And Debater,

That At Issue segment that you linked was very telling and alarming. They addressed the possibility that the NDP lacks the staff to be able to make basic inquiries such as the question of how many NDP candidate hopefuls defected to the Greens.

If this is the case that the NDP have had to drastically cut their staff then perhaps Jagmeet Singh failed to travel to New Brunswick because the party could not afford for him to travel.

Wouldn't he have some sort of travel budget as an MP that he could rely on to go around the country?

Misfit you hit the nail on the head about campaign preparedness.

Winning campaigns realize the campaign begins the day after the previous election

And never mind all the nonsense about star candidates Leave them for Canada’s 3 right-wing parties, the Liberals, the Conservatives, and the Greens.

I’ll take a candidate who will put on some running shoes and starts knocking on doors as soon as possible after the previous election anytime over some primadonna candidate who thinks they are above doing the hard work that is usually required to win

And the Liberals are also farther behind on candidate selection this year than they should be -- including in some ridings that they currently hold or have a chance to win.

In fact it's a common practice for the Liberals to hold off the nomination meetings for sitting MPs seeking re-election until after the start of the campaign. So just looking at the numbers doesn't tell the whole story.

Pondering

Campaign preparedness covers a lot of different actions. The election itself is determined in the last week or two. That will be from October 7th to 21st. That isn't for another 3 weeks. Where the numbers are now tell us where most of the decided votes are going but tell us nothing about what people who tune in at the last minute will think. It also doesn't tell us if any particular demographic will show up at the polls or not. Will youth and indigenous people turn out? If they do will they still support Trudeau or might Singh flip them? At the moment I am confident that Scheer isn't going to win which means either a majority or minority Trudeau government. People aren't happy with Trudeau. If they aren't feeling the threat of Conservatives there is a good chance they will go NDP in the hopes of a minority government.

It matters not if the Liberals promote strategic voting or not. They didn't do it last election and I don't believe they will do it this election either. People don't need to be prompted to vote strategically. I hope the NDP stays away from that tactic this time as it screams "loser".

There are other candidates who could be added for sure. I only listed the candidates I know something about.

But they all have one thing in common which is also one good reason that the NDP nominations have been slower than in the past: ridings are required to carry out a diversity search now, and those searches have led to some strong candidates who might not have had a look-in in yesterday's NDP.

I'm sure the imperialist corporate media wouldn't like it if many people started calling it out.

More importantly, you should, at least, work from the assumption that everybody who posts from a left perspective ON THIS BOARD is an anti-imperialist.   I'm not including the Liberal partisans in that, obviously, but everybody else who's actually on the left here should be accepted as an opponent of empire.

Chantal Herbert is by no means a Liberal hack anf you have no provenance for that assertion, WWWTT.  Aside from being, in my view. the most incisive journalist in the country (though Campbell Clark gives her a run for her money as an out-and-out neutral  with a good brain) , she is perhaps the only one who has the level of insight/foresight that would be necessary to actually run a national campaign, whereas most journalists are tut-tutting Monday morning quarterbacks.

I have always thought that Chantal leans social democrat, if anything but is also resolute in calling it as she sees it.  The  very last thing Chantal Hebert is is anyone's lickspittle - and yes, she works for the Toronto Star, which has several times in memory endorsed the NDP, unlike any other broadsheet.  By your rationale, WWWTT, Tom Walkom, Rick Salutin, Sara Mojtehedzadeh and Tanya Talaga must suspect as a Liberal hacks for working for corporatist media.

No provenance for making my comment? I make my comments based on what I have read. You would never recognize the many subtle sugestions hidden undertones hints and subliminal impressions made by the imperialist corporate media so don't bore me with your horeshit.

You're just another one of these self proclaimed progressives that fails to recognive the rampant horrific recklessness of you dear precious materialism that you can't bear to let go.

Chantel is a poster here on babble? Are you following the discussion/debate? If Chantel is a poster, then perhaps I don't know her handle.

And by the way, I usually judge people by their actions. On babble/forums, I have no choice but to judge people by their words

I wasn't talking about Chantal, there.

I'm going to revisit this comment with Chantal's shity imperialist corporate media undertones (not to mention the other icm's dirty servants on an icm broadcast)

According to Chantal, the NDP are "unprepared" in finding candidates like she has never seen before!

But wait now. Who did the background checks on Justin when he first ran for the liberals? Was any done?

The liberals were so desperate for a star candidate that the icm would give unlimited support to, they probably gave him the green light on the word go.

All 3 of these stooges are mouthpieces for the icm!

My  strong suggestion would  be to question and test that assumption before accepting it by perusing  a selection of threads to see just how anti-imperialist in fact babblers really are. You might perhaps try those dealing with Ukraine, Russia, Kremlingate, China, Syria and Venezuela for a start. Or you can track back posts by Ken, me or anyone else here. If you do I'm sure you'll find it a most interesting exploration and hope you'll share with us your thoughts on what you find.

Pondering

People can be anti-imperialists and yet not agree with you or not be sufficiently informed to understand that a particular action is imperialistic.

The danger of the MSM is that they mold public opinion through truth. Gaddafi was a horrible man. It was easy to convince people that he had to go or at least that attacking him was a good act. Some of the opposition to acting is based in "not our problem" thinking not anti-immerialist sentiment.

I questioned why we shouldn't "help" the Ukraine at first. That did not make me an imperialist it made me misguided. Not the same thing.

These labels can help communication but they can hinder it too when flung about as an insult.
