Trump Gets Ready to Be a Bad Loser

!!!

NorthReport

We ain't seen nothing yet!

November 9th (the day following the election) will be a truly revolting part of Trump the Chump's campaign

TRUMP GETS READY TO BE A BAD LOSER

The wheels of this strategy came flying off in three dramatic episodes: Trump’s meltdown in the first debate, when he was unable to mount a sustained argument either for his candidacy or against Clinton’s; the release of the audio and video of Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women; and the subsequent effective abandonment of Trump by Party leaders. (A quarter of Republican governors, senators, and Congress members have now said that they will not support Trump.)

“It is so nice that the shackles have been taken off me and I can now fight for America the way I want to,” Trump tweeted on Tuesday morning, declaring an official end to the Conway experiment—and to any discernible plan to win the election. Trump is now attacking Republican leaders who allegedly betrayed him as much as he’s attacking Clinton. Perhaps the temper tantrum will pass and Trump will refocus his campaign in the final days on issues that have some strategic value to him. But it’s more likely that Trump knows he can’t win and that he has decided that the last stretch of his campaign should be used to set the stage for the aftermath of his loss. In this scenario, what’s crucial for Trump is to be able to convince his hardcore supporters that he—and they—didn’t lose, but that the dreaded Republican establishment sabotaged the Trump campaign in the final weeks. This strategy is in keeping with the way Trump has always spun his greatest defeats, from his failures in Atlantic City to his loss in the Iowa caucuses. He either denies that he failed or he argues that he was cheated.

Trump is either victorious or victimized, but never a loser. This week marked the end of Trump trying to actually win, and the beginning of him plotting to explain why the election was stolen.

It's possible the Republican Party will not live through this episode. From the day they allowed the so-called Tea Party to operate within the confines of their party, the GOP has been sinking in a morass of charge and counter-charge between the old-time Republicans and the Tea Party newbies.

Many others in the GOP have attacked their own party. Trump is only latest to adopt that strategy.

I don't know what it would take to make the GOP a coherent whole again, but I doubt it can be done for many years. On the other hand, as far as foreign policy, the USA has been a one-party state for a long time, so who would miss the Republicans?

NorthReport

It's difficult sometimes to describe the 2 main USA political parties as neither one is that progressive to say the least.

But never write off the very right wing. The GOP will bounce back as soon as they lose Trump.

Mr. Magoo

Plus don't forget:  if Trump loses, that means Clinton wins.  Once the U.S.A. figures out that she's way worse than the Donald (and that she's had Ebola this whole time) then the Democrats AND the Republicans will have little choice but to fold up tents.

I'm thinking that in 2016, the Libertarians might have a slight edge over the Greens -- IF the Constitution Party doesn't split that vote (and it's a big IF).

Google Is Ripe for Trump’s Sore-Loser Conspiracy Theories

So long as Google search remains a black box, conspiracy theorists will say something nefarious is happening within that box. Trump, on the other hand, doesn’t have an opacity problem. His lies are quite transparent.

Count on Trump to be a Sore Loser

Add to this predictable ugliness a losing nominee who rouses supporters with assertions that the election was somehow stolen from him and you have a recipe for turmoil of a most un-American variety.

Just how un-American can be judged by looking to Al Gore's gracious concession to George W. Bush. The Democratic nominee had won the popular vote; he had every reason to believe that, but for a botched election and butterfly ballot in Florida, he would have won the Electoral College majority as well.

Nonetheless, Gore, in the aftermath of the Supreme Court's ruling, spoke of meeting with Bush "so that we can start to heal the divisions of the campaign and the contest through which we just passed." He invoked Sen. Stephen Douglas on being defeated by Abraham Lincoln -- "Partisan feeling must yield to patriotism" -- and added, "This is America, and we put country before party. We will stand together behind our new president."

There is every reason, from his current comments and his past history, to think that Trump would respond in a different, far less elevated manner. Consider Trump 2012, who unleashed a stream of unhinged tweeting about Mitt Romney's loss -- unearthed by my Washington Post colleague Stephen Stromberg.

The president "lost the popular vote by a lot and won the election. We should have a revolution in this country," Trump proclaimed, although Obama in fact won both the popular vote and the Electoral College. A few minutes later: "The phoney [sic] electoral college made a laughing stock out of our nation. The loser one!" A few minutes later: "We should march on Washington and stop this travesty."

Trump notwithstanding, the election was not "a total sham." The Electoral College, for better or worse, is specified in the Constitution. Calling for revolution? Imagine what Trump might do when the loser is himself.

In his interview with the Post's Philip Rucker, Trump offered an unsettling preview. The United States, Rucker noted, has a tradition in which losers "concede graciously and try to get their supporters on board like Al Gore did in 2000. Would you?"

Trump: "I don't want to jump the gun. I don't want to talk about that. I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if the election ... there's a lot of dirty pool played at the election, meaning the election is rigged."

Trump's evidence, such as it is, of prospective rigging involves the string of recent court rulings invalidating voter ID laws and the phantom menace of voter fraud. "The voter ID situation has turned out to be a very unfair development," Trump claimed to Rucker. "We may have people vote 10 times."

