13 people dead, reasons as yet not fully known. Their deaths should be mourned by all, are mourned by all here as far as I can see, and are mourned as deeply as the victims of any other mass killing anywhere.
The greatest tragedy in this mass killing is that one of the victims survived the Las Vegas massacre, only to die in this one.
We need to do something about guns. We need to do something, as well, about whatever the hell has gone wrong in the minds of a hell of a lot of people.

And no, there's nothing wrong with people's minds. The U.S. is a toxic society where its armed agents at home murder minorities, the poor, protestors, anyone, with impunity. And its armed agents abroad have the blood of millions on their hands - millions whose crime is getting in the way of imperial ambitions. Until these two problems are addressed, why would citizens act differently from their figures of authority?
In the meantime, we should work on eliminating firearms from our urban areas, and all handguns period, in Canada. At least we have some hope of getting there. There's nothing we can do to help those who won't help themselves.

being fair i read that 27 NRA backed candidates lost. the most ever since they started backing candidates.

It should be pointed out that Ken started this thread about the mass murder first; I saw the other because it was at the top of the page and had no reason to think there was an earlier one farther down.
