This MP is a laff riot.

CBC wrote:

Alleslev cited her concerns over the government's handling of the economy, foreign affairs and trading relationships, and what she calls inadequate military spending, as the reasons motivating her to jump from the government benches to the Tories.

Alleslev, a graduate of the Royal Military College and a former captain in the Royal Canadian Air Force, held senior positions at the Department of National Defence, IBM and aerospace manufacturer Bombardier before seeking the Liberal nomination for the Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill riding in 2014.

"My attempts to raise my concerns with this government were met with silence," Alleslev said in a speech in the House of Commons announcing her move. "It's my duty to stand and be counted. Our country is at risk. The government must be challenged openly and publicly.

"To my Liberal colleagues, thank you. But my oath is to country, not party and my sacred obligation is to serve my constituents."

Stop, Leona, you're killing me. I'd say her sacred obligation is to the arms manufacturers who are her past and future employers, not the country or her constituents.

quizzical

my thought is if she is throwing around "sacred" in reference to herself then God and her constituents wanted her to be Liberal.

but it's proof the Liberals and Cons are interchangeable.

It's my duty to stand and be counted.

Good to know where she stands on the long-form census.

Quote:
Our country is at risk.

"Sadly, at this time, neither I nor my new party can say any more about this grave and immediate risk.  But we call on all Good Canadians, all True Canadians, all patriots, to stand unquestioningly behind us as we do what must be done to counter this risk."

Quote:
The government must be challenged openly and publicly.

"Unless and until my new party forms government.  After that, google 'sedition' before asking awkward or unwanted questions."

Sedition: Any distortion of the view through a LPC™ lens. You're welcome.

Obviously Liberal heads are exploding as we speak. The speech given by the traitor is much more compelling than the CBC reporting of said speech but also much less approachable to muckchucking than the CBC article.

If this MP had bolted to the NDP, tails would be wagging here and prosaic sentiments nowhere in sight as the faithful waxed poetic.

Mutiny is in the air as the incumbent imbecile runs out his options or, more likely tanglefoots himself in his own petard.

The latest dumbflummery at the Saskabush Chiefs grip-n-grin is enough to have the caucus crossing the freeway on foot, if not the commons. The village idiot's virtue signalling runs afoul of Indigenous folk who have the temerity to not only not communicate their concerns in less than thirty seconds but to actually show up, setting back his tight schedule and, horrors, potentially interfering with his next 'personal' day.

Since he can't dress up in a breechclout and feathers, how can he show the learned Justices how good he is at trusted, good faith consulting and stuff when the Indians actually show up and drone on and on about their problems instead of asking about his socks and taking selfies.

Mr. Magoo

Got any "Liberal stuffs" you need to get off your chest?

Well, first of all, as has been debated here many times, the NDP doesn't accept floor crossers. But if they did, I can think of few babblers who would be happy to have this warmonger in the NDP. Jagmeet and some of his very sophisticated pals might find her appealing, but not too many here on babble. Of course that is just my opinion, and I could be wrong.

'our country is at risk' No,our democracy is at risk because of cretins like you,Leona. If you want to change party affiliates, resign and wait until the next election and run as the candidate of your party of choice.

As for parties being interchangeable, the whole bunch of them are. How about the Bloc? How about New democrats crossing the floor to become Liberals? They are all interchangeable.

This is something that shouldn't be allowed. And it's a betrayal of their constituents. If I voted for candidate A to represent party B and they crossed the floor to party C, I would be incensed. Hopefully her constituents will show her the door in 2019.

Nope, I'm good to go although the lack of progress or even "truth" at the Truth and Reconcilliation Commission is causing some undue fermentations in the lesser parts of the old turnip.

Well.......actually, since you were kind enough to ask.......I remember when there was a rumour that then PM Chretien was going to attend a ceremony regarding the N'isgaa settlement. People came from all over and started cooking and baking like crazy. Chretien didnt show up but it impressed on me the importance indigenous folks attached to such an appearance.

For the present PM to smarm on and on about indigenous reconciliation and then stiff the Saskatchewan folks with a 40 minute window to hear their concerns when it takes the old trout running the TRC  2 years just to find her way to the can is most disrespectful and very telling about our Prime Dolt's priorities.

With greatest apologies for straining the bounds of sarcasm-challenged ettiquette, I shall now refrain from adding further to your burden of political regrets.

why do you opine that she is a warmonger?

Michael Moriarity

It seems pretty clear to me from the excerpt that I posted. Her career arc has been from Canadian Forces to National Defense, to IBM then Bombardier, both defense contractors. Her only specific complaint is inadequate military spending by the government. If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...

