Supposedly anti-neo con Trump may be appointing neo-con John Bolton Secretary of State.

Doug Woodard

What do Bannon and Priebus tell us about Trump's coming reign?

Secretary of State will either be John Bolton (pushed by Dick Cheney) or Rudy Giuliani. So much for that slayer of neo-conservatives, that dove of peace, Donald Trump.

The USA didn't dislike Assad because he was a tyrant. Remember they sent Canadian citizen Maher Arar there for torture. They were perfectly happy with Assad, as long as he did what they wanted.

After all, when it comes to supporting tyrants, nobody does it better than the USA. The list of tyrannies they have nurtured over the years is long, and contains the names of some of the most vicious of dictators that have ever lived.

And strangely enough, Assad wasn't a vicious tyrant until the USA decided he had to go. Then suddenly he becomes the devil incarnate.

There is one thing I know for certain. That is, the USA wanted to overthrow Assad in order to allow them to replace him with someone just as bad or worse, preferably destroying a large part of the country's infrastructure in the process. That is precisley what they did in both Iraq and Lybia.

I agree that the U.S. has caused a lot of destruction and misery in Syria but I also think Assad also bears a lot of the responsibility for the horrible situation Syria finds itself in.

Trump will begin looking at how to withdraw from NAFTA and the consequences of doing so on his first day in office, and he will notify Mexico and Canada that he may seek changes to the trade agreement, according to the memo reviewed by CNN. Trump would be looking at formally withdrawing from NAFTA by day 200, according to the memo.

Thanks for that, Rev - it's important to recall facts from time to time, even if not many can hear.

You could also replace "Assad" and "Syria" with "Saddam Hussein" and "Iraq", and the same will be true.

Note also how the MSM deals with conflict. Two major cities - Aleppo and Mosul - are battlegrounds right now:

Aleppo is inhabited by "rebels" and "civilians" and "children". Jabhat al-Nusra - part of Al Qaeda? Nope, can't see 'em.

Mosul is inhabited by "ISIS". So no problem.

It was worth "derailing" the thread to recall the truth. Thanks yet again, Rev.

I believe there's a whole history of nonsense regarding USA's foreign policy surrounding Syria.  During the Reagan years various acts of terrorism that most believed originated from Syria resulted in the USA targeting Libya instead (since Libya was an easier and more isolated target than Syria).  A fiction that was more of a PR move on Reagan's part than anything else.  Of course, regarding fictions, I hear Putin propagates these aplenty.  If Trump and Putin become pals, it will more than ever become harder to know what's real and what isn't, I predict.

Of course progressives in the West should not accept the will of the Syrian people to move forward in peace. After this referendum the West and its allies doubled down on regime change and so did the "democratic" opposition who demanded the overthrow of the government before they would even sit down and talk peace. So we sent them more weapons that miraculously ended up in the hands of Islamic insurgents.

Former Goldman Sachs banker Steven Mnuchin has been seen at Trump Tower amid rumors that he’s the leading candidate for Treasury secretary. Billionaire investor Wilbur Ross appears headed to the Commerce Department. Steve Bannon, another Goldman alum, will work steps from the Oval Office. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon remains a possibility as Treasury secretary and will serve as an outside adviser if he doesn't get the job.

It’s a restoration of Wall Street power — and a potential flip in the way the industry is regulated — perhaps unparalleled in American history.

It appears that Alabama senator Jeff Sessions is going to be nominated as Attorney General of the U.S. Interesting that the same Jeff Sessions was rejected by the senate when Reagan nominated him for the federal judiciary because he was openly racist.

He absolutely — mockingly — rejects the idea that this is a racial line. "I'm not a white nationalist, I'm a nationalist. I'm an economic nationalist," he tells me. "The globalists gutted the American working class and created a middle class in Asia. The issue now is about Americans looking to not get f—ed over. .....the left seems only to wish to support globalists and war mongers in the guise of the left...which has been totally perverted from its original base of ideas...sad to say......and no doubt the whole thing will implode...so that the left will take omn again the chains of free trade globalization and warmongering...pretty sick the whole scenario....it will implode because the financials are imploding...starting with the collapsing bond markets...inflationism gaining traction, making capital investment toxically expensive as governments scramble to make their payments...cutting off social programs....so people generally will flee from the political system...to what? That is the question...but where will it be discussed...certainly not amongst the warmongering globalist left!

Mr. Magoo

And why they're red.

SeekingAPolitic...

Lets do a case study in faux leftists how they empower the right.

Lets look to france and the socialist's under hollande.  Because the hypocrisy and craven attitude towards the general public can not be hidden away.

On face of France has a main stream leftist party, the socialsits under hollande. Hollande ran 2012 on platform of anti-austerity and tax the "rich".  He got elected on those ideas but the people france got austerity and neo liberalism instead.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-france-economy-reforms-idUSKCN0UR0OO20...

Hollande came to power in 2012 on an anti-austerity ticket after declaring that the "world of finance" was his enemy and promising to slap a 75 percent tax on millionaires to subsidize jobs for young people.

But after economic growth failed to pick up and unemployment continued to rise, he engineered a major pro-business U-turn at the end of 2013. He has since offered 40 billion euros ($43 billion) in tax cuts for companies, cut government spending and eased regulation of sectors such as legal professions and bus transport.

His government has said it now wants to conduct a major overhaul of labor laws to give more flexibility to employers, cap compensation packages in cases of unfair dismissal to encourage companies to hire more, and deregulate certain so-called closed-shop professions by removing diploma requirements for jobs such as hairdressers or bakers

At this point if I could add sound, you would hear a slow mocking clap.  Well done mr. hollande your an inspiration to those who call themselves socialists world wide.

This kind of betrayal of the left no only does damage the case of every leftist in France and destroyes the main stream left party.  I think average socailist voter can conclude I voted socialist and i got this neoliberal garabage instead.  It also empowers Le Pen's statements of how useless the left is dealing with the economic concerns of the average person.  The left loses credibity among the voting public and rigth has message of only the right can solve your economic problems.

Again, you would hear a slow mocking clap.  Well done mr. hollande your an inspiration to those who call themselves socialists world wide.

so is Josh's comment 'he's his own Goebbles'.

Trump's grandpa got kicked out of Germany in 1905 after they say he made his fortune on the foundation of gouging miners and exploiting women during the gold rush and tried to move back. Trump's gpa didn't even make the money on land in NY. his sisters they say were the brains behind it all.

I think politics has entered the age of show business.  Here and in the US the leaders are more celebrity than anything else.  It's kind of like a declaration by the public that politics is meaningless.  They have no faith, so both nations chose charades.  Neither Trudeau nor Trump are a threat to the corporate sector or banks, who in both nations will be empowered even further under each respective administration.  In Canada and the US there was a chance to have government that would begin to lessen power of the banks and corporate sector (NDP/Sanders) and actually begin implementing some social programs (universal childcare, strengthen/create single payer health care) and each country instead opted for celebrity.  ETA:  mind you, the obnoxious themes that Trump ran on do merit full protest.

You have a charming simplicity of belief in the NDP, but to be specific, what was there in the recent federal election campaign in Canada that leads you to believe the NDP would threaten the corporate sector?
