Greens Draw Outrage, 'Anti-Israel' Accusations Over Proposal To Add BDS To Party Policies

http://www.canada.com/news/national/green+party+draws+outrage+98+98anti+...

"Members of the Green Party are deciding whether to add Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel to a list of official party policies. Party members are also voting on a resolution that would insist on revoking charitable status from the Jewish National Fund of Canada.

The Green Party's only MP and leader, Elizabeth May, says she is against both resolutions. May met with Israeli Ambassador Rafael Barak Friday, she said, and explained to him that the Green Party was 'immoveable' in its support for Israel's right to exist..."

Shame on you Elizabeth May! Resign NOW!

All in favour of these resolutions...?

Thanks for reminding us of these resolutions...some friends are considering support for the Greens for their courage to take on the zionist establishment in Canada...

whatever the vote...hopefully a growing movement within the Greens will reject May, maybe an opening for a rejuvenation of the Party?

Indeed.  Perhaps by ditching May they can return to their pre-May heyday.

Look around and see what´s going on in the real world...people are fleeing traditional status quo parties......there will be new formations after new formations.....

the Greens had their heyday, yes! When they believed in truth in politics, producing all kinds of radical movements within the Party which are just as much relevant today!
They were all snuffed by the move to opportunism and corruption......No they gained little public support...but the MSM no longer holds that power over the dumbed down!

And people now even in Canada are more desperate...and with the total complicity of the right wing NDP in the system of imperialism and globalization...as Canada marches off to war, a total farce?

There is opening for a Party dedicated to truth.......

In "the real world" Canada held a general election about 8 months ago.  Do you feel that people fled the traditional parties, or that new formations emerged?

Really, though?

Any examples of Green Party epiphanies that you can share?

It is odd, because BDS does not challenge "Israel's right to exist". One can question whether any given nation-state has the "right to exist". The people in israel, and in Palestine, certainly do, and of course it goes without saying that one must oppose genocidal policies against any people. BDS is mostly a matter of challenging the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories, though I suppose there are also elements of equal rights for Palestinian Israeli citizens.

Yves Engler has a blogpost on this very topic: http://rabble.ca/blogs/bloggers/yves-engler/2016/06/greens-call-to-revok...

perhap´s my favourite...at the 1994 (?) Green Federation of the Americas gathering, where greens from the USA Greens, Canada and the Mexicans hammered out a response to 1994 NAFTA, offering a vision of an antiglobalization future with a blueprint of transitional strategies worked out in detail over a 4 day session......

a document later to be trashed as flakey by the coup takeovers of the new corrupt Green Party....

Can someone explain why all politicians fall to their knees to kiss Israel's ass? Seriously, what's the deal?

In the NDP I blame Jack Layton for it. Prior to him I marched in rallies in support of Palestinian rights and an end to the occupation with MP's like Libby and Svend and then Bill and NDP riding associations proudly proclaiming who they were.  I still don't understand why I can only pinpoint when.

A huge debate is unfolding among millions of Bernie’s backers, providing an enormous opportunity for the left to raise the need for a political alternative to the Democratic Party. That’s why Movement4Bernie and Socialist Alternative are organizing a series of forums in dozens of cities across the country titled “Beyond Bernie: We Need a Party for the 99%.” These forums will both mobilize for the largest possible protests at the Democratic National Convention and create space for a broad-based debate on the way forward for the political revolution. My message at the events will be clear: If Bernie refuses to break from the Democratic Party, our movement should back Jill Stein as the strongest left alternative in the presidential election and use 2016 to prepare the ground for building a new movement-based political alternative....

Of course.  It couldn't have actually been flaky.

A coup is the only reasonable explanation.

Finally, an explanation!

I'd been wondering why it is that the world over, new and emerging fringe parties have been achieving such phenomenal electoral victories.

The United States Treasury may as well start printing up new "One Bitcoin" bills with Jill Stein's picture on them.

Percentage of popular vote 2004 election 4.3 (Jim Harris)

Percentage of popular vote 2006 electin 4.5 (Jim Harris)

Percentage of popular vote 2008 election 6.8 (Elizabeth May)

Percentage of popular vote 2011 election 3.91 (Elizabeth May)

Percentage of popular vote 2015 election 3.45 (Elizabeth May)

To me that doesn't look much like a surge of popular support for either the Greens, or Elizabeth May. In addition, in the 2008 election the Liberals lost a lot of support, and it's within the bounds of possibility that at least some of those votes went to the Green Party, especially given the agreement between Stephane Dion and Elizabeth May not to run candidates in each others riding.

I don't see the loss of Elizabeth May as a huge loss for the Greens.

Elizabeth May Losing Control Over Her Party Over BDS

http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/matt-gurney-elizabeth-may-is-l...

"...If her party adopts positions she opposes on a position as fundamental as Israel, May could be forgiven for taking her good intentions and marching across the aisle to join another party. She's always seemed quite fond of the Liberals after all."

Canadian politicians'  alarming allegiance to this odious foreign power,  Zionist Apartheid Israel, will continue to infect and corrupt the Canadian body politic until we do the necessary surgery to remove the power and influence of the source of the problem.

Versions of both resolutions should be adopted by all parties who must stop rendering their aid and support to this vicious international criminal enterprise of which JNF  is a part as well as Netanyahu and his US-backed gangster government.

What's funny about that National Post editorial is that May was never that fond of the Liberals. If I had to peg her, it would be as an old-tiime Tory. However, one of the things that the editorial shows is that the media love of May is was, and is, mostly as a splitter of the leftie vote. If her party takes any real positions, they'll drop her like a hot potato.

Meanwhile, I am reading Peter Ustinov's autobiography ("Dear Me"), and in it he recounts a statement made by a friend of his. I'll quote from his book.

He asks himself:

Quote:
What is your connection with Israel then?

My connection is with Palestine. This is not a provocation, merely an historical accuracy. All my family had left by 1917, with the exception of my Aunt Tabitha who had married a Palestinian Arab…and who lived in Jerusalem until forced to flee at the time of the creation of the state of Israel. Israeli friends have protested that no one was forced to flee…but it is difficult to see how a country described as a ‘National Home’, a theocracy as well as a democracy, can extend full equality to all its citizens…

In any case, with the bullets of hot-headed patriots flying around, it was not the moment to stop and argue…

In the words of an enlightened Jewish friend, a noted sociologist and humanitarian with whom I have been honoured to serve on many committees, “The Palestinians are the last victims of Hitler.”

The NDP Rejects BDS But What About The Greens?

http://www.cjnews.com/perspectives/the-ndp-rejects-bds-but-what-about-th...

"When the Ontario legislature voted last December on a motion rejecting the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel, the results were near unanimous, with 49 votes in favour and only five votes in dissent, all cast by members of the provincial New Democratic Party.

But while the vote, marking Ontario as the first province to rebuff BDS, was seen as a major win for the Jewish community, questions remained about where the Ontario NDP stood on the matter. Last week we got a more definitive answer when the provincial New Democrats became the latest Canadian political party to take a stand against BDS..."
