NATO vassal states suffering Stocholm syndrome

So, NATO is completely antithetical to the interests of Canada and Europe, but their leaders stay in, and even go into panic mode when the head-guy threatens to kick them out, because of some personal psychopathology being enacted on a mass scale?

At the very least, you might want to consider that, far from being helpless victims incapacitated by Stockholm Syndrome, the political class of the "vassal states" actually have a rational self-interest in remaining in NATO. Whether that amounts to a rational self-interest for the entire populace of those countries is another question.
