The universe is unfolding as it should

Gwynne Dyer is an intelligent and well informed commentator, and his writings, including this one, are usually worth reading. However, I see no reason whatever for this to need a thread of its own, and I ask the moderators to close it.

The United States are engaged in "interventions" in several countries throughout the world - and always eyeing more. The middle east is a mess (even the article agrees). Europe is fraying at the seams. Terrorism is on a sharp rise. As America wanes, the BRICS alliance is rising in influence, military strength, and prestige. The world is a powder keg waiting to go off. Iran continues to move closer to achieving nuclear weapons, not that such are necessary for a global conflict to erupt. In America, true unemployment continues to rise and there is ample evidence that the poor in America are increasingly desperate (see the conditions of the inner cities). The "globalist economy" is not working for the workers. And U.S.-Russia tensions are the highest they've been since 1991 - under the watch of Obama and Clinton.

I never said Trump was a pacifist. I said he was not the most likely candidate to cause a global war. That's Clinton.

Life is good? Is life good in Milwaukee? Is life good in Detroit? Cleveland? There are more poor people in the United States than there has ever been, and as more and more wealth goes to the 1% the lot of the everyday man becomes worse and worse. Even young adults from middle class families can hardly afford a house and kids these days. "The American Dream" is almost dead.

Quality of life is in decline for the 99%, and this is most noticable first in the poorest communities. The riots we are seeing from BLM are not reflective of a racist society. I'm not saying American society isn't racist - but I would say it's less racist than it was 20 or 30 years ago. Yet now we have more riots than 20 or 30 years ago. Because the riots aren't caused by racism; they're caused by a poor, young population with no opportunities, no prospects, no jobs, no future, and nothing to lose, that has reached critical mass. It's not their fault they have no prospects. I'm not blaming them, I'm just saying that if they had jobs, had prospects, had families and futures to look forward to, they wouldn't be rioting every time a felon dies in a firefight with a SWAT team.

So, again I ask, where does the article make the case that we're not back to 1936? The parallels are there and there are dozens of conceivable ways global war could start in the next three years. Most of them involve America sticking it's nose where it doesn't belong, and, sorry to say it, Hillary Clinton's past actions and comments suggest she is far more likely to continue doing this than "we need to stop being the world's police and look after America first" Trump.

I didn't read the article yet but I agree with every word you just said. POCs would not be better off having more white people living in poverty with them. Racism is absolutely an issue but the larger issue is poverty. By naming racism as the cause of poverty neoliberalism is left off the hook.
