Double Standard?

When the Ghomeshi debacle hit the news people here were outraged that even though his behavior was an open secret on the grapevine no one did anything.

Now it's Weinstein and the press is full of condemnation of all the people who knew and did nothing. Again, open secret.

When the NDP found out that two MPs were guilty of sexual harassment and predatory behavior doing nothing was defended. No one here had any problem with the NDP sweeping the whole thing under the rug even though it was an open secret on the grapevine. So much so that the woman who told Trudeau assumed he must have heard something.

So which is it? When people in authority find out through the grapevine or are told by employees they have been molested but the employee doesn't want to press charges should they do something or not?
