Does anyone know, have heard rumours or wish to speculate on who the NDP candidates may be for Mount Royal or Outremont. Compared to 2015 and 2011 it seems completely quiet. Maybe there is some "big anouncement" that is about to happen? I guess that I'm just "out of the loop".
NDP Candidates - Mount Royal or Outremont?
At current polling numbers there is no way the NDP is retaking Outremont, much less making a run at a Liberal fortress like Mount Royal. Perhaps Julia Sanchez will have another go at it but I'm guessing the candidates here will be sacrificial lambs doing a favor for the Party and/or just trying to raise their profile for other things later on.
Which is a pity. Liberal bot in Outremont (which includes many areas far poorer than the borough of Outremont). That was a very strange campaign as the urban riding was a sheet of ice. I had to take the bus to work there when normally it would have been ten minutes' walk.
I'm not much of a politico. I live in Mount Royal and follow the NDP casually. I voted for the candidates here in 2011 and 2015. It seems like they were real campaigns with lots of activity months in advance. The election is only four months away and I haven't heard anything. I was impressed by the previous candidates (Jeff Itcush and Mario Rimbao) and even helped them out. I see Itcush in passing, but he doesn't even mention the NDP. I wonder if this lack of enthusiasm is specific to Mount Royal, but then I haven't heard anything about Outremont either.
The last thing I want is a useless federal election, which is among other things "a waste of our tax dollars" - usually a right-wing saying, but in this case the money could be better used for other purposes such as restitution for harm done to Indigenous peoples or measures to fight the lethal climate crisis.
I don't think the Liberals could win here in Rosemont - La-Petite-Patrie but alas the Bloc could.
I'm in Outremont. If Lascaris were leading the Greens, or any eco-socialist, I would vote for them, but I cannot vote Green with Paul as leader. If she is deposed before the election I might vote Green but otherwise I will vote NDP to at least give them a number if not a win.
