Forum on China-Africa Cooperation FOCAC

Don't expect the western corporate media to inform us about this very important event!

https://www.focac.org/eng/

The above link is the official one and has lots of info for those interested.

Here's another interesting link I found

https://www.odi.org/comment/10674-focac-2018-what-expect-next-weeks-chin...

This link mentions the industrialization of African nations. I almost found this to be an odd statement? Western nations are only interested in extracting resources from Africa and using aid packages to ensure further extraction. Whereass the Chinese approach is to help develop infrastructure and industrialization so that the Nations on the African continant can develop diversify their ecomies.

Mr. Magoo

WWWTT, is it true that one country in Africa got no invite because that country recognizes the independence of Taiwan?  And if so, what's your thinking on that?

WWWTT

I think you have it wrong?

The Taiwan government is not seeking independence from China. I believe you are referring to diplomatic ties. And the country is Eswatini (Swaziland). They still have diplomatic ties with the Chinese province of Taiwan and not China.

Should also point out that 53 of the 54 African Nations will be at this summit.

Another side note would be that Canada does not have diplomatic ties with Taiwan.

So, like if France had diplomatic relations with Quebec, but not the rest of Canada?

Of course.  I just thought that if one African country were left to freeze in the dark over some political mumbo-jumbo then maybe there's more to this than altruism or a desire to help.

I guess China won't be asking for any resource extraction, yes?  That's for the U.S. to crave, but China wants nothing, yes?

WWWTT

I don’t think a country can send a diplomatic envoy without first establishing an open diplomatic relationship?

As far as resources go, yes I believe China is seeking to help develop resource extraction. Did you actually believe China was going to give people money for nothing?

But from what I have read, the infrastructure resource and industrial investments China is making are long term investments and will take many years if not decades to see any substantial returns.

This is where China stands apart from Europe US. The west is only interested in quick profits. And a self reliant Nations of Africa don’t fit into the western equation where African Nations are always on the brink of collapse, leaving the door wide open for western nations to come right back and extract with lucrative profits.

But it doesn’t look like you really care Mr Magoo. In Canada nobody really cares what goes on in Africa and that a real shame.

No, not at all, and that's totally why I asked.

Here’s a thread I started before I went to China earlier this year.

Note the lack of interest from babblers.

I thought I should dig it up because now, all of a sudden, it appears China Africa relations are of interest to babblers. I’m sure that the accusation of China acting as some kind of new age “colonial power” is just a coincidence?

Here’s another I found without ssa. Not an easy task!

Here’s a term that really should be central to all of this “sloppy journalism”. Here’s another link. Read and you be the judge!

Thanks for posting this. It makes quite a convincing case for your point of view.

Here’s a link VOTD posted in another thread

And yes, it is racist for a Chinese news outlet for using ssa! Did you think I would be comfortable with it? Did you think I’m brainwashed like most other Canadians? Would it make feel a little better if I was?

I went through a lot of links trying to find ones that don’t use racist terms. Now I suspect a lot of people writers etc are not aware that ssa is a racist term.

Thanks for taking the time to read the link MM!

Here’s a good link worth the reading

Later in tonight when I get the chance I’ll edit this comment to explain why this link is in this thread

sorry but I had to edit the link out because of a racist term I found in it.
