Pentagon Unveils Extra Funds To Counter Russia (and vid)

The subject of this thread is as timely as ever. NATO member and jihadist sponsor, Turkey, along with their ally Saudi Arabia (what's that you say? Not a Candian ally? OK, but why sell them 10 billion in arms then?) , Qatar, and of course their sponsors/overlords in Washington are busy trying to start World War III in Syria by putting a NATO member state in direct conflict with the Russian AF defending Syria from the jihadists and their Western sponsors.

Still think it's exaggeration? I think not. What is abundantly clear is that the US hegemon is pushing their client states towards war. The overthrow of the duly elected Syrian regime trumps the defeat of terrorism, common sense,  or anything else for that matter.

One expects the Americans to issue orders to the Banderist regime in Kiev to step up their attacks on civilians and the resistance in Eastern Ukraine, in an effort to provoke another conflict with the Russian Federation [in addition to the Syrian one] at the same time.

Operation Barbarosa 2: because the Nazis didn't succeed so NATO will try again.

Quote:
On Friday, February 26, just a day before the limited ceasefire in Syria was to take effect, the Atlantic Council, the preeminent NATO think tank, issued a report on the state of readiness of the NATO alliance to fight and win a war with Russia. The focus of the report is on the Baltic states.

Yes, when there is an effective apartheid-style regime in at least one of the Baltic states, any neighbour would be concerned, but the feverish apoplectic fantasies of a "Russian invasion" are just that - fantasies.

Quote:
...it is my argument that the NATO alliance will stage a series of actions in the Baltic states using hybrid warfare methods, or will simply manufacture images that will be used to create a new myth to justify war, the myth that Russia is trying to seize the Baltic region.

The report is designed essentially to provide the European governments concerned, that is, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Norway, with propaganda they can feed to the people through the media channels, most of which they control, to justify increased military spending and increased military forces in order to face a “threat” from Russia.

I've read elsewhere that at no time since the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 has there been such a massive build-up of troops on the borders of Russia. It really looks like a Barbarossa 2 is being planned. By the NATO regimes, like Canada. Because freedom.

Quote:

Throughout the report the imagined enemy is Russia. Each segment written by an expert in military analysis from each of the countries concerned in the report contains the standard propaganda about Russia and that Europe is vulnerable and about to fall to the Russian hordes.

The level of intelligence they expect the public to have must be very low if they really think such a fantastic document could be taken seriously as a description of reality or that their intentions could be understood as anything less than criminal. Any intelligent person handed such a document would automatically throw it in the garbage for the trash it is but then he would immediately retrieve it to take a second look, because they are telling us what they are going to do, what they preparing for. I wrote in my last essay that the increased build-up of NATO forces, in eastern Europe especially, has some similarity to the Nazi build-up for the invasion of Russia in 1941 Operation Barbarossa, is in fact a Barbarossa 2.

John Pilger: A World War Has Begun - Break the Silence

John Pilger wrote:
How many people are aware that a world war has begun? At present, it is a war of propaganda, of lies and distraction, but this can change instantaneously with the first mistaken order, the first missile....

The Obama administration has built more nuclear weapons, more nuclear warheads, more nuclear delivery systems, more nuclear factories.  Nuclear warhead spending alone rose higher under Obama than under any American president. The cost over thirty years is more than $1 trillion....

In the last eighteen months, the greatest build-up of military forces since World War Two — led by the United States — is taking place along Russia’s western frontier.  Not since Hitler invaded the Soviet Union have foreign troops presented such a demonstrable threat to Russia.

Ukraine – once part of the Soviet Union –  has become a CIA theme park. Having orchestrated a coup in Kiev, Washington effectively controls a regime that is next door and hostile to Russia: a regime rotten with Nazis, literally. Prominent parliamentary figures in Ukraine are the political descendants of the notorious OUN and UPA fascists. They openly praise Hitler and call for the persecution and expulsion of the Russian speaking minority.

In Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia — next door to Russia – the US military is deploying combat troops, tanks, heavy weapons. This extreme provocation of the world’s second nuclear power is met with silence in the West.

What makes the prospect of nuclear war even more dangerous is a parallel campaign against China.

I posted on another thread (Russia) that the NATO-Russia Council has met for the first time in some years. It was at the request of the NATO representatives. The unrelenting Russophobia (the US regime now identifies Russia, for example, as the greatest "existential" threat to the US) notwithstanding, the request for this meeting is a confession of failure. It is a confession that global problems cannot be solved without the Russians, that urinating and shitting in the face of Russia is useless, and that despite the quivering love for thermonuclear war among the neo-cons and their ilk, a thin veneer of realism is creeping into the consciousness of these political cannibals. Or maybe they're outnumbered for the moment.

