Honestly, I think if you and your fellow counterparts want to separate from a town, province, country you should be allowed to. Negotiate with the regional powers and discuss terms for separation.
Create a state/community/system that you can survive on your own or with other alliances.

That is the question, how to get there? I have nothing against freeman, cities or provinces that want to separate.
I think it is everyone’s right to determine their own lives and actions.
I believe the world would be better off with city-states and smaller nations.
