So glad they are pledging to deprivitize Ontario Hydro.   This is ground the PC's will fear to tread, and I didn't think the ONDP would be so bold.   Good on them, and this platform gives me some grounds for optimism.

What will that look like?  A buy up of shares?

Well so much for public auto insurance. I’m guessing that’s long gone with Bob Rae now. Buying back Ontario hydro is good. Does Ontario own OPG(Ontario power generation) and what of the smaller hydro companies ?

This is much better than what happened last election. Public auto insurance would also be good. Works well in Manitoba.

Looking at the surprisingly successful Sanders and Corbyn campaigns, I think there are some points in common. In each case, 3 or 4 key promises were repeated over and over. Each promise had several characteristics:

  1. Popularity. They all polled above 50%.
  2. Simplicity. They were all things people could easily understand,
  3. Immediacy. They were all things that would make an immediate impact on the lives of voters.

I suspect that universal dental care, re-nationalizing Hydro One, and student grants rather than loans all fit that profile. However, I don't have actual polling data, so I could be wrong. Anyway, I think this means the ONDP may have produced a reasonably optimum platform, certainly much stronger than anything they've had in the last 20 years.

Agreed! Boring as it sounds, repeating the same message over and over and over can win elections

Good ship NDP taking on water. Stupid idiots have IVR to filter out all calls except from people they know (who can spell name of contact). This includes the media, any members, even donations. Everyone.

Let's get real this is not an emergency: this is the NDP scuttling the ship.

How friggen stupid. What will they spend trying to talk to people in a few weeks when they do not take their calls now?

Yes, go to the Green party site. There is a number. They will answer. They have less money but apparently more brains in running a party, campaign, office.

BTW, anyone who understands elections also understands the function of major holidays when families get together. When an alection is near it often comes up. They definitely would want to speak to as many people as they can before such a holiday.

I have a lot of complains about them, but gotta admit that's never been my experience, I've always gotten a human.

Three times this morning. Not far apart between 10:45 and 11:30. Definitely them as the IVR identified them.

Now if reception is busy there should still be options to get to a department rather than only named individuals.

Ok - I just tried again. I did get a live person now. He says he will look into the issue of the company wording and the lack of call management for anyone who did not know a person to direct the call to. Let us hope that they resolve this.

The rest of the conversation was encouraging.

"If you know the extension of the person you wish to reach, please enter it now, followed by the pound sign.

If you know the name of the person you wish to reach, please press 2 now, to use our automated directory.

If you're not looking for anyone in particular, but have some things to get off your chest and need a human to hear them, please hold and the next available operator will take your call in priority sequence".

You are forgetting media, members etc. They need that.

Unfortunately the NDP`s dental plan is not universal, it is a two-tiered system whereby those on social assistance and seniors who do not have retiree dental benefits will receive their dental care at community health centres.  There are only 13 such clinics now, but an NDP government would invest in more.  This is not a progressive policy in the least, and I am totally opposed.  There should be one universal dental-care system for all Canadians.

I obviously hadn't looked into the details of the policy enough. After doing more reading, I agree with your points, and regret that this policy is so lame.

Mr. Magoo

Here's what the CBC has to say.

But I'm not seeing anything about having to be on social assistance, or anything about "community health centres".

Badriya, what intel do you have to share?

No worries.  But now that you have, can you tell us more about the social assistance or the community health centres if Badriya cannot?

Here is a link to the pdf of the dental care plan.  https://www.ontariondp.ca/sites/default/files/dental-care-for-everyone.pdf

Here are some relevant quotes taken from the document. Apologies for the formatting.

We are committed to ensuring that seniors and social assistance recipients are able to receive

publicly-funded dental care at a local dental clinic or at a Community Health Centre, Aboriginal

Health Access Centre, or public health unit.

At least 29 Community Health Centre and Aboriginal Health Access Centre locations already

have dental suites that offer some level of dental service. However, services depend on whether

sufficient funding is provided by the LHIN or public health unit and whether volunteers are

needed to staff the facility.17 An estimated 13 of 36 public health units also have full dental

suites.18 These facilities and health care practitioners have important expertise in providing

services with dignity to vulnerable and low-income people – and must form an important part of

the future of dental care in Ontario.

To expand access to services at Community Health Centres, Aboriginal Health Access Centres

and local public health units we will make targeted capital investments of at least $25 million to

build and expand dental suites and purchase and operate mobile dental buses, especially in

rural, remote, and Northern communities. This investment could fund seven new dental buses

and 70 public dental suites, and has been recommended by the Ontario Oral Health Alliance

That's a far cry from universal dental care. But I can see the reluctance to go the distance. The backlash from dentists and private insurers would be huge. Not that that's right but it would be a challenge.

I would make no such assumptions. I have heard many dentists support this. There are good reasons for this -- inlcuding the economic benefit of expanding the customer base to include any who cannot affor it now. I am sure there are dentists who do not agree for political reasons but the idea of opposition such as that of doctors generations ago with medicare is unrealistic. I have read many documents urging this policy from dentists organizations.
