How Dumb Can Hudson’s Bay Management Be? ‘Make Canada Great Again’
How incredibly stupid and callous.
The Bay seems to be selling more and more shoddy merchandise and silly extreme "fashiony" closing, which doesn't seem to conform to their customer base.
It was pretty poorly thought out, for sure.
At the same time, people really need to stop imbuing a hat with such magical powers of threat and harm.
As stated in the article, HBC has now pulled the items. Though, of course, they did so after getting a deluge of angry e-mails from the offended. Presumably for the same reason that CBC decided to re-instate Baby It's Cold Outside, after having previously decided(for reasons that remain somewhat murky) that it was offensive and should never be played.
IOW, possibly more just a victory for the ability of one side of the culture wars to get a ton of e-mails sent off, than for any consistent vision of what society should be like.

Well, this hat doesn't have any magical powers either, but it does signify a great deal about the person wearing it. That said, I don't think these hats need to be banned from The Bay; they provide a wonderful "ahoy, asshole walking here" flag so I can tell whom to avoid.
Odd product to sell? Even more earily freekish Hudson Bay, one of the main and original colonial imperial corporations invading this land. And the slogan is a rip off of a political campaign.
My toque does not have any magical powers designed within it but I do and will continue to wear a pink rectangular toque for as long as the orange ferret is in office.
