ALERT- TORONTO, ONTARIO- SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2017- ISLAMOPHOBES AND FAR-RIGHT GATHERING AT 7H00PM

On Sunday, Decmber 3, 2017, the Far-right Jewish Defence Leage (JDL), in association with the islamophobes ACT for Canada are planning a showing of the infamous « documentary- Killing Europe at the Zionist Center, 788 Marlee Road, at 7h00pm in Toronto.This film is a major propaganda tool used by the Far-right and its allies to promote hate against Muslims and immigrants.

As we showed in an earlier article, this a film featuring major Islamophobic and Far-right advocates from Europe in an attempt to develop the Far-right Agenda,;

In Ottawa, on November 25, 2017, the film had been scheduled to be shown at the Ottawa Public Library. A strong community response was organized by Ottawa Against Fascism, the Council of Canadians, Solidarity Ottawa, Sancturay Ottawa and the Ottawa CUPE District Labour Council among others, and local residents outraged by the event and the rental by the Library.

EVENT CANCELLED BY THE OTTAWA PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Board of Ottawa’s Public Library cancelled the event. After seeing the 3-minute trailer of the so-called « documentary » and receiving a very large number of messages from residents and activists, the decision was made.

As Stated, in the Ottawa Citizen, November 24, 2017, by Councillor Tim Tierney, chairman of the library’s board of directors,

“I am letting you know that I have been working with the city solicitor about concerns brought forward by the Ottawa district labour council, unions, residents, board members and friends,” Coun. Tim Tierney, who is chairman of the library’s board of directors, said in an email. “I had asked the CEO to review and address the concerns expressed.”

I can now report that the rental of the room will not take place.”

Coun. Catherine McKenney, another library board member, said Friday she “wholeheartedly” supported the library’s decision to cancel the screening and promised better discussion in the future about what the library chooses to allow.

In a french interview, Councillor  McKenney said, ( our translation);

When you look at the content of that film, this goes against our policy. We will not rent venue to groups promoting discrimination against a group and this showing clearly contrevene our existing policy.(…) Intolerance is growing south of the border but also in our cities. We must take a stand against this hateful and intolerant content.

NO PLACE FOR HATE IN TORONTO

We must support a large community response to this meeting promoting hate and Islamophobia. The meeting is also supported by the Canadian Coalition of the Concerned Citizen(CCCC) as well as some Islamophobic organizations in Canada. The JDL and Act for Canada are trying to hide in a private venue. This should be opposed by all members of the community. A strong message should come out to stop the spreading of hate messages in our communities. We hope the Center will cancel the event, but we must mobilize all sectors of the communities in Toronto to ensure the event is cancelled. A strong and United Community response is the only answer to defeat hate and intolerance.

Thanks for posting this. It seems like JDL just gets to keep going on and on...
