Conservative Paul Craig Roberts: The US Government Tortures Children.

... and here's the HRW Report that Roberts bases his claim on. Fill your boots.

Lest anyone think I want to noisily pat Canada on the back for being "the nice people that live above a meth lab" (the late Robin Williams' description of Canada), here's a recent example of two mentally challenged individuals  sucked into terrorism activities - arrested, charged and convicted - and then the whole thing overturned by an outraged judge who denounced the nefarious actions of the RCM Police and their idiotic waste of tax dollars.

Round up the usual suspects. Even if they can't find their asses with both hands. Because freedom. Or something.

B.C. Supreme Court judge has ruled the RCMP entrapped John Nuttall and Amanda Korody to blow up the Legislature.

The Elective Affinities of Hillary Clinton

by Luciana Bohne

Quote:
This is the Age of Empire, and empire breeds monsters. We live with them now. Imperialism is our political and economic reality. Nothing material or substantial can be reformed within this colossal juggernaut. Yet, we continue to pretend that this has no bearing on our lives. In 2003 alone, the Iraq invasion cost $60 billion, three times the yearly budget for education, yet, we wonder why schools are starving for funds. When we clamor for reforms without mentioning imperialism, it is as if we were told we would be dead in three weeks and reacted by scheduling an appointment for a facelift.

clap clap. So what is a US President? As in .. ANY US President?

Quote:
They are the CEOs of international capitalism in the White House. Their charge is to do away with the sovereignty of nations, economically when possible, militarily when necessary. They destabilize and destroy whole countries through open, economic, proxy, or clandestine wars; they organize and train terrorist organizations; they foment regime change; they privatize the public wealth; they impose deadly economic reforms on countries they indebt in perpetuity; they launch economic sanctions, often in tandem or in the run-up to war. The goal they serve is the domination of the planet to extract resources, secure markets, and depress wages.

HRC is the new Agrippina on the Potomac. But she's just one of many that are much the same.

Quote:
The liberal humanitarians trust Hillary’s exemplary ability to sell a war crime as a service to humanity.

Nicely put. Think Canadians are immune to this shite?

Quote:
A liberal society cannot be defended by herbivores. We need carnivores to save us,” wrote Michael Ignatieff, former Professor of Human Rights Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, in a New York Times magazine op-ed piece, May 2, 2004.

There is more- much more.

Quote:
Liberal humanitarian warmongers peddle the ludicrous claim that “America is the essential country” (Madeleine Albright) for safeguarding liberal democracy throughout the world, sublimely indifferent to the evidence that the world can’t wait to get America’s essentialism off its back. Hillary Clinton’s belligerent foreign policy is notorious. She has promised to bomb Iran. She has managed and supervised the destruction of Libya. She has organized the coups in Paraguay and Honduras. Her neo-con team at the State Department funded and organized the coup in Ukraine, Nazified its political, military, and cultural life, triggering a civil war (while calling Putin “Hitler”).

Murdered by a SWAT Team for Traffic Tickets: Inside the Police Killing of Black Mother Korryn Gaines

Democracy Now wrote:
In New York City on Monday, over 100 people marched to protest the recent police killing of African-American mother Korryn Gaines in Maryland. On August 1, Baltimore County police killed the 23-year-old mother after what they say was an armed standoff. Police were at Gaines’s apartment to execute an arrest warrant related to a traffic violation. They initially said they entered Korryn Gaines’s apartment with a key obtained from her landlord. But court documents say police kicked down the door. Once the police entered the apartment, Korryn Gaines was live-streaming the standoff via Facebook before her account was shut down. Police say they killed Gaines after she pointed a shotgun at them. Police also say they shot her 5-year-old son, Kodi Gaines, who suffered an injury to his cheek but survived.

Neo-liberalism is death. And right in your own backyard.

Quote:
The failed states of Iraq, Syria and Libya, a direct result of globalization, have their counterparts in Detroit, St. Louis, Oakland, Memphis, Baltimore, Atlanta, Milwaukee and the south side of Chicago. They are our versions of Mogadishu, complete with lawlessness, senseless killings, armed gangs, widespread hunger, fear, a population retreating into the numbing embrace of opiates, crippling poverty, dysfunctional state institutions, the growth of private security companies that protect the elites, and indiscriminate police violence that creates reigns of terror aimed at the poor. The more the global corporate forces extract from us in the name of austerity and the maximization of profit, the more parts of the U.S. will descend into domestic versions of the failed states overseas. The same system exists here and abroad.

