Greek Police Fire Tear Gas, Use Pepper Spray On Protesting Pensionersby Tyler DurdenOct 3, 2016 10:54 AM
Familiar scenes returned to Athens today, when Greek police fired teargas at a demonstration of pensioners protesting over cutbacks to their benefits, part of an austerity drive dictated by the Troika (or was it Quadriga). Between 1,500 and 2,0000 pensioners attempted to march to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras's office, however they were blocked when riot police blocked their path, intercepting them with pepper spray and tear gas.
Greek pensioners called on the nation to rise against the government’s harsh austerity policy as they attempted to break through a cordon of police buses and special operations troops barring their way to the prime minister’s residence.
.........this is the wave of the future...in Canada...
with bankrupting Canada, collapsing need for our raw materials, shaming of our war industries and violations against our Indigenous Nations...inevitably! our pensioners will take the brunt of future government austerity measures......
I hear one of the hallmarks of crack investigative journalism is anonymity. Smacks of such a high level of professionalism, not putting one's name to one's work.
Here's a link that actually, you know, exists:

From the article posted above:
Leftwing government?
Good point. When they're repressive, they're left wing. When they're preaching the economic blessings of austerity and neo-liberalism, then they're just sensible "middle of the road" politicians.
ETA: Thus Spake the once "left wing" Guardian. That is actually a pretty big "tell" - to use the terminology of poker players - that the Guardian isn't what it used to be.
I would like to see the Raging Grannies expand by leaps and bounds however. And maybe be joined by the Grumpy Grandads.
More like left wing heroes!
Go read some of the older Tsipras/Syriza threads! They were going to turn the whole world on it's ear... until they evidently didn't.
"Curse you, and your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"
ZeroHedge is a right wing site.
Oh, there's twenty-thousand grandmas
Wave their hankies in the air
All burning up their pensions
And shouting, "It's not fair!"
There's a regiment of soldiers
Standing looking on
And the queen is bravely shouting,
"What the hell is going on?"
With a blood-curdling "tally-ho"
She charged into the ranks
And blessed all those grandmas who
With their dying breaths screamed, "Thanks!"
OK, as a Firefly / Serenity fan, that was a good reference.
The cancellation of Firefly after a single 14-episode season will go down as one of history's greatest infamies.
