Imperialist Corporate Media versus Main Stream Media

I was asked to clarify this term so here goes.

I don't like the term MSM! The western media is relentless in its constant never ending white noise, defeaning, blinding, blotting out reality in itself and replacing the truth with a fantasy created with the intent that you will never reach its goal. Intended for the masses to follow, promoting a distraction, glorifying greed and materialism.

Everything I write has to be a metaphorical slap in the face so you shut up and listen! (maybe not always?) So I invented the term Imperialist Corporate Media (ICM).

To this point, I have bein ridiculed and praised here on babble for my creation. So a mix bag. Good news is, I haven't been banned or warned over it. Or is that bad news?

You haven't been banned or warned for the simple reason that you're not violating babble policy. You don't habitually abuse other babblers, post right-wing propaganda, make transphobic or anti-feminist posts, that sort of thing. People rarely generate warnings from moderators here and even more rarely get banned. I would suggest that babble moderation is more relaxed now than it's ever been. People don't have to agree with each other or even like each other here on babble, but progressive content (whatever that means to individuals and there are plenty of opinions on that) and a commitment to disagreeing with a modicum of respect are important. babble has changed opinions, moved people further to the left and offers, I believe, the full range of what can be construed as progressive.

Keep posting what you you want with the expectation that folks will praise or ridicule what you write. If anyone gets too nasty and I don't catch it, feel free to message me and I'll ban them immediately. Just kidding.

I have no problem with the use of the term “imperialist corporate media” but I think it’s rude to only use the term “ICM” as it’s a term very few people know of or should be expected to know of. I think it’s only polite to use an acronym by itself after it has become relatively well known.

I would have no problem if it was stated as:

“ICM (imperialist corporate media)”

I will continue to use the term mainstream media (msm) because unfortunately it continues to be so. It is also corporate and imperialist  as for instance WaPo, NYT, The Glob or  the MI6 mouthpiece The Guardian. So ICM is quite alright by me.

Thanks for the input JKR (And everybody that has commented as well).

I believe that this thread is to also clarify the acronym ICM. Spelling out Imperialist Corporate Media as opposed to icm does have more impact that I’m looking for, but it’s lengthy.

Pondering

I see that it underlines the point that the MSM is corporate controlled but I don't think it can overtake MSM as shorthand for dominant or major media outlets. It could also turn people off conversations because changing the term we use can come across as distracting from the conversation or annoyingly manipulative.

For whatever it's worth, I was the one who suggested that WWWTT do this thread.  The term "ICM" seems to me to have great potency, and WWWTT is simply using this thread to clarify what the acronym stood for.  He's not flouncing or complaining about anything or asking for special treatment, he just took my advice and tried to clarify.  Seems to me we should support and give each other the benefit of the doubt in such things.

I agree.