Christ. The Russians must have the sublime patience of saints. It's hard not to admire that. Anyway, no empire, it seems, will go gently into that good night. I hope I live to see that day when the Empire gets its teeth knocked out and is only able to gum its enemies - and many victims - uselessly. And the world goes, "whatever" and moves on to solving the many, many problems that we have. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one...

Obama Requests Military Support for Possible War Against Russia

Quote:
According to an April 23rd article carried by Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten (German Economic News), U.S. President Barack Obama is “demanding the active deployment of the Bundeswehr [Germany’s armed forces, including their Army, Navy, and Air Force] to NATO’s eastern borders” at Poland and the Baltic republics, to join the quadrupling of America’s forces there, on and near the borders of Russia....

Furthermore, DWN reports that on April 25th, the U.S. President will hold a summit meeting in Hannover, Germany with the leaders of Germany (Angela Merkel), Italy (Matteo Renzi), France (Francois Hollande), and Britain (David Cameron). The presumed objective of this meeting is to agree to establish in the NATO countries bordering on Russia a military force of these five countries, a force threatening Russia with an invasion, if or when NATO subsequently decides that the ‘threat from Russia’ be ‘responded to’ militarily.

The predatory imperial narrative is simply this: it is not the barbarous NATO regimes, ever expanding towards Russia's borders, endless saber-rattling, placement of ABM weapons on the Russian border, sanctions and economic warfare, etc., etc., etc.,  that is to blame for NATO's aggressive preparations for war. No, it is the unwillingness by those dastardly Russians not to allow the ethnic cleansing of all Russian-speaking parts of Ukraine that is to blame. If only the foolish Russians would allow the "peaceful" NATO regimes to stockpile their endless supply of nuclear weapons right on Russian's borders, then everything would be fine.

But JFK did not think things were "fine" when "Nikita Khrushchev’s plan to base nuclear missiles in Cuba", right next to the USA,  became known. We are all supposed to have fallen off a turnip truck and, apparently, cannot see the similarity here ...

"The West's Relations with Russia: How bad is bad?"

ikosmos ikosmos's picture

[The latest Crosstalk covers the following better than my thumbnail summary. But not everyone has time for a 30 min show.]

The duplicitousness of US conduct in relation to Russia (and, pretty well as much, in relation to China as well) is extreme. Whether it is the South China Sea (notice the word "China" in the name of the body of water), or the waters off Kaliningrad, it's all sabre-rattling, overblown claims of innocence in international waters, and so on. Just imagine if the Russian Navy started steaming up and down the US coast "practicing" attacks on the US. The double standards are breath-taking.

I see that some of the  Communist parliamentarians in the Russian Duma have even started suggesting that Russia restore the nuclear missiles in Cuba to give the US a little of their own medicine. Not that Putin will do that... but it does give one an idea of the brazen and bellicose conduct of the US regime.

The distress of US spokespersons over Russian flybys in the Baltic is touching. But it's all for show and ratcheting up the tension. Meanwhile, French parliamentarians are now openly saying that it's time for the end of the US overlord's sanctions regime against Russia.

Truly, it's an Empire in decline, unwilling to live and let live, determined to impose its Pax Americana until it gets its head kicked in.

The strategic objectives of the United States have thus changed. As from now, their objective is to contain the economic and political development of China and Russia by forcing them to engage in commerce exclusively by maritime routes which are controlled by their aircraft-carriers.

As soon as he arrived in power in 2012, President Xi Jinping announced his country’s intention to free itself from these constraints and to build two new continental commercial routes to the European Union. The first route would build on the antique traces of the Silk Road, the second would pass via Russia and on to Germany. Immediately, two conflicts appeared – first of all, the war in Syria was no longer directed at régime change, but at creating chaos, while the same chaos broke out, for no better reason, in Ukraine. Then, Belarus contacted Turkey and the United States, expanding the Northern barricade which splits Europe in two. Thus, two endless conflicts block both routes.

The good news is that no-one can negotiate victory in Ukraine against defeat in Syria, since both wars have the same objective. The bad news is that the chaos will continue on both fronts as long as China and Russia have been unable to build another route.

