The self-inflicted chaos of our times
voice of the damned

Quote:
Like the French Medieval poet Francois Villon I feel like a stranger in my own country. The reason being; I am old enough to have known another Canada, far from perfect, but one that had more self-respect than it has now.

"Far from perfect"? That's an understatement. At least, according to the kind of talk that was being put forth on this site a few weeks ago, which held Canada to be "a racist colonialist state founded upon genocide", totally undeserving of any sort of positive commemoration, even on its birthday.

But hey. I guess there was a bit of "self-respect" back in the day, along with a greater assertion of our autonomy as a nation-state, to put a silver-lining on all the racist genocide.

i guess what is hardest to take for me, that despite so much awareness here, there so little dicussion about movement building, the nature of a radical departure....

Exactly. We have more than our fair share of arm-chair quarterbacks here at Rabble.

Yet none have made an effort to mobilize forces (to my knowledge) to counter our belligerent neighbour to the south.

Are you sure about that? Ultimately, greed is it's own enemy.

Take a look at where that product is made from. Lots of stuff made from COMMUNIST CHINA! COMMUNIST CHINA is Canada's second largest trading partner after the US, and growing!

Now China has a very muted approach to anti colonialism, but it's there! And you have to actually check out news outlets from Mainland China and around the world to really appreciate how Chinese interests are based upon trading with strong independant prosperous regions that the US/Europe has traditionally raped over and over again in Asia/Africa/Americas (including Canada if you can fuckin believe it!)

Don't look to the CBC or CNN corporate media to tell anyone shit about what's really happening in the world right now!!!!

Bit of a tangent, but Reuters is one of the oldest news agencies in the world, established in 1851. It is also one of the three largest, along with Associated Press and Agence France-Presse.

So maybe they tell the truth when they tell the truth we want to hear?

WWWTT

Possibly? It's hard to tell what the truth exactly is isn't it? Is it propaganda? Propaganda for who? Keep in mind it's only one of many I posted here. I've got to cover my ass as well to hey LOL! There are many forces in the world that don't want to use the US dollar anymore because the US federal reserve is seen as something like a mafia that only wants a cut of the action even though they do sweet shit fuck all for that cut(this is how I see it) And the players that want to cut out the US mafia are traditional allies of the US including Canada!

Who would have thought Harper was more anti US than good old Justin and the liberals hey? If you have a closed mind open to only a few media sources, well than that mat be your problem, not mine. The way i see it, Harper was more pro Canadian than Justin will ever be(in some real tangible ways)

Here's another related link

So maybe the news outlets from the UK may actually provide anti US angles that you wouldn't hear from the US?

I know one thing for sure, keep an open mind!!!!!

20 million Chinese died at the hands of the Japanese! Mostly innocent civilians! No where is this mentioned in the above link.(but I admit I didn't read to the end) How many Canadian civilians died at the hands of the Japanese?

There is a an idiom from China in reference to the US, it goes something like this "the US is China's greatest ally, and China's greatest enemy"

US intervention in the pacific war against Japan helped bring an end to China's "century of shame" and helped save countless of Chinese lives, the Jimmy Carter era of US politics helped China restructure their economy and expand on socialism. But obviously Korea and Vietnam conflicts brought the two nations damn close to nuclear wars!

Yes, to be sure, the moves being made to break away from the U.S. dollar domination/stranglehold has to be a good thing.

The efforts to mobilize forces however, that I was referring to, were more in line with the focus of the article being discussed in this thread. I would like to see more demonstrations organized to show our disgust with the status quo of the U.S.'s  military forays around the world.

Ya actually the US campaigns going on around the world I believe are tied with trading with the US dollar. Whenever someone talks about using a new form of currency, the US starts talking about democracy or terrorists and then Canada starts supporting.

We had the great opportunity to meet the Indian activist and scientist Vandana Shiva ... Please listen to what she told about globalization, agriculture, corporations, trade agreements like CETA and nonviolence

3.5 min video

NDPP

Shiva's greatest contribution to Canada in my opinion was her observation that in India there were peoples movements whereas here there were only activist movements. Too true. Wonder why?
