So older voters are turning to the Cons.   What a joyful news for the NDP???

Trump represents American nationalism, I assume, but what type of nationalism does Ford represent?

I'd say Ford represents "Nostalgia Nationalism".  He fights for the nation of the past-the imagined Utopia of low taxes, patriarchy and social repression that his followers see as "the good old days"-never mind that those days never really existed and weren't good for much of anyone but bazillionaires.

NorthReport

Also shows challenge for LPC as we look to 2019. Need higher youth turnout + youth support to counter growing CPC support among older voters.

I think that's a pretty stretched usage of the word "nation" there. You could just as easily use the phrase "kingdom of the past", and say that Ford is a monarchist.

In Notes On Nationalism, Orwell uses "nationalism" to include things like political Catholicsm and Trotskyism, but even there, he confines it to distinct groups to which people give allegiance.

Liberals are to be blamed for this. Ford people's premier. Can Trudeau even come close to that. He can take his sjw stuff home after the next election. We are on the verge of a revolution. Go NDP

If only had the Liberals been good at governing. Casey gone to Detroit. Another loss to the US and Trudeau wants us to believe that Canada stands a chance under his so called leadership. Liberals are finished. And NDP is the future. Liberal partisans will spin this into a victory lol

Okay, so you're calling Ford the "people's premier" branding JT with the right-wing pejorative "sjw", citing a pro-Ford editorial in the Sun to support of your position, and then finishing it all off with "Go NDP"?!

LPC doesnt stand a chance. NDP will take the youth votes this time. Charisma is on Singhs side. CPC can keep the older voters and NDP will take the youth. LPC left with nothing.

People should not get excited about this. The election of Ford is a benefit to the Federal Liberals and increases their chances in the next election.

Anything unpopular Ford does will help them

Unpopular Wynne government is no longer a drag on them.

Ground resources and political talent does not have to be shared.

-- There is a theory of alternation between federal and provincial governments -- this is why.

You cant be serious. Your theory is good for the past, but this not business as usual anymore. We are seeing a seiemic shift on the canadian political scene.

These are extraordinary times. The NDP just had a major breakthrough in Ontario. The ghosts of Rae have been exorcied. Watch for the repeat of these results in the federal election as Singh is from Ontario. And Canada is ready to throw these Liberals to the curb as the Ontarians did.

You think the ghost of Rae is past? That might have made the difference in the NDP not winning against a party that did not even provide a costed platform.

So no I disagree with you and am absolutely serious.

For the NDP to make gains in the next election they will need substance at the federal level. I have seen this movie many times before.

Yeah well I have seen seismic politcal shifts before. This is how they go.

I have read enough posts, in this and other threads, to come to a hypothesis about gadar's recent string of relatively outrageous posts. He/she has decided that they've had all of North Report that they can stand, and they're going to create an even more annoying and extreme version of N.R.'s posting style.

Addressing these posts as if they were seriously meant in their overt form would be a mistake. Instead, just read them and chuckle in awe at the amazing parody of a parody.

Andrew Scheer just kicked Maxime Bernier out of the shadow cabinet.

It'll be wunderbar if the Conservatives by chance happen to find themselves with a huuuuuuge majority in 2019 while the LPC gets nothing and are thouroughly wiped off the map forever and ever amen! Whoooopeeeeeee! It's a hard but good and true fact of life that you have to liberally break liberal eggs to make liberal scrambled eggs on conservative toast! I truly wish it weren't so!

Oh yeah, It'll also be really, really, really, really, really, really, great and groovey having Singh's NDP do really, really, well in the 2019 election and become her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the second's official royal opposition! What an accomplishment!

One can wish. It will be a breath of fresh air to see the brilliant Mr Singh take on PM Scheer. And I can guarantee you that Mr Singh will come out on top every time. Same cant be said of the trust fund baby PM.

If this is true, then this is the classic definition of being a troll. Posting for reaction rather than content and without any interest in the discussion. Why is that allowed?

The other trolling tactic that is the concept that they should get to choose who responds. This is a public place and you do not get to decide that only fawning and aggreeable posts get to exist in response to whatever stuff you put out.

And the problem here is that it is wrong to make assumptions that a person is not being sincere and that you can't take their posts at face value. This is the reason trolls are booted becuase other poeple in a reasonable rules-system are supposed to accept things to mean what they say. Once you start having to second guess people's games you ahve no way of having a discussion -- just a pile of accusations, some true and some false about the intentions behind the posts that can no longer be discussed.

NorthReport

Maybe it is time for Canada to have a serious supply management discussion!

For Conservative MP Maxime Bernier it was just a matter of time

Start booting the trolls I will be the first to cheer that. There has been spam and trolling going on on this site for almost a decade now. People who disagree with a viewpoint are just called Liberals, and they are patronised with crap like get used to losing and learn to lose with class. I have not seen the outrage for that trolling. Trolling is accepted as long as it is finished with cheer for NDP and a smear for the Liberals. I am doing the same thing that has been going on.

I am just trying to fit in man, I thought that was the way of things around here.

Liberals get decimated in an election and now all they can do is whine about it and how life is treating them unfairly.

Meanwhile a realtor threatens NDPers by suggesting they should be shot and not a friggin' peap here or anywhere else in the mainstream media.

Sorry but my heart doesn't bleed for the poor Liberals self-inflicted pain.

My heart bleed for Doug Ford, the poor guy will have to face Andrea Horwath as the opposition leader. He will wish that he had never run.

If you do not like the trolls then instead of becoming one -- object to them.

All this does is justify them.

And I do not have a brand of troll that I like either as I have no more taste for them when they come in an orange colour than when they are red or blue.

Trust me I have done my share of objecting, has not worked. An example is just a few posts upthread. It has just become acceptable. Other posters have objected, all it got them was labels and patronising crap.

Here is something to think about Gadar. Think BC, but instead of a Green/NDP coalition think Liberal/NDP both provincially in Ontario and federally. So yeah, go Singh. Scheer won't get a majority. NDP becomes king-maker.

That's too bad but contributing to the problem by being the same thing is also not a solution and it really is not respectful to yourself to behave like something you dislike just to prove a point -- at least for any period of time. Becuase then that is what you become. While some say responding to the trolls contributes to the problem it is not more annoying than becoming one and at least the objection is still there. I doubt that it is less work either.

You are better than this anyway.

Notley is Fake NDP to begin with, she has more in common with the Pipeline King, so Notley can be Pipeline Queen all she wants.

She is at odds with the federal NDP and its leader Jagmeet Singh, so to hell with a wannabe Liberal.

Singh for next PM, go NDP!!!!!
