A Republican Meltdown Won't Make the Democrats Better

http://blackagendareport.com/republican_meltdown_and_dems

"...The ruling class and all its 'complexes' - military, industrial, national-security, financial - is in a panic at the prospect of losing control of a huge part of its white mass electoral base, which supports Trump despite (or, to some degree, because of) his protectionism and foreign policy pronouncements that are to the left of Democrats Clinton and Sanders.

Trump says he would not have attacked and overthrown Saddam Hussein or Muammar Gaddafi because 'they fought terrorists', and would similarly call off the proxy war against Bashar Assad in Syria. He would violate the 'bipartisan' taboo - cherished as dearly by Obama and Clinton as by McCain and Romney - against anything that impedes the free flow of capital across borders, dragging jobs and tax bases with it.

These titans of capital and their establishment Republican servants cannot coexist with Trumpism, no matter how crudely defined, and are preparing to scuttle the ship, in search of a more dependable electoral yacht. Trump's white legions will do the same if he is cheated of the nomination. Nothing can save the GOP from debacle, resulting in either two right-wing tickets or one vastly weakened presidential campaign that might drag down congressional, state and local Republicans.

The Republican crack-up will immediately destabilize the Rich Man's Party duopoly as it has existed since 1968. What is needed is a complete breakup of the duopoly, not just the Republican half, which would only make the Democratic half more amorphously 'centrist' and useless..."

Credible Account Says Clinton is Behind Violent Protests At Trump Rallies

https://uprootedpalestinians.wordpress.com/2016/03/13/credible-account-s...

"I think everybody in the country has heard about these violent protests [at Trump rallies] which are being blamed on supporters of Bernie Sanders...This is a false flag. These demonstrators are flying under a false banner. They are not Sanders supporters by and large. This is an operation directed by supporters of Hillary Clinton, paid for by George Soros and Move-On, by David Brock at Media Matters for America, also funded by Soros, and also by the reclusive billionaire Jonathan Lewis.

The idea here, very clearly, is to divide the Sanders economic voters from Trump; in other words, those voters who lost their jobs because of NAFTA and all the other globalist international trade deals that have screwed this country, they now realize that these voters are potentially, when Sanders is out of the race, Trump votes, and this is an effort to make Trump toxic, to disqualify him a a racist, bigot.

This is essentially a hoax. You're now going to see these phony demonstrators, these ringers, showing up at other Trump events. That's as much as I'm prepared to say..."

Alma Zamarin, the only current Trump employee to talk to the Guardian, had the most forthright view of this characterisation. The 55-year-old earns $9.75 an hour with no benefits or health insurance, as a part time server in the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. She has worked there for five years, hoping for a staff contract that has yet to materialise, and struggles to pay bills and feed her retired husband and two children. Her union estimates that Trump pays his hotel workers in Las Vegas, on average, $3.33 less per hour than the average wages on the Las Vegas strip.

“He doesn’t care about me,” Zamarin said. “I think he just cares about his business, how much money he’s making.”

So, Shamir thinks that anti-Russian racism is a more powerful force in the USA than anti-Islamic sentiment? Seriously?

How many Russian Orthodox Churches(or any other Russian-identified buildings) have been vandalized in the USA post- 1990(since Shamir thinks that's the relevant time period)? How many Russians have been the victims of physical attacks?

I have gone to protests in numerous cites and often have traveled to assert my right to protest. You I gather have never protested anything except maybe protestors.

Well I've been to protests but I wasn't protesting Wink

I don't have anything bad to say about protestors I just don't really see the point.  I'm certain most are letigimate people such as yourself who want to make a difference and I respect that.

At the same time I think some of the people who go to protests are in the employ of police (or police themselves) and in the employ of other organizations who benefit from protests turning violent.

Lets be honest, peaceful protests don't get much air time. Hell police leave empty cop cars in the paths of rioters on purpose.   Even without examples of professional protestors I feel it's naieve to think only the police and law enforcement have agent provacteurs.

How the Republican establishment really views Trump Republicans:

Even the economic changes of the past few decades do very little to explain the dysfunction and negligence — and the incomprehensible malice — of poor white America. So the gypsum business in Garbutt ain't what it used to be. There is more to life in the 21st century than wallboard and cheap sentimentality about how the Man closed the factories down.

The truth about these dysfunctional, downscale communities is that they deserve to die. Economically, they are negative assets. Morally, they are indefensible. Forget all your cheap theatrical Bruce Springsteen crap. Forget your sanctimony about struggling Rust Belt factory towns and your conspiracy theories about the wily Orientals stealing our jobs. Forget your goddamned gypsum, and, if he has a problem with that, forget Ed Burke, too. The white American underclass is in thrall to a vicious, selfish culture whose main products are misery and used heroin needles. Donald Trump's speeches make them feel good. So does OxyContin.

As I mentioned on EM, those NR pieces reminded me of H.L. Mencken, probably the last conservative American writer who made a habit of viciously attacking poor whites...

Quote:
If all the farmers in the Dust Bowl were shot tomorrow, and all the share-croppers in the South burned at the stake, every decent American would be better off, and not a soul would miss a meal.

Quote:
If all the inhabitants of the Appalachian chain succumbed to some sudden pestilence tomorrow, the effect upon civilization would be but little more than that of the fall of a meteor into the Ross Sea or the jungles of the Amazon.

