A controversial UN resolution against President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital has passed 128-9

Trudeau Government decided to remain neutral, and Canada rep at the UN voted to abstain.

NDP Jagmeet Singh has blasted Trudeau government for not opposing the move tweeting

"The Trudeau government's refusal to condemn Trump at the #UNGeneralAssembly is embarrassing By abstaining from today's vote, along with our recent refusal to condemn illegal settlements, the Trudeau government is working against any chance for peace & justice in the middle east"

While Conservatives Andrew Scheer blasted the Trudeau Government for not supporting the move tweeting

"It's shameful that the Liberal government refuses to stand by two important allies in Israel and the United States. Canada is abandoning our international friends and aligning itself with UN member states that in some cases have been hostile to Israel's right to exist."

Now it is your turn. Oppose, support or abstain.

This proves how dangerous the Conservatives are.

This is something the US should be abandoned for. Let them look like fools by the rest of the world.

I was very disappointed that the Liberals only abstained. At least they didn't vote like the Conservatives wanted,I guess.

I'll never fully understand why the Right has such love for Israel. To the point where they are or at least seem to always put Israel ahead of their own country. Pathetic.

But I was very happy that the NDP stayed true to their principles. Singh has reason to blast Trudeau. Scheer doesn't.

The Liberals did the predictable thing and stood solidly in the middle. Sad.

Israel divides and weakens the region, thus helping entrench U.S. political, economic, and military power there. It's the same role Israel played on behalf of Britain and France in the 1950s. Ultimately, it's the reason all the Great Powers supported the establishment of such a state.

So nobody wanted the heavily-persectured Jewish people to have their own land?   It's all JUST about malicious control which yields little benefit?

Yes indeed.

The British government which issued the Balfour Declaration in 1917 did so out of profound humanitarian concern for Jews. Likewise with the end of the British mandate in 1948, and the U.N. vote (over the objections of every country in the region, who were no doubt motivated by hatred of Jews) to carve out Israel and Palestine. These were the same sponsors (including Canada) that denied refuge to Jews just before and during, and to a signficant extent even after, the Nazi genocide. When Egypt nationalized its own territory (the Suez canal), the British and French again helped the long-suffering Jews by inciting Israel to invade Egypt. Likewise in 1967, only this time it was the U.S. which had assumed the leading role of protecting world Jewry against persecution.

The U.S. holds that title to this day. Their love for Jews is palpable, it's all-embracing, and above all, it's undiluted by any crass colonial or economic or geopolitical concerns. Or oil. Donald Trump, who has even allowed Jews to join his family, is the finest example of this century-long historical evolution which (almost) saved the Jewish people from annihilation in the 1940s and will surely guarantee our survival, in peace, liberty, and sovereignty, for many years to come.

Thanks for setting the record straight.

Given our imperfect knowledge of the world, I'd propose this as a cipher for the three parties: the NDP (hopefully, although unprovable since they haven't actually had power) wants to do good; the Conservatives want to do evil; the Liberals think goodness would be good, though evil would be nice too so, er gosh, best just go with the flow...