Fooled Again by Chris Hedges

Ohio boy, 13, with BB gun shot and killed by police Chief shows images of replica BB gun, says it 'looks like a firearm that could kill you'

Mr. Magoo

Do you feel that it looked like a firearm that could kill you?

ikosmos ikosmos's picture

The USA "mistakenly" bombed the Syrian Arab Army, killing 60 and injuring 100, and then stopped bombing once the Daesh terrorists got a good foothold.

The Daesh Air Force has "USA" written on its wings.

Even the Russian Foreign Ministry has noted that it was either gross negligence or direct assistance (to Daesh) by the US.

Ah, well, as long as there's "plausible deniability" then this barbaric American bull in a China shop can keep smashing the plates.

Because "freedom".

Mr. Magoo wrote:

To me yes because I know nothing about guns. To a police officier I have no idea. The entire incident just leaves me speechless.

Mr. Magoo

I have no idea whether that image of the gun was an accurate image.  But for years now, "toy" guns (air guns, "airsoft" guns, and so on) have been required to feature an orange muzzle, specifically so that they cannot be mistaken for the real thing.

Years ago, I owned a CO2 pellet pistol that had no such safeguard.  If I'd pulled it on a police officer then that officer would have had to really, really know their stuff and notice the small cartridge screw at the bottom of the grip.  Other than that, from a few feet away it was a .38.

And I'm certainly not applauding this incident.  But I'm curious how that (toy) weapon was unmarked.

It's all alledged at this point, and this could have been 3 different people....

According to a 911 transcript obtained by the Columbus Dispatch newspaper, several young men approached a man in the street Wednesday — one with a gun — and demanded money. The victim handed over $10.

Officers investigating the report Wednesday spotted three males east of downtown Columbus who matched the description of the suspects, authorities said. Two of them ran away when officers tried to speak with them.

The police chased the pair into a nearby alley and tried to take them into custody. That's when Tyre pulled out a gun, and an officer fired his weapon, hitting the boy repeatedly, police said.

Tyre died at a children's hospital.

Police reviewing evidence from the scene determined the boy's firearm was actually a BB gun with an attached laser sight.

If this is the same 3 people, they had used the bb gun to rob someone of 10$. The attached laser sight suggests the gun had been deliberately modified to look real.

More on The United States of Daesh.

The story outlines how a Syrian Member of Parliament has noted that they have audio recordings of US/Daesh communication prior to the NATO bombing [US, UK, Denmark and "non member" Australia] of Syrian troops (that killed 62 and wounded 100).

This shows that the the US, and its satellite regimes, are acting as the Air Force for terrorists.

Chris Hedges wrote:
State-administered violence is all that lies between the corporate state and widespread unrest. The power elites know it.

So it all makes sense. Without the violence of the United States of Atrocity, there would be an uprising.

Quote:
The corporate state needs to create the illusion that the courts and the police are impartial and just. Once this illusion is cemented into the public consciousness, victims can be blamed for their oppression. Institutionalized murder becomes acceptable. Police violence becomes part of the cost of keeping us safe. The oppressed have no legitimacy or voice.

... Police have killed over 700 people this year. The illusions of reform are used to alter public consciousness rather than the machinery of corporate power. These illusions are created to reassure us that those that are arrested, beaten, killed or sent away to prison for decades deserve their fate. Yes, the state may admit, there is an abuse committed here or an injustice committed there, but the system itself, the state insists, is fundamentally fair and just. This is a lie the elites go to tremendous lengths to disseminate.

The corporate state is counting on counterviolence against police, which is inevitable, and further acts of domestic terrorism, which also are inevitable. Acts of violence directed against the state are used by the organs of state propaganda, including the corporate press, to foster a culture of fear, to deify the police and to demonize the oppressed in our inner cities and in the Middle East. All criticism of excessive state violence, once these illusions dominate the society, will be condemned as disloyal and unpatriotic. The corporate state, until it is destroyed, will do what it is designed to do—kill with impunity.

