The situation is not as dire as the headline in the Telegraph (or the Guardian for that matter) would suggest. The socialist party (SPD) got 30% of the vote, the AdD got 21% and the CDU came third with 19%. Smaller leftist parties also did poorly, with all votes going to the AfD. But the grand coalition of the SPD and the CDU will likely continue.
