Petition to reverse Parliament's condemnation of everyone who promotes BDS

I'm kind of amazed that Elizabeth May sponsored this, but pleased nonetheless. Given the format of the petition, I can't imagine it will get many signatures, unless it's actively promoted through social media etc. It's also a little bit confused, because it's addressed to the "Government of Canada", even though technically it was Parliament (i.e. almost all the Libs + all the Cons) that adopted this fascist motion. But it's a good initiative anyway:

Quote:

Petition to the Government of Canada Whereas:

  • We believe that all positions should respect international law;
  • We believe that all parties in a conflict must be held to the same standard;
  • We believe that violence is not a solution; and
  • We wish to empower Canadians of all backgrounds to promote justice, development and peace in the Middle East, and at home in Canada.

We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada,, call upon the Government of Canada to: 1. reconsider and reverse its stance on the boycott of Israeli goods and services (BDS) i,e.: "condemn any and all attempts by Canadian organizations, groups or individuals to promote the BDS movement, both here at home and abroad" ; 2. advocate for a just and peaceful settlement that recognizes the legitimate rights and historical claims of the Palestinian people, as recognized by numerous United Nation Resolutions.

ETA: It seems Elizabeth May was [url=http://www.parl.gc.ca/HouseChamberBusiness/ChamberVoteDetail.aspx?Langua... during the vote[/url] on this motion - I'm assuming she would have voted "no", as did all the NDP and Bloc and a few Libs, but who knows. Also - does her sponsoring of this petition actually indicate that she supports it?

I have already signed an online petition, and shared it on FB, but I will certainly sign this one as well.

Quote:

WHEREAS the House of Commons passed a motion calling the government “to condemn any and all attempts by Canadian organizations, groups or individuals to promote the BDS [Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions] movement, both here at home and abroad,”

WHEREAS each one of us has sought to promote the BDS movement,

THEREFORE, we the undersigned petition the Canadian government to be individually condemned for, as appropriate, our thoughts, words, and actions, promoting BDS:

Thanks krop - yup, I signed the "Condemn Me" one when it came out, though it seems to have stalled once it reach about 3,000 signatures.

Hate to say this, but I'm getting a bit paranoid about the one I posted above... Don't mind me.

Too milquetoast. I'd like to see a Petition simply condemning the Canadian Parliament's support of ethnic cleansing by the brutal Israeli apartheid regime. Include a few spelling mistakes - maybe something about re-education - and a well-deserved Frantic "boot to the head".

Make that two boots to the head. Matching shoe prints.
