Green MP Paul Manly Ready To Go To War With NDP

This all sounds a bit like Revenge

Paul Manly said the NDP’s proposal to retrofit all homes in Canada by 2050 so they are more energy-efficient isn’t ambitious enough—the Greens would do it over five to 10 years.

He accused the NDP of “abandoning” its principles by voting to support Canada’s deployment to war in Libya in 2011, and for backing a trade deal with South Korea that includes an investor-state provision that many on the left oppose. He also slammed NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh for expressing support for the $40-billion LNG Canada terminal in B.C., a facility that will be fuelled by the Coastal GasLink pipeline opposed by Indigenous nations, and will export natural gas that is extracted by the controversial “fracking” process.

“This was a wedge issue for us in the election,” said Manly. “The NDP, depending on where they are, are either supporting oilsands expansion or fracked gas.”

It doesn't sound like "Revenge" to me (although maybe there is a bit of that, which Mulcair earned), as much as it does an obvious campaign tactic. The Greens are showing strength in various places across the country, while the NDP is showing weakness pretty much everywhere. The Greens see NDP voters as their likeliest supporters, and are going to do their damndest to pull as many NDP votes to their party as possible. Frankly, I think the Greens are going to have my vote this time around, too.

I posted this link in the thread about Elizabeth May pitching for NDP votes, but if you think Manly doing the same thing deserves a separate thread (I didn't) I'll post it here as well:

Once an 'orange diaper baby,' Manly begins life as a Green MP

Unfortunately, the Green Party, like the NDP has a history of pro-Israel anti-Palestinianism, partly in fear of the powerful and influential Israel lobby which gets distinctly nasty towards even mildly critical voices.  Just look at Jeremy Corbyn as an example of what can happen. Let us hope Manly can find his voice on this. It is desperately needed amid the shameful all-party pro-Israel choir that currently dominates politics in Ottawa. It is more than outrageous that Canadian 'progressives' continue to tolerate the lack of even one principled, critical voice on this.

"My message to those on the National Demonstration for Palestine in London today. We cannot stand by or stay silent at the continuing denial of rights and justice to the Palestinian people."

You can if you 'represent' Canadians. Demand your representative change this now. Tell them you'll  not be voting for them otherwise. Stop collaborating and voting for Apartheid Israel by proxy.

NDPP - Manly isn't going to do that. As per the link in my last message:

'BDS, Israel and Palestine is not an issue for me'

Manly’s father boarded a boat to Gaza in 2012, with a stated mission of bringing humanitarian supplies. Before it could land he was taken into custody by Israeli authorities and held for five days before being released.

Manly wrote a letter to the NDP that expressed disappointment with the party’s lack of support over the issue. He says he was blocked in 2014 from running for the NDP based on what he had written.

In 2016, the Green Party became the first federal party to endorse the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, but the party later attempted to distance itself from that endorsement. Its current policy handbook, Vision Green, calls for “an end to the collective siege of Gaza” but does not mention BDS.

“I support the Green Party policy. BDS, Israel and Palestine is not an issue for me,” Manly said on Friday, after National Observer asked him to state his position on the matter.

“It’s not something I’ve ever campaigned on. It’s not something you’re going to see me speaking on. A lot of people confuse me with my parents. I stepped up to defend my father back in 2012, because I was the only family member available to do that.”

Thanks R.E.

And so there are none...
