Good news. He won't get elected by copying Trump.

And Trump will never be elected president.

And Ford will never become mayor.

And Jason Kenney will never become the premier of Alberta.

And so on.

It's true I overestimated Americans. I did not think so many of them could be so deeply ignorant.

Ford didn't win because he was a Conservative. He won because the Liberals were long in the tooth and the NDP untrusted.

I am not at all surprised that Kenny is premier. Alberta has been right wing for decades if not forever. The surprise was that Notley won at all. I feel sorry for Albertans because I think they are in for a very rude awakening and will have hard choices to make. Albertans are accustomed to saying if you want a job, move. Not so accustomed to hearing it. It seems separatist sentiment is very high out west. They think Quebec got all kinds of concessions out of being separatist so why shouldn't it work for Alberta and Saskatchewan? It probably would if they wanted the same things, like control over immigration, but they don't. They think the threat of separation will get them a pipeline. It won't.

Scheer is no Harper. A more saavy politician could take Trudeau just not Scheer this election. Like Mulcair, Scheer doesn't have good political instincts or doesn't follow those who do. Canadians are not hawks. We tolerate military action but we don't like it.

FWIW, I think Paladin1 was referring to the other Ford.

If we needed any evidence that pundits are desperate for something to talk about this is it.

But can we believe him? Since when do politicians always keep their word, eh!

'Typical Liberal desperation': Scheer insists he won't reopen abortion debate

The Opposition leader is fending off claims the Conservatives would reopen the abortion debate

Judy Rebick, a Toronto writer and veteran pro-choice activist, said she doesn't believe Scheer, and women's rights activists need to be on their guard.

"We have to be vigilant," Rebick said. "We have to make sure they know how strong women across the country, including in the Conservative party, feel about our right to abortion."

Judy Rebick is absolutely right. Under the Harper regime, they let all sorts of US-inspired private members bills get presented in the House of Commons. We spent endless hours trying to torpedo their efforts. This newest shit show in the US will only embolden the Conservative caucus, especially when so many members/MPs are closely tied to the US anti-choice movement.

Canada's Conservative Leader Lays Out Right-Wing Economic and Foreign Policy Agenda

"Amid a sharp shift to the right within the Canadian bourgeoisie, including increasingly shrill attacks from big business on the Trudeau government for not fully imitating Trump's tax cuts, Scheer's pledges to step up military cooperation with the US, intensify Canada's aggressive stance against China and Russia, and gut social spending at home have received a warm reception from the corporate media.

However, the largest portion of Scheer's remarks were directed at fulminating against China. Canada-China relations, declared Scheer, require a 'total reset'. Underscoring that Scheer, following Trump's lead, wants to put Canada on a war-footing with Beijing, he designated China as one of the three main threats to Canada's 'security and prosperity in the 21st century'. The other two threats he named were Russia and 'state sponsors of terrorism' of which he claimed Iran was the prime example.

Scheer's demand for an ever more aggressive stance towards China enjoys the backing of important sections of the ruling class, including Canada's two most influential national newspapers, the Globe and Mail and National Post. This faction is pushing for an escalation of the highly provocative line taken by the Trudeau government, which, following on from the previous Harper Conservative government, has integrated Canada into the US military build-up in the Asia-Pacific and last year agreed to revamp NAFTA to make it a more explicitly US-dominated protectionist trading bloc, with China as its foremost target.

Then in December 2018 the Trudeau government served as Washington's appendage in a dramatic inflaming of tensions with China by arresting Meng Wanzhou. Canadian authorities are in the process of extraditing Meng to the US on trumped up fraud charges arising from Washington's illegal sanctions against Iran..."

As always some Canadian liberals caught up in this toxic msm propaganda offensive are increasingly gulled into believing and supporting these dangerous xenophobic elite hostilities and agendas.
