I've seen some reporting suggesting that the Republican demonization of the caravan is backfiring, and I sure hope that's the case and we see the results of it tonight.

Well, I think it's probably safe to say that there is more Canadian media coverage of the caravan, who as of yet have not been expelled from anywhere, than there is of the people who are being expelled from Canada. And Rikardo is saying that this is because Trump is a headline-grabber, whereas Trudeau and company just don't get that kind of attention.
That said, the Canadian government hasn't threatened to use military force to get the 10 000 out of Canada. Though I suppose if they all refused to leave, things could get pretty rambunctious.
Canada could and should admit these people, especially as their exodus is largely due to imperialist and economic policies imposed by wealthy countries like Canada. This must stop and it is a developmental task of Canadian progressives to mobilize to end these destructive foreign policies by their government. As well, those who make it here must be accommodated.

Given the existing woeful conditions where I live as a poor person in Toronto, minimal affordable housing, sky-rocketing rents, a labour market and manufacturing jobs decimated by 'free-trade', austerity policies and a social system in tatters, unless there is a massive change in the provision of resources to meet this challenge and ensure adequate support for the newcomers and those most impacted, this planned influx will be nothing less than catastrophic.
