Richard Branson has posted an account of a lunch meeeting he had with Trump back when The Donald was reeling from several of his companies going bankrupt. It's rather frightening, but not surprising.

Is Cheeto face the worst candidate ever? Probably. But I lived through the Reagan years and back then in my overly enthusiastic youth,wrote songs about him and considered Hinckley (almost) a hero.

I have to say,that this Orange asshole makes Ronnie look like a moderate. He also makes Dubya seem somewhat smart.

But Bill Clinton was a bigger asshole than both Raygun and Dubya.

So in my lifetime has there been a worse candidate? Very debateable. I'd have to think about it.

Michael Moore is, of course, very anti-Trump and I'm trying, but so far failing, to find the original speech for original context. The edited one is approx 4m25s long. Does anyone know where I can find the original?

Let me go on the record as preferring a Clinton victory. I think it will be close, if I had to put money down it would be on Trump (assuming 1:2 odds for either candidate). Once the Titanic sinks, maybe Americans will be ready to try a truly different tack. This will happen faster if Clinton wins than if Trump wins. Trump might be able to delay it - if only by being a distraction of public outrage - by ten or fifteen years. When the collapse comes, I want the blame to be exactly where it belongs - at the feet of the establishment.

I'm still young and healthy. If there is to be a revolution - which I believe is inevitable and just a matter of time - better to be sooner rather than later.

It's very simple. Trump represents all the dark forces that exist in American politics and the American psyche. The reason people are uncomfortable with him is that the US has never actually confronted these dark forces head on, instead they've covered them up or tried to pretend their way around them. People will say, "I treat women with respect, I don't judge racial minorities, I have gay friends, ergo I am a good person, problem solved." Problem is not solved because it does not go to the structural issues facing society. For example, when it comes to racism (and I really wish I could remember where I heard this) I was listening to a discussion during Martin Luther King day, and the point was made that in the 1960s, if you wanted blacks out of a neighbourhood you simply said so, but now you just raise the rents in the area and that effectively accomplishes the same thing. So here you have this crazy person who says what so many people think, and people don't know how to "make it go away," because it won't "go away." It has to be fought, and fighting it is not easy.