Ah! A woman with an engineering degree = warmonger. I am reminded of the words of Benjamin Franklin: "Those who bend their swords into ploughshares end up ploughing for those who don't".

I am also somewhat concerned by the latent misogyny of your attack on this woman by misrepresenting her words. You don't criticise her speech, you slag her through the lens of the CBC's bias.

Michael Moriarity

Piss off, Martin.

Hmm. The impression given goes from warmonger to gun-in-hand. A woman shooting equates to laughter from men who need to 'duck' because, well...........whats she doing out of the kitchen anyways?

I am reminded of the words of Robert Browning: "Ah, but a (wo)man's reach should exceed his grasp, Or what's a heaven for?"

We all have hidden prejudices and unintended biases. Should we not ferret them out in order to be better persons? The sounding board of babble certainly allows me to comb through the errors of my ways to be a kinder individual although still extremely socially-challenged.

I'm a bit mystified by this move, military procurement under Harper was just as chaotic. I'd like to know what Scheer offered to close the deal.

the fact she didn't "bolt to the NDP" and went to the Cons says a bunch of stuff about her imv and none of it's very good.

It is what it is, no apology necessary. I readily admit to various and sundry opinions that I am an asshole, including my own but, in my defense, I am much less of an asshole than I was previously, thanks to the many interventions and exorcisms performed on babble over the years.

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

But deserting a party of smug, rudderless dillema- junkies deserves no mention? And, isnt your post 'anti-woman' itself.

Plenty of warmogers in the ranks of the NDP already. There quite a few ex-military types in the NDP ranks.

Even Jack Layton wanted to be a warfighter. He was a sailor for a few days on a frigate.

Not to mention his rousing endorsement of NATO reversing decades of NDP policy contra. With a sop to the peaceniks. 'We're going to change it from within!'

Don't forget about Dawn Black and her feelings about the war

my mom is NDP and was in the military but she isn't a supporter of war.

my issue with her is her joining a men's party to feather her own nest.

Nobody was saying she's a warmonger because she has a damn engineering degree.  She's a warmonger because she wants Canada to massively increase war spending.  And everyone who would say that about her says it about any male politician who takes the same position.

Ah! A shunning, how novel. Obviously not a progressive tactic, more like censorship of views you don't agree with.

A stout and ready exorcist

Shunning all non-socialists,

But disavowing thoughts of war.

War spending? Liberal heads are exploding because a Liberal has defected. The whole war quibble is a red herring to cover the angst members of the Natural Governing Party are going through at the reality that the Emperor has no clothes and even the backbench placewarmers know it.

I'll hoist a tankard to Jack. He should have been PM. The NDP went straight down without him. RIP, Jack, you are sorely missed.

It isnt as much of a 'men's party' as it was before she joined. Perhaps this crossing will inspire more women to run.

If you are so sure Trudeau will win the next election, how is this supposed nest-feathering going to occur?

But she wasn't a 'warmonger' as long as she was a good Liberal, huh?

And I agree with Michael and Ken. We all know what she is and what her ultimate motivation was. You're prancing around trying to shame people who are merely exchanging facts. You are just spreading arrogance and condescension.

If that's all you are going to add to trhis conversation,.turn to a new thread or I hope the moderators take care of your trolling ass.

Oh, the irony of such comments from your good self, the General and sundry members of The Committee for Public Safety appearing here only to slag your humble servant, one Martin N.

You complain most bitterly about my additions to the matter at hand while offering no contribution yourselves, only the usual "give 'im a fair trial and then hang 'im" double standard of the cabal self-appointed hall monitors - Unionist being the prime example.

All you do is expose the rot in forums such as this where diverse opinions are not welcome because they offend thin-skinned prigs who dont like to be challenged.

Considering the extent to which the cabal attempts to enforce its shunning of non-certifed cabal opinion, whether or not anyone is banned will make little difference to the crickets chirping.

A healthy society needs open, rigorous debate, not sheep-like uncritical devotion to stale ideologies and unfathomable anti-war concepts.

Have a pleasant day, allan.

LOLOLOLOL.. OK,troll called Martin N.

I DID contribute to the thread. I said no one should be able to cross the floor. I said she should resign and run for the party of her choice in 2019. I also wished she ends up getting the boot from her constituents and those who voted for her in the first place since she's betrayed their choice.

And as what was stated by Unionist,Michael and quizzical. She did so because she thinks our military is under funded and she is trying to feather her nest.,Which makes her both a hypocrite and a warmonger All these opinions I agree with.

So having said that, you have a good one too, Marty.
