilot 10 times, etc., then you can be sure that Turkey consulted with their Washington masters. Which means the downing of the aircraft had Washington's approval.

Russia deploys missile cruiser off Syrian coast

RT wrote:
Russia now plans to implement new measures aimed at strengthening the security of the country’s air base in Syria and in particular to bolster air defense.

Russian guided missile cruiser Moskva, equipped with the ‘Fort’ air defense system, similar to the S-300, will be deployed off Latakia province's coast.

"We warn that every target posing a potential threat will be destroyed,” lieutenant general Sergey Rudskoy said during the briefing.

All military contacts with Turkey will be suspended,” he added.

Is Sultan Erdogan listening or taking further instructions from Washington?

Turkey has played a leading role in fomenting the unrest in Syria since the very beginning of the uprising against the rule of Bashar al-Assad in 2011. Turkey has aided, abetted, and funded ISIS by keeping its southern border open with Syria, allowing radical jihadists from Europe to cross back and forth from ISIS-controlled territory, thereby enabling them to return to Europe to plot and execute such attacks as were recently carried out in the French capital.

Turkish commodity dealers have funded ISIS through their purchase of, by one estimate, $50 million a month in black-market oil. Indeed, reports have surfaced alleging that none other than Erdogan’s son Bilal has been a key financial benefactor of this unseemly business.

Syrian Rebels Describe US Backed Training in Qatar (2014)

"In a documentary to be aired Tuesday night, the rebels describe their clandestine journey from the Syrian battlefield to meet with their American handlers in Turkey and then travel on to Qatar, where they say they received training in the use of sophisticated weapons and fighting techniques, including, one rebel said, 'how to finish off soldiers still alive after an ambush.'

In recent months, at least five rebel units have posted videos showing their members firing US-made TOW anti-tank missiles at Syrian positions. The weapons are believed to have come from Saudi Arabia, but experts on international arms transfers have told McClatchy that they could not have been given to the rebels without the approval of the Obama administration..."

Would Turkey Act Without US Permission? Daniel McAdams

http://sptnkne.ws/agWD

"One question is would [Turkish President] Erdogan do this without US permission, without US support', he asks. 'Even if this Russian jet wandered into Syrian airspace, how is it that the Turkish F-16s scrambled, met their target and took out their target in a matter of seconds, and how is it that the Russian plane crashed in Syria itself?'

'I find it interesting that NATO General Jens Stoltenberg all of a sudden turned his rhetoric down about 12 notches. I think he realizes that things have just gotten real,' he said.

The reports of so-called 'moderate' rebel groups shooting at pilots as they drifted in parchutes toward the ground - an act many would consider a war-crime - also highlight the problems of Western strategies in supporting those groups. 'The whole idea that these people are moderates is insane.' McAdams said.

'So, 14 years after al Qaeda attacked the US on 9/11, the US is talking about bringing an Al Qaeda affliate in as a 'moderate opposition' in Syria..?"

Prime Minister Trudeau Says Canada Will Help 'De-Escalate' Tensions Between Russia, Turkey

'And I'm certainly counting on Canada to remain a productive voice making sure that cooler heads prevail and calm is restored.'

Given Canada's obedient US vassal status, its full throated support of the US-installed Nazi oligarchy in Ukraine, not to mention Trudeau's own campaign characterization of Russia's president as a 'dangerous bully', this suggestion Canada could play some kind of honest broker between Russia and Turkey is ridiculous. I mean really, is there any surprise at all that the surviving pilot would claim they received no warnings and weren't in Turkish airspace at any time before the shoot down? It all comes down to who you want to believe.

I agree with what most military analysts are saying: the Turkish jets should have intercepted the two aircraft and escorted them out of Turkish air space.

This is all I have to say on this. Everyone have a Happy Thanksgiviing if your into that.

And you know, for the longest time, I assumed it was because of climate. Canada gets colder earlier, so we must have our harvest earlier. (Is what I thought)

Which doesn't really make much sense, I guess, since most Canadians live within a few hours, tops, from the northern USA, so the climate wouldn't be all that different.