Police Killings Won't Stop.

6079_Smith_W

I think you may have missed that he is deliberately not talking about the U.S., but about a global corporate state which has control over governments throughout the world:

Quote:

The corporate state, by pillaging the nation, has destroyed capitalism’s traditional forms of social control. The population is integrated into a capitalist democracy by decent wages and employment opportunities, labor unions, mass-produced consumer products, a modest say in governance, mechanisms for marginal reform, pensions, affordable health care, a judiciary that is not utterly subservient to the elites and corporate power, the possibility for social, political and economic advancement, good public education, arts funding and a public broadcasting system that gives a platform to those who are not in service to the elites. These elements make possible the common good, or at least the perception of the common good.

Global capitalism, however, is not concerned with the cohesion of the nation-state. The relentless quest for profit trumps internal stability. Everything and everyone is pillaged and harvested for profit. Democracy is a mirage, a useful fiction to keep the population passive and compliant. Propaganda, including entertainment and spectacle, and coercion through state-administered surveillance and violence are the primary tools of governance. This is why, despite years of egregious police violence, there is no effective reform.

"Late America"

Eric Fischl’s "New painting fresh off the easel"

Quote:
The scene is a stylish backyard dominated by an in-ground pool; four lined-up, upholstered designer chaise lounges; matching tables; and a large green-poled deck umbrella. The surroundings are immaculate, minimalistic, barren, a cliché out of any lifestyle magazine. Simply but lushly painted in blazing blue, white, green, and flesh tones, it’s a suburban-American idyll — the territory behind bushes, hedges, walls, or within gated communities, isolated and invisible from the outside. Eden run on a skeleton crew. In the center of the painting, however, is a psychic avalanche: A hulking male figure, seeming about half human and half creature of animal instinct, lies on his side on a towel on the cement at the edge of the pool, contorted in some fetal seizure. His scrotum pokes between his legs. He’s clown, clod, monster, victim. You don’t know if this is a pose of fear, self-loathing, shame, insanity, radical exposure, masturbation, or rigor mortis.

More

Quote:
All the figures are male, so this is a story of the wreck of masculinity, something bankrupt, buckling, sick, unconscious of everything around it. Especially in the naked man, who is totally somaticized, I see an empire ending in an infantile whimper, a country identified by the heroism and pain it is forgetting, turning inward, being consumed by itself, pampered, deluded, duped, marooned, and wishing for stronger others to make quick fixes and take dramatic actions, to show the self-confidence that they lack, and to make those they feared go away by turning them into objects of open hatred and discrimination. So that we can be great again. Or forget that we haven’t lived up to our own expectations. Or blame others. I see the boy wrapped in the flag while cathecting on a stuffed animal in place of real love or substance, seeing one of his futures as a man blown to emotional smithereens, shapeless, in a shambles. The most present-tense emotion in the painting is the workers stifling their contempt and being left to fend for themselves.

Finally

"I remembered Faulkner’s line from Absalom, Absalom!: “Now the period which ended in catastrophe begins.”

The painting is perfectly titled Late America. To me, the late imparts the darkness of the American night, a period implying an end of history and death. I don’t know what the America means anymore. Either way, we — like the figures in this painting — are sleeping under strange, strange skies."

What is a Terrorist? The Criminalization of American Dissent in the 21st Century

http://www.counterpunch.org/2017/01/06/what-is-a-terrorist-the-criminali...

"Environmentalists are not targeted for their violence, but for their dissent..."

ikosmos ikosmos's picture

That piece by M. V. Whelan on the continuing criminalization of dissent, even calling all dissent terrorism, notes that ...

Quote:
Again, it is important to remember that we have been headed in this direction for a long time, and to consider that there have been times in our history when the punishment for dissent was worse. Public crises of the kind that occurred in 2001 and 2008 do not create this attitude; they re-legitimize it. It is also important to consider that the ability of the security apparatus to monitor and punish those who dissent has been on the rise in our more recent history and will become more naked the more public crises we encounter in the near future. Trump will be cruder about this than Obama has been or Clinton would have been, but we should continue to expect it to get worse for the foreseeable future no matter who holds power.