There is no such evidence. The provisions of North Carolina's restrictive voting law, a federal appeals court just ruled, "impose cures for problems that did not exist."

Trump is dangerous, and the threat he poses might not be extinguished by a loss at the polls.

Not good folks, not good at all.  Frown

Fears mount on Trump's 'rigged election' rhetoric

Top Republicans are coming under pressure to defend the legitimacy of the electoral system.

And, they say, only Republican leaders who speak up will have any chance of stopping it.

"Polls close, but can you believe I lost large numbers of women voters based on made up events THAT NEVER HAPPENED. Media rigging election!" Trump tweeted Sunday morning in response to the latest round of numbers showing him behind.

President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and their top aides, along with leaders on Capitol Hill, worry about the preview Trump is providing in this final month, part kamikaze mission to take down Clinton, part temper tantrum by a man who has never been embarrassed on either this scale or spotlight.

They worry about how his egged-on followers might respond, and the violence — perhaps against Muslims, Latinos or any of the many other groups he has targeted in his campaign rhetoric — that might follow.

“People do dangerous things when dangerous leaders foment deep resentment,” said Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.).

Trump seems to have shifted from campaigning for the Presidency to doing his best to ensure that Hillary won't be able to govern.

That has become standard operating procedure for the Republicans since at least the first Clinton administration. It really is quite a scandal to anyone who cares about the U.S. government functioning as the constitution provides.

Mr. Magoo

I know there's been talk of how diehard Trump supporters will (or won't!) deal with his possible defeat.  And since so many of them seem to feel that this is all a "life and death" contest, it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on them.

But wouldn't it be touching -- wouldn't it just get you right in the feels -- if Trump supporters simply got together, brought some trowels and buckets and bricks, and maybe made some sandwiches and sweet tea, and just went ahead and built that wall as a tribute to Saint Donald?  They could call it "Habitat for Inhumanity" or something like that, but they could school us all on how, if people hate enough, and if they care enough to REALLY hate, anything is possible.

I love this thread. Let it stand as a testimony to how rational progressive people get deluded by the MSM into believing any bullshit at all.

The United States is an ugly, brutal society. It treats people of foreign countries, and its own people, like dirt. Anyone who thinks this started with Donald Trump is part of the problem - correction: IS the problem.

Trump was right. The election was rigged. In his favor. Between voter suppression laws in Wisconsin and North Carolina, and the fact that Clinton got more votes in the country as a whole, I say, Rigged.

Trump was supposed to lose and the Republican party was supposed to be on the verge of extinction.Media/polls and Democrats couldnt have been more wrong. now Trump has a blank cheque to shape America anyway he likes for the next 4 years as republicans have full control.

I gotta bad feeling about this.

Both the House and the US presidency are now controlled by the party who lost both in terms of the aggregate popular vote. This is a fact.

Exactly.

Just to be clear ... it was, in fact, Hilary Clinton who was the "bad" loser. Her campagin chairperson, John Podesta - the very same person with whom Clinton communicated her knowledge of Saudi and Qatari funding of jihadists in Syria [all while merrily accepting truckloads of cash for the Clinton Foundation, which funded her campaign, and while making/approving the largest arm deal in human history as Sec of State with the Saudis, estimated at 80 billion U$, etc., etc., etc.] - went on to the stage, sans Clinton, and told the assembled and teary-eyed Clinton supporters that they should "go home" and "wait for the votes to be counted" because Clinton wasn't going to speak to them. Very Presidential, I must say.

Clinton, it seems, was locked up in her hotel room, ripping the limbs off her Trump voodoo doll. To no avail.

josh

If you knowing anything about U.S. concession speeches in close elections, it is standard pratice for the "loser" to concede the following day.

johnpauljones

i was amazed as i watched the huge crowds protesting on tv in NYC and Chicago last night. I do wonder though if the opposite result had happened how I would have reacted to the Trump protests in the streets.

It seems to me that Clinton acted with honour some in her speech yesterday some of her supporters acted just like what was expected of the Trumpites after he had lost.

too bad the Dems couldn't deliver their votes ... because of the failure of a Dem ground game the next 4 years is Trump is President. Thank you Hillary et al

Neither side has the moral high ground. Both camps are making obscene hateful comments. This campaign brought out the worst in both sides and shows how devided the US is.

If the United States wanted to make the Presidency a matter of a plurality in the popular vote, they could literally cut out two huge steps and get right down to it.

1.  No need for "primaries".  Just let each party choose a candidate.

2.  No need for the "electoral college".  Just let people vote, and whichever candidate gets the most votes for President is the President.

I find that hard to believe.  I watched the election on CBC, and everyone found the sending home of the people at the Democrat gathering quite strange.

You may find it hard to believe but it's a fact.. Happened most recently in 2004 when Kerry did not concede until Wednesday afternoon.

The Americans would be better off with a Parliamentary system. This would open the door to 3rd and 4th parties. It's not a perfect system but it's superior to the American model.
