My passive aggressive point was that Svend went to jail for aboriginal rights. Trying to paint him as not an ally of first nations is just silly.

Thanks for the clarification.

Is Svend eyeing the leadership of the NDP?

Former NDP MP worried about state of the party amid return to politics

Former NDP MP Svend Robinson says he is worried about the state of the party he represented in the House of Commons for over 20 years.

"Am I concerned about the state of the NDP? You bet I am. I can read polls like anybody else can," Robinson told reporters in a press conference Friday.

... Robinson said he still has faith in Singh’s leadership and accused reporters of driving a narrative.

"I’m saying the mainstream media too often drinks its own bathwater," he said.

He drew a parallel between Singh and former NDP Leader Jack Layton, claiming that the media initially failed to take Layton seriously.

"That guy, Jack Layton, became an incredible leader that Canadians loved and respected and would have become prime minister. And with great respect, I say you’re wrong today. Give Jagmeet Singh a chance to show his stuff in Quebec and outside, and Justin Trudeau – watch out," Robinson said.

However, when asked in French if the NDP should afford Singh the same number of years the party gave to Layton as he developed as a politician, Robinson said: "No, no, absolutely not."

As for his own NDP leadership aspirations, Robinson said he wouldn't answer a hypothetical question.

"I would be proud to serve in a caucus with Jagmeet Singh as leader," he said.

But Robinson didn't rule out a future leadership bid.

"Down the road, many things could happen," he said.

Considering that Robinson's previous antics within the party have had the potential to alienate people who would otherwise agree with him on policy, I am very impressed with the professionalism he has demonstrated since coming back into the spotlight. He is very intelligent and knows politics. He must know that the NDP is in serious trouble, otherwise why speak out now? Especially since much time has passed, along with a decline in engagement in politics, he must also know that in his former riding, many people will ask, "Svend who?" Yet he's keeping egos and personalities out of this. He is relentlessly focusing on the issues that matter. He is also refusing to join into speculation around leadership issues because he knows how damaging that would be to the party, regardless that these issues are on everyone's mind. In short, I think it could serve as a model for striking the balance between being loyal to the party and what it represents without being a mindless robot.

(Oh my, did I just compose a post in praise of Svend Robinson? Times truly have changed.)

Sounds like Svend may not be singing exactly the same lines as Jagmeet Singh:

Quote:

NDP candidate Svend Robinson is standing firm in his opposition to any new oil and gas infrastructure, despite NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh's support of the B.C. liquefied natural gas pipeline.

"I oppose any new oil and gas infrastructure, including that particular one," Robinson told Evan Solomon when asked about the B.C. LNG project on an episode of CTV Question Period, airing Sunday.

"We're probably going to have to leave a lot of the oil and gas in the ground if we're going to meet these targets. We owe that to our children," he said.

Not sure how to start this comment? Here goes.

Intil Jag gets his seat and goes into the general e and comes out with more seats(mid 40’s and up), then we’re going to hear lots of mix messages from the NDP. This could also be a new NDP strategy. Let Jag be the straight guy with the wishy washy statements that mean nothing and let the MP’s make the heavy lifting comments. In this case Svend

I don't think deliberately having a wishy-washy leader and sending mixed messages via candidates (remember, Svend isn't an MP!) counts as "strategy".

Barbara Kay: Svend Robinson Set to Boost Israel Hate in the NDP

"As the NDP's foreign affairs critic, his lack of balance and seeming indifference to to Palestinian terrorism during two intifadas was noted with scorn by such notables as Bob Rae. And yet today Robinson's leadership prospects strike me as excellent..."

LOL!! Big Zio unhappy with SR's return.

I love how she says the ring issue is "water under the bridge", but leads with it anyway.

Well, at best we get to see how the board's participants line up on the Zio issue. Svend appears to think his side's opinion will be positive. I would tend to agree, and also, it's anti-Con!

Monto get to the campaign headquarters, your party needs you on E-day.

Thank you, that sounds like you are acknowledging I'm an NDP supporter and not a Liberal!

Maybe I will so I can renew some old aquaintances?

No one was actually CALLING you a Liberal.  You are not being ganged up on and nobody's persecuting you here.

I'll be o.k. without your reassurance Ken. Kropot and co. aren't the majority anymore on this board, but him and his accomplices still piss me off a bit. We'll work it out!

Ken Burch

What do you see "the majority on this board" as being?  You seem to think you represent something new and intrinsically superior to whatever the others on this board stand for, but what, exactly, is it that you feel you represent?  And why have you come in here and taken such a confrontational, dismissive tone towards everyone else?  It would be nice to know what your history is and why you seem to have such a sense of entitlement when it comes to whatever your precise political perspective is.

You're not going to get much purchase here by showing up as a newcomer and acting as if everybody else should defer to you.

Hi Ken, I admit I called him a Liberal. Kropotkin called him a fake NDP supporter suggesting he is a Liberal. The reasons are his perspective of what the NDP is for, that the NDP's job is to stop the Conservatives (at all costs meaning survival included). Also his contention that the Liberals and NDP are some kind of left that you do not want to divide. If you really believe we are all on the left why vote for the weaker part of it? If NDP survival is not the priority and no costs are a concern in keeping out Conservatives, then how can you claim the NDP is the one you are supporting?

It is not a question of stated loyalty -- it is a question of a worldview incompatible with one that could support the NDP other than as a strategy to help Liberals.

I do believe based on recent posts that he may be a federal Liberal and provincial New Democrat in BC since he claims to be voting in Nanaimo so he may be more misrepresenting than lying here. But there is no indication that he understands any reason to support the NDP.

I am acknowledging what you call yourself. Personally I think you are a run of the mill troll with a very limited understanding of a broad range of subjects. If that sounded like an insult its because it was an insult. You have from day one been in everyone's face and your posting style is classic dodge and weave trollism.

If you were a sincere poster who wanted to talk about your great vision of socially responsible capitalism you would have defined it and posted articles about it. In the meantime since you have done neither I have to presume that it is merely a tweak of our capitalism in the 21st century and thus is the most imperialist and virulent variety humanity has been subjected too.

Ya actually montgomery is a liberal hack. I called him one earlier and am doing so again. I've read his posts on other forums. Believe me, he is. Unless he was only posing as one at that other forum? kropotkin is only toying with this hack. I get it lol! montgomerey does write and post some good stuff, but please, pass the salt!

I think we put too much emphasis on whether people are active supporters of parties. Most Canadians do not belong to political parties. I was a member of the NDP for many years so I fall into the 10% or so of Canadians who have actually joined a party. I currently do not belong to a party and have not belonged since Bill Siksay chose not to run again. I couldn't care less whether Monto is a NDP. Liberal or Conservative supporter I merely try to respond to what he writes. Unfortunately his writing is filled with insults and misinformation.  Since I respect that he is an intelligent human being I presume he is a troll otherwise I would thinks he was uneducated and poorly read.

Only 11 per cent of Canadians have ever been members of a federal party in the last ten years; further, only about 2 per cent of Canadians are currently party members.

I stand corrected about people calling montgomery a Liberal.  And I'm not sure at all that it's a false accusation, given his arrogance and his expection that everyone should simply defer to him and-as he sees it-his intrinsically superior wisdom.
