What is needed from NDP's Jagmeet Singh in the upcoming Debates?

What is needed from NDP's Jagmeet Singh in the upcoming Debates?

Jagmeet is running aginst 3 right-wing political leaders (Trudeau, Scheer, & May) not to mention Bernier.

Jagmeet needs to talk about Green jobs.

Jagmeet needs to attack the economic inequalities and unfairness in the Canadian taxation system. We need a 10% across the board inheritance tax. One percenters always hire tax accountants and financial lawyers to screw over the working class, the seniors and the millennials in Canadian society.

Jagmeet also needs to attack Trudeau for the Liberals lack of meeting, or even coming close, to any of Canada's climate change targets, and the farce of letting the oil and gas industry determine what their emissions are.

3 top issues are:

Canadian Jobs

Unfair Canadian economic system

Canadian Climate Change Targets

My main advice is that he needs to be well prepared. He needs to have a firm grasp on the issues that NR mentions. Whatever answer he chooses, he needs to articulate his response well, and he needs to know this well enough to be able to do this under pressure.

He needs a debate period. If Trudeau keeps backing out of them there won’t be any.

Watch any of the events he has been at. I watched him live in Courtenay yesterday. Trudeau is scared of him because he is the real deal. He seamlessly talks about the issues and weaves together various platform points as he does it.

There is video of him where he is presented with the brown-face story live on camera. He was thoughtful and hit all the right notes. If Ashton had been leader she would have given a lecture on intersectionality and she would be struggling not hitting her stride like Jagmeet appears to be.

I'll take your word that Singh is doing well on the campaign trail on the areas I've mentioned. That would represent a vast improvement over what I have seen previously. This thread was opened to discuss what Singh needs to do before the debate, and I offered what I thought was constructive criticism over what he should do. I don't know why Ashton was brought into this discussion since she's not going to be asked any of these kinds of questions on the campaign trail as a spokeswoman for the party.

I know that that probably wasn't your intent, but the last line of that post reads like a cheap shot at Ashton-and frankly, on a board where we had a poster, during the NDP leadership campaign, who kept making a nasty, indefinsibly vicious deal out of her use of that term-a perfectly legitmate and simple to explain term, actually-acting as though it was unforgiveable for her ever to have uttered it, I'd like to ask that that not be dredged up about her anymore on Babble.

I am sorry it was not meant as a personal attack but as a comment that she would have not been able to respond like Jagmeet did because of her terminology. Its hard for most people to be able to talk about their lived experience when it comes to racism and nearly impossible for a white person and her academic language would be off putting during a campaign. The NDP instead of being mired in an issue not of their making is getting good coverage because of this issue and he is using it well to highlight things like his health care plan that he outlined in Courtenay.

On a totally positive note I think that the Liberal war room has seen Singh with various editorial boards and that is why they want to limit the number of debates. Trudeau is no match for Singh in a debate, I have watched Jagmeet using his lawyering skills to jot cursory notes of long questions and then respond to all policy issues without the use of any of the kinds of binders they use in the House. I remember when Catherine Bell was an MP she was a terrible speaker when she used notes but when she was discussing the issues she was always self assured and informed. I think Jagmeet suffered from that kind of thing in the House at first when he was reading rather than speaking.
