Since February 14 is coming up, I was wondering if anyone has ever said these kinds of things to you (just ignore the commercial plug at the end).

A friend sent me a suggestion to celebrate Cook's demise on Feb 14th instead. Makes sense to me.

On February 14, 1779, Captain James Cook, the great English explorer and navigator, is murdered by natives of Hawaii during his third visit to the Pacific island group.

The real story of February 14 is even grimmer:

Quote:

According to the official biography of the Diocese of Terni, Bishop Valentine was born and lived in Interamna and while on a temporary stay in Rome he was imprisoned, tortured, and martyred there on February 14, 269 AD.
