Syrian air defense systems repel air attack on Damascus’ Duwali airport – Russian military
Syria’s air defense systems have repelled an attack by Israeli F-16 fighter jets on the Duwali international airport in southeastern Damascus. Seven missiles were downed, a spokesman for Russia’s national defense management center said on Sunday.
“Air defense forces of the Syrian army have repelled an air attack by the Israeli air force on the Duwali international airport in the southeast of Damascus,” the spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, the Pantsir and Buk air defense systems hit seven Israeli missiles. “No damage has been done to the airport’s infrastructure. No casualties or damages have been reported,” the spokesman said.
The air strike was delivered by four Israeli F-16 fighter jets from the Mediterranean Sea at 13:32 Moscow time. Guided aircraft missiles were used.
Earlier, SANA news agency reported that an Israeli air attack had been repelled in the south of Syria.

Israel, Syria and Russia scaled up their contest over Syria. On Sunday, Jan. 20. Israel made a point of striking Damascus airport in the face of a Russian warning, while Syria launched a missile against Israeli Golan and Moscow issued bulletins on the state of play.
This was Israel’s first air strike against a Syrian target since Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi’s took charge of the IDF last week as new Chief of Staff. It was also rare in that Israeli warplanes operated in daylight. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, four Israel Air Force F-16 fighters flew in from the Mediterranean to attack Damascus international airport. Syrian air defense weapons, which the Russian DoD confirmed this time, were Pantsirs and Buks, were launched against the Israeli jets and the missiles they dropped, claiming to have intercepted 7 missiles. These bulletins flowed throughout the incident from Russian spokesman to local correspondents.

The US has lost Syria to Russia/China. The only thing being accomplished by the US is the ongoing slaughter of the Syrian people and the Islamic freedom fighters who oppose US occupation.

Great read. I have followed Sharmine Narwani's coverage over the years. I agree with this quote.
Journalists were not dupes in this conflict. Western journalists covering Syria were, for the most part, believers in the liberal order, U.S. exceptionalism, interventionism — these people are hired because they think that way. They quote their governments’ statements unquestioningly, despite the lies of Iraq, Libya, Vietnam, etc. They are fundamentally uninterested in the legalities of warfare — the U.S. and U.K. bombardment of Syria, the establishment of military bases there, the funding and arming of terrorist groups — all of it illegal under international law.
A number of Western journalists who dared to probe deeper were sacked, silenced or smeared. I know a couple of journalists who lost their jobs. The Huffington Post stopped publishing my work once I started reporting from inside Syria — and then a year or so later, they quietly removed my entire archive from their site. Other mainstream journalists who questioned the Syria narratives were badly smeared — by their colleagues, quite shockingly — which made more than a few of them back down, write less, tweet differently. The intimidation tactics by our peers have been relentless in the coverage of Syria.
In short, Western media helped to stage and grow this conflict. I no longer think journalists should be treated with a special kind of immunity when they get a story this wrong, repeatedly, and people die in the process. I prefer to call them “media combatants,” and I think that is a fair and accurate description of the part they play in wars today.
