Actually, even in the US, there are very few major politicians who would qualify as libertarian. At the end of the day, almost everyone can think of at least one issue that they do not want left up to the unfettered choice of the individual.

I would not try too hard to get a fix on the brand of right wing Trump is as he floats through a few. He is a populist in the worst way and he is right wing and he holds extreme views. He is also racist and sexist. Going beyond that could require knowledge of his peculiar brain and outlook too specific to find a category. I know he is dangerous and that is enough.

Facism was invented in the last century -- maybe we will have a word for Trumpsters that is different 100 years from now.

To call him not right or left is a joke, however. Is hard right with a number of quirks and he is surrounded by people HE PICKED who are also hard right.

His apporach to policy is right wing.

He mixes that with nationalism and protectionism but that's still a right wing version of these.

He is also a liar so he says things that have nothing to do with what he is or does. Don't forget that.

It's hard to know how to evaluate a man who jokes about wanting to date his own daughter.

The ban on Muslims by Trump has unified Canadian parties. Even the PQ have backed Trudeau's condemnation. But guess what party is silent? But Michael Chong expressed disapproval, saying the ban would not be looked on favourably by one of the most beloved Republican presidents in American history. What an asshole.

It's becoming clearer and clearer that the Right has become an extremist insurgency all over the globe. God help us if these bastards ever get re-elected.
