Charlie Pierce has written a piece about the whining at the U.N. by ambassador Nikki Haley over the fact that a vast majority of member states were about to vote against the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.
If this administration* feels so put upon by the rest of the world, let it have the guts to pull the country out of the U.N. entirely, and do it in the open, and not through clumsy threats and angry laments about the ingratitude of it all. Did we lose the vote in the General Assembly? Of course, we did, 128-65. You get someone dependent upon what you provide, and then you threaten to withhold it if that person doesn’t do exactly what you say. That’s not how a great democracy acts. It’s how drug dealers do business.
It rather reminds me of Randy Newman's 1971 song Political Science, which is an eerily accurate description of the Trumpian world view.

Now that the Syria issue has been won by Syria/Moscow/Beijing/Iran, maybe the focus will shift to Palestine/Israel/Lebannon. Perhaps China is going to take the lead role opposite of the US. Syria conflict required a more brute military push appropriate for Moscow to take the command. Beijing, although possessing superior military strength than Russia, probably felt it more cunning to maintain a diplomatic perception. And now will use their elevated status as willing diplomats with economic brute force for leverage in cohersing compliance.
I suspect China is going to dangle a few carrots in front of Israel. And at the same time make it clear to Israel that they better take their generous offer because Israel has a lot more to lose than China if Israel wants to play their games. What tells me this is the desire of Beijing to help Palestine develop renewable energy sources and infrastructure. This means that China is planning on sending Chinese nationals and investment to Palestine. Now as we all know, Israel has a serious track record of blowing up infrastructure in Palestinian! If China sends millions of Chinese investment and nationals to Palestine, there's going to be Chinese military vessels less than 100-150 km away in the Mediterranian sea protecting their people and investments! It sounds like China is almost asking Israel to go ahead and take the first punch so that they can send in the big guns.
NDPP keep an eye out for Chinese military/naval activity in the Mediterranian sea. But maybe it's nothing?

Why would Trump have Jeffress who says the Jews cannot be saved take part in the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem? Because Trump, who has 80% support among evangelicals, is using the move to cement the evangelical vote among his base primarily, and only secondarily courting Jewish and Israeli support.
