A chastening week for Justin Trudeau in his relationships with Indigenous People and with the U.S.

Justin Trudeau has long said he wanted his prime ministership to be judged by how he handles two big relationships — with the United States and with Indigenous Canadians.

The Prime Minister may well remember this week as the one when those words truly came back to bite him.

Not just Canada's Pipeline King, but all of us Canadians. Just shows how far out of touch the Liberals are.

Justin Trudeau is hoist with his own pipeline

It’s a rare — perhaps unprecedented — day when so many government priorities come crashing down or are badly bruised with one court decision.

That was the case Thursday for the Justin Trudeau government when a Federal Court of Appeal brought the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline on the British Columbia coast to a screeching halt.

Trans Mountain pipeline ruling shakes central pillar of Trudeau agenda

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau painstakingly explained to students in Kapuskasing, Ont., how the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project is a central pillar of his government's agenda.

Less than 24 hours later, the Federal Court of Appeal quashed the government's approval of the project, imperilling the pillar holding up Trudeau's signature promise to tackle climate change by balancing economic growth and environmental protection.

Moreover, it underscored a gap between rhetoric and action when it comes to Trudeau's oft-stated vow to make reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples his top priority.

As I understand it both the Liberals and Conservatives have tag-teamed destruction of consumer protection in Canada. I would not say that this is just Liberal legacy but really a shared one.

The Liberals were hoping to sweet-talk opponents into accepting their agenda. They were never willing to subject this agenda to real consideration and real consultation with Indigenous people.