He also noted the criminalization of dissent around the BDS Movement, which has been going on for quite some time ...

Quote:
Recent developments also show that the movement for boycott, divestment from, and sanctions on Israel has become a target for criminalizing dissent as much or more than any other group. As Max Blumenthal, one of the great writers on the Israeli Occupation of Palestine, has pointed out, a push to “destroy the mounting grassroots BDS campaign to boycott, divest from and sanction Israel” has released warning signals to many activist groups and those concerned with the slow motion genocide of the Palestinians. Led in the congress byCongress, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and figures like Ted Cruz in the Senate, the movement to outlaw BDS has gained an increasing amount of traction. Ros-Lehtinen is quoted in Blumenthal’s piece as having said, “Free speech is being used in our country to denigrate Israel and we need to actively fight against that,” and the piece also cites Ted Cruz, who said to a crowd of tens of thousands of AIPAC supporters, “they [BDS] will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” Blumenthal writes, “From Washington to Paris to London, Israel lobbyists are extracting ritual denunciations of BDS from its political hand puppets and authoring new laws to forbid its implementation. Repressive legislative efforts are accompanied by legal subterfuge, high-tech sabotage, McCarthy-style online blacklists and carefully orchestrated smear campaigns against anyone who resists.” France and the UK have already introduced legislation outlawing BDS, and AIPAC is increasing pressure on American lawmakers to introduce such legislation. It has long been known that the movement has endured enormous attempts at sabotage and surveillance.

Protesters may want to think twice about blocking roads in North Dakota.

Republican lawmakers in the state introduced a bill last week in the legislature that would not hold motorists liable for negligently running over someone obstructing a roadway. The bill was introduced in response to a year of protests over a proposed pipeline near the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

"A driver of a motor vehicle who negligently causes injury or death to an individual obstructing vehicular traffic on a public road, street, or highway may not be held liable for any damages," the bill reads. "A driver of a motor vehicle who  unintentionally causes injury or death to an individual obstructing vehicular traffic on a public road, street, or highway is not guilty of an offense."

Lawmakers told the Bismark Tribune that the bill is needed after protesters blocked traffic during oil pipeline protests.

President-elect Donald Trump may want to make a deal with Russia, award-winning journalist John Pilger told RT, adding that the “US intelligence and national security monolith is pointed towards war.”

Read moreTrump: US may lift Russian sanctions in exchange for nuclear reduction deal – Times, Bild

“It seems that he [Donald Trump] wants to make a deal with Russia, it makes sense from everyone’s point of view,” Pilger told RT’s Rory Suchet during a lengthy interview. “There is a great pressure on him not to do it”.

The US president now has “enormous military power,” noted Pilger. Trump is currently under pressure from fellow Republicans calling for tougher sanctions against Russia and those standing for softening rhetoric towards Moscow.

“The US’ biggest business is war. Lockheed Martin and all other major armament companies have a great halt on the US administration, on the US Congress. The so-called intelligence community and national security monolith is pointed towards war.”

The ultimate ambition of ‘Washington Hawks’ is regime change in Russia – “to dismember the Russian Federation,” according to the veteran journalist. He reminded about interventions US conducted since the end of the WWII against numerous nations.

“If Trump is going to drawback from that, that’s very good news. The US usually only attack defenseless countries. They rarely attack countries that can stand up for themselves.”

That’s why “this reckless provocation” on the western borders with Russia and in the Asia Pacific against China is “slightly unusual,” as it’s taking things up to “another level of risks and provocation,” he added.

Pilger was referring to the NATO deployment in Eastern Europe. Earlier in January, some 2,800 pieces of military hardware and 4,000 troops arrived at the German port of Bremerhaven to be transferred to various NATO bases.

“NATO is a war-making machine, it’s an American operation. Why is it doing this? I think there is a real strategic extremism in the US.” And the “prize in this operation” is Russia, he concluded, adding that such a prize was almost won in the times of Boris Yeltsin (1991-1999), the first Russian president to serve after the fall of the Soviet Union.

“And what really has been upsetting in the US is that Russia is again independent, and that’s intolerable.”

Pilger called outgoing US leader Barack Obama “one of the most violent presidents.”
