Fuck free speech It's about time!

Hopefully they include Wikileaks in their prosecutions

I really have no problem with this. My only real reservation is that it can set a dangerous precedent.

For example, what exactly is hate speech? Speech inciting violence and/or murder or speech such as BDS labeled as the anti-semitic hate speech that's been rising in recent years?

There's a huge difference between the two. And making it a crime for simply just offending someone, does not sound good.

Closing down blatant hate speech is not an assault on free speech. If you're peddling violence (neo-Nazi and ISIS internet sites for example) fuck them. Free speech does not include violence or incitement to murder.

Having said all that,I'd have to keep my eyes open to how far a law such as this would go and what exactly would be considered prosecutable hate speech.

JKR

Fuck idiotic black and white thread titles.

Boze

What's a hate crime?

Should it be illegal to write a facebook screed about how Jews control the media? I think we are entering into very dangerous territory.

NorthReport even says that Wikileaks should be included in the prosecutions...for what, exactly?

Mr. Magoo

I'm betting that in practice, this will end up controversial.  My guess:

20% of the controversy will be over who's being charged/stopped (e.g. "why would they arrest an honest person who's just spittin' truths??")

80% of the controversy will be over who's NOT being charged/stopped (e.g. "anyone else notice how that person is allowed to continue to infer that this group is bad somehow?  Clearly the fix is in!!")

The only thing worse than an inappropriate or illogical law is an inappropriate or illogical law that doesn't even punish the people you want punished.

Never fear.
You are perfectly safe as as long as you maintain your totalitarian-minded, state-servile attacks on whistleblowers. Doubleplusgood!

Mobo2000

Yes-  we can all sleep easy knowing that this power will be used impartially and fairly by the state.   Our betters have nothing but our betterment in mind.

And if you are one of those bleeding heart types that think people with bigoted/racist/sexist/transphobic views may be persuadable, may come around through discussion or exposure, may someday get "woke" as the kids say now, well stand down.   The state's got this covered.   The UK is going get rid of internet hate with the awesome power of criminal law!   Can't wait.   When  it works, maybe they'll roll it out here?

Don't prosecute Wikileaks, just that fucking asshole Julian Assange. Not likely to be done by AmeriKKKa seeing he's been working closely with the Repuke-igan Party. With the US government claiming him as the best thing since sliced bread ,I don't know why he's living in hiding. He's free as a bird now.

To be fair, I don't think either of them ever said anything that could remotely be considered "hate speech" for the purposes of prosecution.  I'm not sure what NR is on about WRT Wikileaks.

I have to agree with you...Neither have engaged in hate speech so on that front, there's nothing to prosecute.

But why is Assange still at the Ecuadorian Embassy in political asylum? He's earned his get out of jail free card. Unless the allegations of sexual assault is true and he's hiding from Sweden.

Most of the usual Assange haters have dropped that particular BS line from their repetoire.

The line used to be:
"Assange didn't really seek political asylum because of fear of US extradition, he's really in hiding because he’s afraid of charges being laid in Sweden."

It's an argument that only the ignorant would still innocently repeat, now that the Swedish state has said it won't lay charges, and has withdrawn the (UK precedent-setting) European Arrest Warrant.

Regardless, the UK continues to add to its multi-million pound Embassy surveillance operation  (its original police raid on the Embassy having failed), and has said he will be arrested for "skipping bail", a minor offense  which would normally bring a fine--especially when there are no outstanding other charges.

So you could revise your line to say that Assange continues his debilitating (5-year, and counting) de facto house arrest (which the UN  panel  deems "a form of arbitrary detention”) in order to avoid --a fine.
Right.

Then who the fuck or what the fuck is he hiding from?

Frankly,I could care less. I just think he's a fucking asshole who helped out the Trump administration, apparently according to you,for the hell of it.

What was his motivation? And why is he hiding behind the Ecuadoran Embassy? Have an answer?

Are you suggesting he's a spy? If that's an open secret, why doesn't Ecuador throw him out on his ass?

That's the best explanation I've been given. Thanks.

Obviously, the Assange haters (and whistleblower haters) don't really care  why he is still trapped in his debilitating 5-year Embassy asylum, though they'd probably prefer him in some US torture prison.

Yet, apparently, it's terribly puzzling to them why he is still in the Embassy given the "Trump/Wikileaks/Putin"   Troika Conspiracy Theory they've swilled from the incessant mainstream narrative. After all, they are all best buds, right?

To them, with an Assange-loyal, "Assange First" Trump, all is forgiven. The many thousands of incriminating diplomatic cables, documents, videos, surveillance leaks, will be forgotten. The long-sealed Grand Jury indictment will be torn up.

Assange may be paranoid, but he doesn't hold a candle to that kind of delusional thinking.

Both Trump's CIA director Mike Pompeo and Attorney General General Sessions have both made it clear that getting Assange is "a priority":

Chomsky: CIA Targeting of Julian Assange and WikiLeaks is “Disgraceful Act”

“We are going to step up our effort and already are stepping up our efforts on all leaks. This is a matter that’s gone beyond anything I’m aware of. We have professionals that have been in the security business of the United States for many years that are shocked by the number of leaks and some of them are quite serious. So yes, it is a priority. We’ve already begun to step up our efforts and whenever a case can be made, we will seek to put some people in jail.”

I hate whistler blowers? Survey says : XXX

You see me bashing Snowden or Chelsea Manning?

Assange played in active role in creating the Trump administration. But to be fair, where is Anonymous? They are nowhere because they are a bunch of blowhards and clowns.

So excuse me if I'm not crying into my beer for poor Julian Assange.

I can't believe we still have people believing this. Trump won and it's time to move on

This was never about the politics of the one party system. Assange knows this. This is a media thread but I am scratching my head at how many references to msm influenced ideas still prevail along with the notion that the POTUS controls the country.
