This one is from Debka, but the news over preparations for war are across the board, what with the institution of total sanctions vs. Iran by the USA....this thread will try to disclose more updates...please ignore the bs propaganda of Debka, understandably coming from Israeli Intelligence people

DEBKAfile adds: The rocket, whose explosion was heard across southern Israel, was deliberately aimed by the Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian proxy of Tehran, (sic!) as a threat to the passage of shipping to one of Israel’s two main cargo ports. Its deep-water facilities handle the largest volume of cargo containers of either port, as well as cruise ships. A US Sixth Fleet destroyer visited the port last year.

This southern port is within range of Palestinian rockets from the Gaza Strip, whereas Haifa port in the north can be threatened by Iran’s Lebanese surrogate, (sic!) Hizballah. Just as last month, Palestinian terrorist groups acted out their threat to Tel Aviv with high-precision missiles, in April they have shown willing to back Iran up in retaliating for the new round of US oil sanctions that go into effect on May 2.

Iran’s reprisals do not have to be direct or extreme, such as the closure of the Straits of Hormuz or Bab al-Mandeb to oil shipping. Shutting down Israel’s important southern port would suffice for starters.

Haifa could come next. Hizballah recently established “resistance militias” comprising Hamas activists enlisted in Lebanon’s Palestinian refugee camps. They too stand at Iran’s disposal. The rocket which exploded harmlessly in the sea on Monday night carried this message: Iran has the resources to blockade Israel’s two main ports, one of which holds an Israel Navy headquarters, and both of which are visited by US Sixth Fleet warships.

Israel and the US Mediterranean fleet are clearly in Tehran’s sights, especially since last Wednesday, April 24, when the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier and its strike group of 10 warships took up position opposite the Syrian coast. Monday’s rocket may be the harbinger of further “events” centering on the Mediterranean shores of Israel, Lebanon and Syria.

The effort on the part of the Trump administration to shut down Iran’s ability to export oil is predicated on the false notion that the rest of the world will fall in lockstep with U.S. policy. But has President Donald Trump really thought through what would happen to the economic health of the world if Iran retaliates, shutting the Strait of Hormuz, through which much of the world’s oil flows daily?

The Trump administration’s push to reduce Iran’s oil exports to zero has entered a new, critical phase, with the United States refusing to extend the waivers it granted six months ago to eight nations, including China, India, Turkey, Japan, and South Korea, to purchase Iranian oil. Moreover, the United States has refused to allow for a “wind-down” period where impacted nations would be able to gradually wean themselves away from Iranian sources of energy. This means that, effective May 1, any nation purchasing oil from Iran will be subjected to punitive U.S. sanctions.

Iran has responded to the American decision not to extend oil waivers in typical fashion, with Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Command (IRGC) naval forces, warning on April 23 that “if Iran’s benefits in the Strait of Hormuz, which according to international rules is an international waterway, are denied, we will close it”.

This threat was clarified the next day, April 24, by Iran’s Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, who declared“ships can go through the Strait of Hormuz,” noting that

“if the U.S. wanted to continue to observe the rules of engagement, the rules of the game, the channels of communication, the prevailing protocols, then in spite of the fact that we consider U.S. presence in the Persian Gulf as inherently destabilizing, we’re not going to take any action.”

Curious to see if India will still be purchasing Iranian oil. At this point I suspect they will. I’m sure that India sees the US move as a huge interference into their own affairs.

I predict that these US sanctions are going to hurt the US in the mid to long term. More and more countries will only turn away from the US further isolating them.

Two staffers on Iranian Revolutionary Guards publications reported on Tuesday, May 14 that the Israeli Golan is Tehran’s next target after its attacks on UAE and Saudi oil infrastructure. Hamed Rahim-Pour, international editor of the Khorasan daily and Amin Arabshahi, a senior reporter for the IRGC’s Tasnim news agency, wrote this on Tuesday: “All our options are on the table; the [Saudi] port of Yanbu [on the Red Sea] and also the [UAE] port of Fujairah [in the Bay of Oman] were attacked. [These] two ports are meant [to supply oil] to replace Iranian oil! They received such a blow that they didn’t see where it came from.”

The two journalists went on to say: “The scope of the {US} war against Iran should not be defined only by gigantic US aircraft carriers, or {its] strategic bombers stationed in Qatar or the F-35 fighter planes. The range and scope of the possible war against Iran may be defined by quiet infiltrations of Fujairah, Yanbu and Golan, and dozens of other points in the region.

DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources disclose that last week’s missile attack on Saudi Arabia’s main western oil terminal of Yanbu, which went unreported by the US or the Saudis, was in fact the opening shot of a series carried over this week to two more Iranian attacks on oil infrastructure – the sabotage of four oil tankers outside Fujairah port and the explosive drone attack on two Saudi pumping stations on its east-west pipeline. Washington and Riyadh have avoided explicitly naming Iran as the culprit or even linking the three episodes. Two IRGC mouthpieces have now admitted who was responsible and furthermore revealed the order of the “blows” on Tehran’s agenda. Israel should therefore be prepared for the Golan to be next in line.

US military sources revealed on Monday that pro-Iranian Shiite militias have been armed with three types of rockets for attacking the Golan and US military bases in eastern Syria and western Iraq: Short range Fatteh-110, Zelzals 2 and 3 and the Zulfikar, which have a longer range of 700km.......

The White House is set to mull a Pentagon plan for deployment of 10,000 new troops to the Middle East on Thursday following heightened tension with Iran, the AP reported Wednesday.

It's as yet unclear whether President Trump will sign off on the full number, but the White House is expected to send at least some of the requested forces, the report noted, citing anonymous defense official sources.

According to the Associated Press report the plan calls for "defensive forces" to "monitor" the Iran threat:

War with Iran is not the same as war with Iraq. It would be unwinnable. Iran has far more influence and allies than Iraq had and is a far larger country. It has a far more supportive population - there is no great seperatist movements. Iran controls critical sea routes.

Much as I would like to see the US get its ass kicked, I hope that saner heads prevail.

This impending tragedy must be stopped. Back in 2003, a hundred thousand Americans gathered at the Washington Mall to protest against the drive to invade Iraq. Nothing like that has developed yet, but the people must rise up to demand that the government cease and desist from doing things in their name that do not help a single American but instead only bring death and destruction. Trump promised to do that when he ran for president. It is past time that he fulfill that promise.

The worldwide effort to stop the invasion of Iraq in 2003 had to be the pinnacle of my limited experience of participating in marches and protests. And this was with so many cowed by the events of 9-11. The previous highlight was the marches on Seattle during the WTO meetings. Anti-war rallies since the Iraq and Afghanistan debacles have been non-existant. Libya, Syria, Yemen... the region is torn apart with the western powers either directly or indirectly being involved. I have no idea of how people will be galvinized to stop foreign interventions that are just on the horizon.

...the author suggests, as I¨ve been reading elsewhere, that Trump is threatening to fire Bolton over his extreme bellicosity vs. Iran...yet Trump was forced to appoint Bolton?

No doubt Trump is totally unstable and directionless in his policies both international and domestic...so the question remains......who is providing the direction for the greater wars in the Middle East?
