Site upgrade update

Hey folks,  it looks like some of our issues have been addressed (we can now post new topics) and some remain a problem (threads get lost, no private messaging). What is it, for you, that remains a problem? I'm compiling a list of outstanding issues which hopefully, after I convey them to our tech team, will be resolved. Let me know!

Thanks Meg.

Not everyone can post new topics though - is there a different process now?

Mr. Magoo

I would think that BBCode images would be a bit of a priority.  The workaround is a bit klunky for anyone who's not comfortable with HTML, and what's more it's currently not possible to have a quote and an image in the same post.

If by that Magoo you mean the ability to easily post images, I agree.  The old drop down menu to change the size was also easy to use.

MegB

NR, you have to log in to be able to post new topics. Have you tried that?

NorthReport

Yes Meg.

..i've created a couple new topics as well and those have not shown up. and yes i was logged in.

When one does a search is there any way to pull up the threads in chronological order so one can quickly locate the most recent thread on a particular topic?

Ken Burch

For me, the single biggest issues are 1)that private messaging has NOT been restored-btw, are they even GOING to restore it?-and the fact that, for whatever reason, you still can't delete duplicate posts-you can edit in a "self-delete" note, but you still can't get rid of the spaces where the dupes were.

I appreaciate the update, MegB, and please know that what I said upthread about the frustration of not getting updates was never aimed at you.  You are clearly doing all that you can.

Site management should have anticipated that people would want information and then tried to accommodate that.  The fact that site management seems to have decided that communication about the update situation wasn't all that important sends what I HOPE is an unintended message-a message that the management doesn't really care about the posters, a significant number of whom support the site through donations.

Meg - people here spent a fair bit of time outlining the problems in a previous thread. Rather than repeat everything here, it would generate a lot more confidence if we thought anyone was actually, like, looking at that thread and paying attention?

The only issue that appears to have been addressed - inconsistently and badly - is the ability to open new threads. The upgrade is aesthetically annoying, and dysfunctional. Please ask the tech team to just look at the detailed problems we have outlined in the previous thread, and let us know one by one when they have been resolved.

And what Ken Burch said about how we donate money to this site.

Thanks.

MegB

PMs are back as of late yesterday. Look for the messages link on the upper right next to the log in/log out link.

Unionist

Thanks, Meg. Unfortunately it seems that all past PMs are gone? Hope I'm wrong about that.

I'm afraid it's unlikely that our PM history will be transfered from the old servers. It would be cost-prohibitive and difficult for our tech person to find the time.

Edited to add: the flag as offensive button will come back in one form or other but it'll be a while before our tech can devote time to it.

Posting history will be back at some point. No timeline on that but when I know more I'll let you know.
