It was a gloomy, typically chilly late-February afternoon in the West Bank village of Beit Ummar, between Bethlehem and Hebron. The weather didn’t deter the children of the Abu-Ayyash family from playing and frolicking outside. One of them, in a Spiderman costume, acted the part by jumping lithely from place to place. Suddenly they noticed a group of Israeli soldiers trudging along the dirt trail across the way. Instantly their expressions turned from joy to dread, and they rushed into the house. It’s not the first time they reacted like that, says their father. In fact, it’s become a pattern ever since 10-year-old Omar was arrested by troops this past December.

Israeli occupation forces arrested a 22-year-old Palestinian woman at a military checkpoint in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron after she posted a comment on Facebook on Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Isra’a Hammad Abu Sneineh was detained at the Abu Al-Rish military checkpoint near the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron.

According to the Asra Media Office, Abu Sneineh was arrested at the military checkpoint located at the main entrance to the Old City, west of the Ibrahimi Mosque, as a result of a Facebook post she wrote about Al-Aqsa Mosque.

According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Centre (PPC), Israel had arrested more than 500 Palestinians, including women and children, as a result of their social media posts by May last year.

The occupation state uses its “Cyber Unit” to monitor Palestinian social media posts, the centre added.

House Democrats have introduced a new bi-partisan resolution opposing the boycott of Israel, known as BDS, and reaffirming their support for a two state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. On Thursday afternoon, Republican Representatives Lee Zeldin and Ann Wagner joined Representatives Brad Schneider and Jerrold Nadler in support of a resolution “opposing efforts to delegitimize the State of Israel and the Global Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement targeting Israel.”

WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Thursday that the United States should recognize Israel’s authority over the Golan Heights, one of the world’s most disputed territories, reversing decades-long American policy and violating a United Nations resolution.

The president’s announcement, in a midday Twitter post, serves to recognize Israeli sovereignty over land that its troops seized in war. It came after repeated pressure from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, which claimed the Golan Heights from Syria in 1967 and effectively annexed it in 1981. The United Nations Security Council declared in that Israel must withdraw from territory acquired by force.

Students at Brown University voted Thursday to call on the school to divest from companies that allegedly violate human rights through their work in Israel.

Some 69% voted for the measure in a campus referendum, with 31% opposed. Students were asked whether the university should ““divest all stocks, funds, endowment and other monetary instruments from companies complicit in human rights abuses in Palestine.” Around 44% of the student body participated in the vote, which also included student government elections.

Many Jewish students expressed their disappointment in the result. “This referendum is a defeat for all students who believe there is a better way to pursue peace between Israelis and Palestinians, who seek intellectually honest discourse about Israel and the conflict, and who prioritize a safe and inclusive community at Brown,” the group Brown Students for Israel said on their Facebook page.

But the group Brown Divest, which also included some Jewish supporters, was jubilant. “Today is a historic day for Brown as we take an emboldened and clear stand against the university’s complicity in human rights abuses in Palestine and in similar systems of oppression around the world,” the coalition said in a statement.

University president Christina Paxton said that the school would not abide by the referendum’s results. “Brown’s endowment is not a political instrument to be used to express views on complex social and political issues, especially those over which thoughtful and intelligent people vehemently disagree,” she said in a statement Friday.

Brown had been the site of several Jewish- and Israel-related controversies over the past few years. In 2016, anti-Israel student activists protested a talk at Hillel about “Jewish Journeys” featuring then-Jewish Agency for Israel chairman Natan Sharansky and actor Michael Douglas. Later that year, many students petitioned for trans activist Janet Mock to drop out of a scheduled talk at the school because it was co-sponsored by a Hillel-affiliated group. Mock later bowed out because of the controversy.

According to the Forward College Guide, 1,000 Jewish undergraduate students attend Brown, comprising around 14% of the overall student body.

Two Palestinians were killed and dozens of others injured, including an Anadolu Agency photojournalist, during a Friday rally along the Gaza-Israel buffer zone, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Anadolu reports.

In a statement, ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra confirmed that two Palestinians — aged 18 and 29 — had been killed by Israeli army gunfire.

Ali Jadallah, an Anadolu Agency photojournalist, was also reportedly injured during Friday’s demonstration.

Jadallah is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

A UK publisher has condemned an attack by masked men in Gaza on a Palestinian writer and political figure, Atef Abu Saif, accusing the assailants of deliberately breaking his fingers.

Comma Press, a not-for-profit publisher that worked with Abu Saif, said that the beating on Monday night had almost killed him.

“He was hospitalised with a broken leg, broken arm, fractured skull, and lacerations to his face and upper body. Most notably, the assailants broke his fingers in right arm – a recognised punishment for writers,” Ra Page, founder of Comma Press, said in an email.

“We’re all shocked and appalled by this turn of events,” he added.

Netenyahu won the election in part becuase he won the argument for requirements for coalition. Israel has second class voters. It pretends to offer political power to Arab parties while making sure that there would be a taboo on them having any actual "king-making" power.

The Arabs in Israel have seats but have been made untouchable when it comes to coalition building. The accusation against Gantz that he would take power with the Arab partners was so dangerous to Gantz that he declared that he would only work with Zionist Jews.

The refusal of Israelis to accept Arab parties have effectively made it impossible for anything but the right to win.

With this statement, it was no longer possible that Gantz could build a coalition. He either would not be able to offer the numbers or would be working with the Arabs so would be rejected by any partners other than Meretz and Labour.

The reason Netenyahu clings to power is becuase of the exclusion of the democratically elected political representatives of non-Jews in Israel that was promised prior to the voting.