Consequently, there is nothing to be gained by negotiation with people who are being paid to maintain the conflict. It would be better to think pragmatically and accept that these are simply the means for Washington to cut the Silk Roads. Only then will it be possible to untangle the numerous competing interests and stabilise all the inhabited areas.

The Red Line Crossed, In the Cross-Hairs, At Trigger Point -- Waiting For an October Surprise   -   by John Helmer

"First there was the red-line announcement. On Friday in Athens there was the cross-hairs statement. By the month of October, the month before the US presidential election, there will be the trigger point.

The US and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies are going to war with Russia, accelerating the inevitability that Russia will strike in self-defence.

This is what the first and second statements by President Vladimir Putin warn. There will be no statement of warning when the trigger-point arrives.

It has taken two years of escalating warfare between Washington and Moscow before the cross-hairs warning. What then is the timing between now and trigger-point? Where will the trigger be pointed, and how will it be pulled?

The likely timing, according to Russian assessments, is the month of October. The history of the 'October Surprise' by desperate US presidential runners to pull off a last-minute election victory is well known..."

5 Reasons Washington Has Already Decided to Go to War with Russia

1. Abysmal failure in provocations: in South Ossetia (2008), in Ukraine (2014), and in Syria (201x).

Quote:
Result: We should expect Washington to up the ante – direct confrontation with Russia via its NATO minions.

2. Sanctions have failed.

Quote:
Result: We should expect more faux media-inspired circuses like the “Panama Papers” attempting to discredit Russian businesses and finances.

3. Humiliating the Empire never goes without punishment. NATO jackboots ever closer to Russian borders. ABM Treaty violations develop apace as the US regime orders the deployment of first strike weapons in Romania and Poland.

Quote:
Result: We should expect the west to invent a crisis in one of the Baltic States....never underestimate Washington’s fear mongering!

4.The "obstinate" Russians refuse to be isolated. Expulsion from the G8? A blessing in disguise.

Quote:
Result: Washington will continue its “the worse the better” approach in Syria and the Middle East and blame Russia.

5. The Russian President is more popular THANKS to the hostile Western MSM campaigns against him.

With ever greater recklessness, the US and European ruling elites are sowing the seeds of war across the width and breadth of the Eurasian landmass..."

The Russians Have Already Shot Down Numerous US Drones Violating Crimean Airspace (Video)

Quote:
The military violation of the territory, including the airspace, of a sovereign state is ordinarily taken to be a casus belli - an act of war.

But to be fair to the Americans, they may justify their belligerent behavior, flagrantly refusing to respect Russia’s sovereignty, on the basis that they do not recognize Crimea to be a part of Russia. Therefore, (etc.) ...

Nevertheless the Russians have made it clear that they consider Crimea to be a sovereign part of Russia. The Russians have made diplomatic protests over what they see as violation of their territory. The Americans have ignored them. The Russians have therefore shot down - and in once case commandeered and landed - these aircraft making incursions into their sovereign territory.

An act of war has been committed by America against Russia; and if you accept the American position, an act of war has been committed by Russia against both the Ukraine and the United States. Shots have been fired, and the Americans have lost military materiel.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

NATO Says It Might Now Have Grounds to Attack Russia

Quote:
On Tuesday, June 14th, NATO announced that if a NATO member country becomes the victim of a cyber attack by persons in a non-NATO country such as Russia or China, then NATO’s Article V “collective defense” provision requires each NATO member country to join that NATO member country if it decides to strike back against the attacking country....  only now is NATO declaring cyber war itself to be included as real “war” under the NATO Treaty’s “collective defense” provision.

NATO is now alleging that because Russian hackers had copied the emails on Hillary Clinton’s home computer, this action of someone in Russia taking advantage of her having privatized her U.S. State Department communications to her unsecured home computer and of such a Russian’s then snooping into the U.S. State Department business that was stored on it, might constitute a Russian attack against the United States of America, and would, if the U.S. President declares it to be a Russian invasion of the U.S., trigger NATO’s mutual-defense clause and so require all NATO nations to join with the U.S. government in going to war against Russia, if the U.S. government so decides.

What's coming up for NATO?

"At the upcoming July 8th-9th NATO Summit meeting, which will be happening in the context of NATO’s biggest-ever military exercises on and near the borders of Russia, called “Atlantic Resolve”, prospective NATO plans to invade Russia might be discussed in order to arrive at a consensus plan for the entire alliance. However, even if that happens, it wouldn’t be made public, because war-plans never are."
