A Black day for Canada

A black day for Canada

February 4th,2016  will go down in history as a black day for Canada as our trade minister Chrystia Freeland is down in New Zealand signing on the  dotted line for the Trans Pacific Partnership.

Does she really know what she is signing?  Probably not. In all her press coverage she continually refers to the TPP as a “free trade” deal and brags about how many consultations she has had with Canadians-70 at last count.  She is a parrot with a limited vocabulary.  Those of us who have actually taken the trouble to take a closer look know it is about much more. It is a very real threat to this country and an attack on the last remnants of our sovereignty.

She will no doubt prattle on about the TPP terrified of getting into any substantive dialogue with Canadians as that’s when the truth rolls out.   Openness, transparency and consultation are mere window dressing when the decision has already been made.

In the meantime our job is to make sure this corporate power grab never gets to Parliament! We must demand that it goes to a referendum before then.

One thing I can assure you. Once it gets to parliament it’s a slam dunk, we lose, game over.

It’s going to take some big numbers to get the message across so let’s do it

I think I saw a book not long ago that was all about the plutocrats and how the rich were becoming richer at the expense of everyone else. If I can get my hands on it, I'll send it to Freeland. She might find it instructive. On the other hand, she might just dismiss it as trash, written by some left-wing crank. Does anyone remember who the author was?

Mr. Magoo

Canada doesn't just have a Black day, it's got a Black month.

And that's a good thing.

Thanks for this post and your sincerity...yes sooner or later Canadians will have to be taking the world and its power elites a little bit more seriously...

What is now necessary is an extra parliamentary resistance movement to globalization and the formation of an alternative political movement to challenge the system.....

Dint worry it's okay; Chrystia studied economics under Summers! To think they picked her I've McQuaig. Hey Monty or Pondering, come and tell us why this is a good thing. You guys always have the answers, right? Oh and don't try and blame Mulcair. You guys are in charge. You own it!

Regarding petitions, there is a government website for officially sponsored petitions here:  https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en  Perhaps I'll look into drawing one up and submitting it to an MP to sponsor.

Ontario made a real mistake voting for Wynne.  Canada made a real mistake voting for Trudeau.  Hopefully through power of the people we can stop this deal.

Don't ignore facts on the ground. The Trudeau government is gaining in popularity as each day goes by. And even with the NDP now as they are being recognized as a voice in parliament. And the TPP seems to be popular with the Canadian people. Not to say that I support it myself but I have to come to the point of being somewhat neutral on it because of the fact that Canada can't be excluded from trade with the world. If the US goes for it with Clinton as their pres, which means that she's lying, then that will influcence whether or not Canada needs to go along too.

I could be wrong, but the analysis I've seen indicates that Canada as a country would lose very little by not joining the TPP. The only ones who would benefit would be Canadian multi-national corporations and their oligarchical owners. They would get the right to sue foreign governments whose actions to protect the health of their people have a negative impact on profits. All the rest of Canada gets out of TPP is the right to be sued by foreign oligarchs for attempting to protect the health of Canadians in ways that lower those oligarchs' profits. Sounds like lose/lose to me.

So go along cuz people support it. Tell me Monty, other than on boards like this, how many major news outlets have had gov reps on who were questioned in depth on dispute resolution or any other of the major sell outs contained in TPP? NONE. That's the Lib argument for this eh, go along nh to get along? People voted for a Middle Class tax break and seemed to support it and how did that actually work out, eh? Lincoln said you can fool most of the people some of the time. Your cynical defence of TPP shows, at least on here, that informed people can see through the smoke and see this Corpirate sellout for what is. All hail Justin, Monty?

So go along cuz people support it. ...

and people support it because they are not organized and there are no grass roots leaders, using local community media or whatever to warn them...so they are victimized by the lies and silence of the CBC and corporate media...

people are just numb...Aldous Huxley was dead right on!

But not to panic...because people will soon be in (economic) panic and will be looking for guidance...I´m sorry but in Canada there is no other way!
The control is just too overwhelming
