Leaders? We don't need no stinkin' leaders!

The concept behind the movement is a “convergence of struggles” with no one leader.

Nuit debout protesters occupy French cities in revolutionary call for change (theguardian.com)

While the MainStream media seems obsessed with leaders and races for one person to become leader, I wonder:  Do we really need a leader?  I vote for you, I pass the stick to you and invite you to speak up, speak out, speak wherever, maybe even in this form topic.  What does "leadership" or "taking the lead" mean to you?  Is leadership meaningful?

NDPP

The purpose of leadership, at least in the Canadian political context, is almost always to ensure there is someone capable of brokering and leading the necessary sellout of what people actually want, and to make sure elite priorities are complied with first and foremost.

More on the Nuit Debout protesters can be found in my latest post in the 'France' thread.

Thanks NDPP.  I missed that link to debout in your posting in the France thread.

I certainly read a lot of recent discussion about leaders and leadership in the babble political threads.  I thought debout was a good example of a movement with no one leader.  I think of grassroots activism I've been involved with and we don't have a 'leader' for these groups.  To me, the 'leadership debate' seems to waste a lot of time and energy that could be put to better use.  I think that there are more pressing issues.

Mmphosis, you might not have noticed this thread which is already underway:

I realize your conversation is broader than just the NDP, but maybe there's a way we could have this conversation in one thread?

I guarantee you he didn't -- check the dates.

Now, I'm getting caught up on some threads I haven't read.  There is a healthy discussion both political and different ideas about leadership in the The NDP should consider a collective leadership thread.
