Is the current USA President a Russian 'asset'?

It appears Mueller's investigation is just warming up.

There are even rumours out there suggesting that Fox News is being investigated by the FBI.

If the current USA President actually is a Russian 'asset' does it not make sense that he would be doing everything in his power to shut Mueller down if he can?

Trump has frequently praised the Russian leader and expressed the desire to foster closer ties with Russia. The two also share similar views on numerous topics, like the media and the ongoing Russia investigation.
Clapper said Putin appeared to be using his past experience and training as a KGB officer in "managing a pretty important account," referring to Trump.

Why are investigators interested in Stein? The environmentalist, an advocate of better relations with Russia, has been a Kremlin favorite since her first run as the Green Party's presidential candidate in 2012. She has regularly appeared on Russian state-owned television, including RT, and famously sat across from Russian President Vladimir Putin at a 2015 gala dinner.

"The Russian embrace of Jill Stein was anything but subtle," said Andrew Weiss, a Russia expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. "Russian state propaganda outlets like RT had a field day with her strident attacks on the U.S. political establishment, and they seemed to work hand in glove."

Clint Watts, an NBC News analyst who has been tracking Russian election interference at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, said that Russia's intelligence agencies "sought to play both sides of the political spectrum to elevate Trump and turn down turnout for Clinton."

I think it might be the case that the Russians wanted Trump to be a Russian asset, and Trump wanted to be a Russian asset, but the deal never actually got formally consecrated. Which doesn't neccessarily rule out that illegalities might have taken place.

As for the Greens, I'd probably agree with a lot of their critique of US foreign policy, but things like holding their candidate's debate on Russia Today probably didn't help their credibility. (And if you think that makes me a Russophobe, what would Canadians think if the Conservatives held their leadership debate on Voice Of America?)

And, not that I don't enjoy the topic, but couldn't this have been integrated into the RussiaGate thread?

I don't think that Trump is likely to do particular things, execute particular policies, that might forward Russia's interests as a great power. However, his presidency is likely to weaken the United States as a power centre, and it increases the chances that government of the people, by the people, for the people will perish from the earth, which suits Putin just fine.

To be honest, I have always taken him to be way smarter than to pull a ham-handed stunt like this - one which reveals his vulnerability more than anything. Forbes Magazine has named him the world's most powerful man for four years in a row, and here he is whining about people not listening to him. Do you seriously believe that?
