This is the night Hillary Clinton has been waiting for her entire life. This is the night where she has her latest and best chance to make her case to undecided voters, clarify her vision for America, and cut into her massively high unfavorable ratings. Finally, the attention at the Democratic convention and in the news media will be on her, her message, and not just endorsements and speeches from powerful allies like Mike Bloomberg and President Barack Obama.
Good luck with that.
We already know who's going to dominate the headlines Friday morning in the end. And he happens to be Clinton's opponent. Let's justify that conclusion by reviewing the extremely recent evidence:
Donald Trump stole the headlines away from the Democrats and their convention Wednesday by stirring up controversies over Clinton's emails and the Russians. Thursday morning, even after four barn burner speeches by Mike Bloomberg, Joe Biden, Tim Kaine, and finally President Barack Obama, the most-talked about story in the news and social media is still Donald Trump's calls for the Russians to hand over the former Secretary of State's deleted emails. Maintaining the lion's share of media attention even in the wake of a stirring speech by the President of the United States is no easy task. But Trump, and his apparently still clueless and unintentional allies in the media, pulled it off.
Now, the "challenge" is to do the same to a mere Democratic presidential nominee with high unfavorable ratings, who doesn't possess the same speaking skills as President Obama, Vice President Biden, or even her husband. Even if only the established news media still controlled the main political narrative in this country, beating back Clinton's potential attention-grabbing chances wouldn't be impossible for Trump. But with social media's powerful influence thrown into the mix, he won't have to try very hard at all.
He proved he's the master of the media cycle many times before, but Wednesday's coup ended all arguments on that score. Even if the talk about the Russian email hacking story dies down by Friday, Trump will have a few rallies and his Twitter account at the ready to stir something else up if he wants. And we know the news media will be eager to cover it.
But the real question is whether all this media attention is good for Trump's election chances. Many news and political veterans are still expecting his seemingly reckless comments to bring him down. And they are not alone. Clearly, the top strategists in the Clinton campaign are okay with Trump stealing the attention during this campaign because they too are sure it will backfire on him any day now.
But they're wrong. Not because they don't understand Trump, but because they don't understand his supporters. This specific point is essential. Because the inability to understand Trump supporters will not only cost Clinton and the Democrats the White House, it could cost the established news media whatever influence it still has over public opinion.

- [b]a neo-con war hawk, pure and simple.[/b] She has demonstrated this approach, both in office (e.g., as Secretary of State) and out, over many years. - "In order for the US to ensure that the 21st century will be "the US century"", Hilary Clinton understands the importance of US "leadership" in the world. (See CNAS policy papers)
- the Clinton supported policy to "defeat ISIS" revolves around carrying out war against the legitimate government of Syria. This will include a "no bombing zone", replacing the "no fly zone" that HRC so enthusiastically supported. A "no fly zone" is a state of war, pure and simple. This is for a long term plan to establish a region controlled by US-sponsored "moderates", etc., who still, however, behead children... This is an example of risk-taking, characteristic of HRC, putting the risk of thermonuclear war against Syria's key ally, Russia, for example, on the table.
- the recent letter, therefore, of 50-or-so State Department "diplomats" calling for the bombing of Syria was not so much as a call for changes in the Obama policy as much as a job application for a future HR Clinton regime ...
- "If Clinton is elected, it is very likely that there will be an escalation of US action in Syria" ... against the legitimate government there.
- will differentiate her FP from that of Barak Obama; a tougher approach, more willing to extend US power in the world, and willing to take risks to achieve such goals.
- one of the most "power-oriented" candidates in US history [as in military power].
- the same super-aggression towards Syria is also true about Iran. HRC is characterized by a kind of visceral, virulent hatred of all things Iranian.
- the same is true of HRC's approach to Russia. In general, a hyper-aggressive foreign policy is the future under a HRC Presidency ... - we now have the odd situation in which the Democrats' candidate is far to the right of the Republicans' candidate wrt foreign policy. This is a significant development. The Democrats are no longer unified; rather, controlled by Clinton and her group, which will cease to have major significance as a party in the future.

To be fair, I can't blame them. Nobody here would blame Saudis for liking Sharia. The worst criticism of Saudis who support Sharia would be "they're misguided," yet as the article goes on to suggest, Republicans who like American culture are all xenophobes and racists.
Even as a "person of colour" (I hate that phrase), I'd much rather live in the US than the middle east, even if the middle east wasn't currently getting destroyed and had an equal standard of living for my demographic.
When Republicans look at what is going on in Sweden, Germany, France, and even the U.K., and then do a simple examination of birth rates and immigration rates of different groups, it is no wonder they are afraid for the future of American culture.
And, from what I've seen on a variety of message boards which lean different ways, absolutely nobody is making a case for why their fears are unfounded. They just get told to stop being racist.

I have one fear with the continual media stories and reactions about how bad Trump is. We need to start to hear what Hilary will do that is more than I am not Trump and don't vote for Trump. This election in its early stages reminds me of the 2010 Toronto mayoral election where George Smitherman was supposed to beat Rob Ford. The Smitherman campaign did an amazing job at telling everyone to not vote for Ford. What they forgot to do was tell everyone why to vote Smitherman.
While the system is different due to party registratoins there remains the need for the Clinton Campaign to shift from Trump bad and vote for me because I am not Trump to a campaign based on why people should vote for Clinton. If that doesn's happen then we could have an issue.
