I think one of the more memorable slate breakers was Jean Claude Parrot winning an executive spot on the Canadian Labour Congress.  Of course union members do have a soft spot for leaders willing to go to jail for them.

A referendum is a cop out sorry for the pun but politicians are there to make decisions.  It is already way too late for the Surrey First political clowns like Diane watts and Linda Hepner and the RCMP who have failed miserably in dealing with Surrey violence Anyways anyone affiliated with Surrey First should be shown the door in the upcoming Surrey municipal election this October

Quote:

It refers to the practice of voting for fewer candidates than the number of positions up for grabs.

It's a way of concentrating votes around the one or two people you really want to win.

OK.  What's the problem with that.  Am I not allowed to only want one or two people to win?

In the interest of disclosure, I'm not a Vancouver voter, so don't mind me.

But when did it become more democratic to tie multiple electoral choices together (e.g. an omnibus bill that would both guarantee sufficient government funding to house everyone, and also legalize child porn)?

Apologies for the extreme example, but geez, what if we could choose each separately, eh?

I thought I spelled out the for and against (building a cohesive representative team vs picking the best individuals and letting the chips fall where they may).  Remember this is not a general election, just the nomination meeting within a political party.

This is serious shit. Too bad the left will screw things up again!

Maybe someone should change their name to Wai Yuong and run in the election, sort of like how "James Green" ran alongside Jim Green in 2005 election where the NPA's Sam Sullivan won via vote splitting. How many people thought they were voting for the famous Jim Green instead of the relatively unknown James Green?

Talk about mislabeling with the clear intent to deceive gullible voters: NPA stands for 'Non Partisan Association' but is anything but!

One of the 21 candidates, former NDP MP for Burnaby South, and Independent Kennedy Stewart leads with 36% of the decided voters, and today Stewart will receive a boost to his Vancouver mayoralty campaign.

Can anybody describe where Hurley, the new Burnaby mayor, is on the ideological spectrum?  He supported a moratorium on future demovictions, which sounds fairly progressive.  Is he going to be open to actually using some of the massive budget surplus Corrigan seemed to be pointlessly hoarding?

Corrigan's party took every Council seat except one, so this question might be better directed at those who control the Council
