In New York City on Monday, over 100 people marched to protest the recent police killing of African-American mother Korryn Gaines in Maryland. On August 1, Baltimore County police killed the 23-year-old mother after what they say was an armed standoff. Police were at Gaines’s apartment to execute an arrest warrant related to a traffic violation. They initially said they entered Korryn Gaines’s apartment with a key obtained from her landlord. But court documents say police kicked down the door. Once the police entered the apartment, Korryn Gaines was live-streaming the standoff via Facebook before her account was shut down. Police say they killed Gaines after she pointed a shotgun at them. Police also say they shot her 5-year-old son, Kodi Gaines, who suffered an injury to his cheek but survived.

The USA "mistakenly" bombed the Syrian Arab Army, killing 60 and injuring 100, and then stopped bombing once the Daesh terrorists got a good foothold.

I have no idea whether that image of the gun was an accurate image. But for years now, "toy" guns (air guns, "airsoft" guns, and so on) have been required to feature an orange muzzle, specifically so that they cannot be mistaken for the real thing.
Years ago, I owned a CO2 pellet pistol that had no such safeguard. If I'd pulled it on a police officer then that officer would have had to really, really know their stuff and notice the small cartridge screw at the bottom of the grip. Other than that, from a few feet away it was a .38.
And I'm certainly not applauding this incident. But I'm curious how that (toy) weapon was unmarked.

According to a 911 transcript obtained by the Columbus Dispatch newspaper, several young men approached a man in the street Wednesday — one with a gun — and demanded money. The victim handed over $10.
Officers investigating the report Wednesday spotted three males east of downtown Columbus who matched the description of the suspects, authorities said. Two of them ran away when officers tried to speak with them.
The police chased the pair into a nearby alley and tried to take them into custody. That's when Tyre pulled out a gun, and an officer fired his weapon, hitting the boy repeatedly, police said.
Tyre died at a children's hospital.
Police reviewing evidence from the scene determined the boy's firearm was actually a BB gun with an attached laser sight.
If this is the same 3 people, they had used the bb gun to rob someone of 10$. The attached laser sight suggests the gun had been deliberately modified to look real.

State-administered violence is all that lies between the corporate state and widespread unrest. The power elites know it.
So it all makes sense. Without the violence of the United States of Atrocity, there would be an uprising.
The corporate state needs to create the illusion that the courts and the police are impartial and just. Once this illusion is cemented into the public consciousness, victims can be blamed for their oppression. Institutionalized murder becomes acceptable. Police violence becomes part of the cost of keeping us safe. The oppressed have no legitimacy or voice.... Police have killed over 700 people this year. The illusions of reform are used to alter public consciousness rather than the machinery of corporate power. These illusions are created to reassure us that those that are arrested, beaten, killed or sent away to prison for decades deserve their fate. Yes, the state may admit, there is an abuse committed here or an injustice committed there, but the system itself, the state insists, is fundamentally fair and just. This is a lie the elites go to tremendous lengths to disseminate.
The corporate state is counting on counterviolence against police, which is inevitable, and further acts of domestic terrorism, which also are inevitable. Acts of violence directed against the state are used by the organs of state propaganda, including the corporate press, to foster a culture of fear, to deify the police and to demonize the oppressed in our inner cities and in the Middle East. All criticism of excessive state violence, once these illusions dominate the society, will be condemned as disloyal and unpatriotic. The corporate state, until it is destroyed, will do what it is designed to do—kill with impunity.

I think you may have missed that he is deliberately not talking about the U.S., but about a global corporate state which has control over governments throughout the world:

These elements make possible the common good, or at least the perception of the common good.
Global capitalism, however, is not concerned with the cohesion of the nation-state. The relentless quest for profit trumps internal stability. Everything and everyone is pillaged and harvested for profit. Democracy is a mirage, a useful fiction to keep the population passive and compliant. Propaganda, including entertainment and spectacle, and coercion through state-administered surveillance and violence are the primary tools of governance. This is why, despite years of egregious police violence, there is no effective reform.

Again, it is important to remember that we have been headed in this direction for a long time, and to consider that there have been times in our history when the punishment for dissent was worse. Public crises of the kind that occurred in 2001 and 2008 do not create this attitude; they re-legitimize it. As Max Blumenthal, one of the great writers on the Israeli Occupation of Palestine, has pointed out, a push to “destroy the mounting grassroots BDS campaign to boycott, divest from and sanction Israel” has released warning signals to many activist groups and those concerned with the slow motion genocide of the Palestinians. Led in the congress byCongress, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and figures like Ted Cruz in the Senate, the movement to outlaw BDS has gained an increasing amount of traction. Ros-Lehtinen is quoted in Blumenthal’s piece as having said, “Free speech is being used in our country to denigrate Israel and we need to actively fight against that,” and the piece also cites Ted Cruz, who said to a crowd of tens of thousands of AIPAC supporters, “they [BDS] will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” Blumenthal writes, “From Washington to Paris to London, Israel lobbyists are extracting ritual denunciations of BDS from its political hand puppets and authoring new laws to forbid its implementation. Repressive legislative efforts are accompanied by legal subterfuge, high-tech sabotage, McCarthy-style online blacklists and carefully orchestrated smear campaigns against anyone who resists.” France and the UK have already introduced legislation outlawing BDS, and AIPAC is increasing pressure on American lawmakers to introduce such legislation. It has long been known that the movement has endured enormous attempts at sabotage and surveillance.

I've seen settings like that painting in California, yes, even with the gardeners (usually Latin American). But the nudism jars - American culture is very prudish, especially nudism among people of a certain age and with bodies that aren't conventionally attractive. One would see that more in Germany or the Nordic countries.

Republican lawmakers in the state introduced a bill last week in the legislature that would not hold motorists liable for negligently running over someone obstructing a roadway. The bill was introduced in response to a year of protests over a proposed pipeline near the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
"A driver of a motor vehicle who negligently causes injury or death to an individual obstructing vehicular traffic on a public road, street, or highway may not be held liable for any damages," the bill reads. "A driver of a motor vehicle who unintentionally causes injury or death to an individual obstructing vehicular traffic on a public road, street, or highway is not guilty of an offense."
Lawmakers told the Bismark Tribune that the bill is needed after protesters blocked traffic during oil pipeline protests.