Quote:
The immigration of thousands of Southern hillbillies and lintheads to Baltimore after 1941, set up by the new war plants, had at least one good effect: it convinced native Baltimoreans that the Southern poor white was a good deal worse than the Southern blackamoor... It was really shocking to Baltimore to discover that whites so thoroughly low-down existed in the country. They were filthier than anything the town had ever seen, and more ornery. The women, in particular, amazed it: they were so slatternly, so dirty and so shiftless that they seemed scarcely human.

Mencken fancied himself an aristocratic aesthete in the European tradition, not a populist at all. Nice to see at least some modern-day conservatives have returned to that posture.

http://tinyurl.com/j3w9yol

(A fundamentalist Christian site with an obvious agenda against Mencken. But, as someone widely read in his works, I can assure you the quoted stuff is representative.)

Difference is, at least Mencken was not a hypocrite.  These are voters the folks at the National Review have been counting on for years to vote against "liberalism."

Yeah, HLM hated the New Deal, partly because he saw it as benefitting the poor whites he so despised. But these NR conservatives have been the ones since the 1960s championing poor whites as supposed allies against New Deal-style policies.

Thought experiment...

If Trump were adhering to the current conservative orthodxies on economics(ie. neo-liberal on trade, against expansion of public health care), and maybe more beholden to the neo-con line on foreign policy, would he and his supporters be attracting the same kind of vitriol from establishment Republicans?

Michael Moriarity

Actually, I had just read the posted excerpt when I wrote that. Looking at the article itself, it seems that he was saying people would cheer the banning of Russians not out of Russophobia, but out of concern for stopping the Russian brain drain.

QUOTE

However, I’ll tell you: if Trump would promise to ban the Russians (instead of Muslims) from migrating to the US, these sensible people would applaud him vigorously instead of calling him a bigot. If he were to send back home all the Russians who migrated since 1990, they would name streets after him. For two reasons:

1) Migration to the US is a serious brain-drain and a problem for Russia – and for all other nations as well. Well-educated specialists, doctors and engineers, technicians and accountants leave their home countries and bring their precious human capital to the US.

EBD QUOTE

I guess Shmair is referring specifically to Russians who call Trump a bigot, 'cuz I can say with some assuarance that, outside of Russia, there aren't many people calling Trump a bigot who also care one way or another about the Russian brain-drain.

And I really question whether the ethnic-cleansing of anyone from the USA would be greeted with applause in their mother country.

Haven't found the part where he praises Duke, but did see Duke's salutations in the comments section.

Charlie Pierce has also posted some insightful comments on Williamson's article in the National Review. His conclusion:

Charles Pierce wrote:

This was always coming. The contempt dripping from Williamson's writing, and from that pathetic appeal from alleged conservative "leaders" never was far from the minds of the Republican elites. They so easily distracted the "Reagan Democrats" with shiny-object social issues while shoving most of the nation's wealth upwards that they almost can be forgiven for thinking that the tactic would work forever. I mean, it worked for George W. Bush, for god's sake.

Now, I love good schadenfreude as much as the next guy. Watching the Republican Party turn itself into the Donner Party has been wonderful entertainment. But it's depressing to think that people in legitimate economic peril, and people in areas that have been stripped bare while being fed fairy tales about the new globalized economy, have traded one lethal form of political anesthetic for an even more deadly one. What's most depressing about it is how completely predictable that transformation actually was.

http://gawker.com/pbs-news-story-on-first-time-trump-voters-prominently-...

Last night, PBS NewsHour ran a story on the Tilly family of Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Tillys do not have a history of being active in politics, but various members of the family—both old and young—are being motivated to vote or work for a campaign for the first time by Donald Trump.

If you can put aside the fact that the Tillys are rallying behind Trump, this is a small but almost heartwarming story of a family choosing to engage with democracy. That’s also if you can put aside the fact that Grace, one of the central characters in the story, has large white power tattoos on each of her hands.

When it comes to Trump, there are those on the Left that only hear what they want to hear:

http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/03/17/stop-the-violence-but-only-at-tru...

In his column, Witcover said that, despite Trump, he believed the “GOP is sobering up.” Really, that’s good news. Why does the cerebral Witcover think that? Because, he wrote, three of the GOP candidates: Sens. Ted Cruz and Mario Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, have developed a strategy on “fighting the Islamic State.”

Well, what exactly is that brainstorm? Why, it’s putting “American boots on the ground” in Syria, “20,000 to 30,000,” as suggested by American military leaders! Hey, “Sun” editorial writer, that sounds like a hell of lot violence to me, much more than that punching and kicking will create at any future Trump rallies.

Except...

Donald Trump's assertion that the United States has "no choice" but to send 20,000 to 30,000 combat troops to fight ISIS in the Middle East raises a slew of complicated questions, military analysts said Friday.

It also represents an about-face.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump may have caused a rift in his relationship with Vladimir Putin after featuring the Russian president in a campaign video.

“I saw this clip. I do not know for sure if Vladimir Putin saw it. [But] our attitude is negative,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.

“It’s an open secret for us that demonizing Russia and whatever is linked to Russia is unfortunately a mandatory hallmark of America’s election campaign,” he added. “We always sincerely regret this and wish the [U.S.] electoral process was conducted without such references to our country.”
