Jagmeet Singh condemns U.S. move to legitimize West Bank settlements

I'm so happy about this! It didn't even bother me that he gratuitously called for a two-state solution (which is none of our business - that's up to the people there to determine). Good for Jagmeet - he didn't wait this time to be pushed into taking the right stand (as was the case with Bolivia).

Hope this link works: https://twitter.com/theJagmeetSingh/status/1196569701528350725

Yes, this is a positive step.

I tend to agree with Gideon Levi, though, about a two state solution.

Yeah, so do I, but it's none of the business of Canadians whether the people of the region decide to have one, two, or more states. Our business is to oppose the violation of international law, the aggression, the Occupation. And I think we should encourage the NDP in that direction.

The foolishness about "two-state solution" was obviously added by Jagmeet's back-room handlers - just the same way he screwed up a "better late than never" condemnation of the coup in Bolivia by adding a call for a "new election". The NDP doesn't get it and perhaps never will. But in the scheme of things, if they take a moderately positive step, compared to the extreme-right dunghole that Canada is descending into - we should pat them on the back and tell them they have some support for those stands.

[Spelling flame: He's Gideon Levy.]

Sorry about the spelling.

Good for Singh. He's saying what most people think. I wonder how long it will take for the SoCons to label him an anti-semite.

Press Release: CIJA Deeply Disappointed With Change to Canadian Vote at General Assembly

https://t.co/lMdGu5bZ4Q

"Canadian support for a resolution that references the Disputed Territories as 'Occupied Palestinian Territories' represents a distressing departure not only from the Canadian voting record at the UN, but a betrayal of longstanding Canadian foreign policy..."

Fear not, this is only a staged and meaningless public pillow-fight between politcal bedfellows designed to push a last-ditch Canadian effort to be voted into one of the rotating flunky-chairs on the UN Security Council. The UNGA votes were not expected to go Canada's way due to a number of reactionary pro-US foreign policy stances but also Canada's outrageous anti-Palestinian,  pro-Zionist positions at the UN. I expect Singh's rather weak-tea statement is designed to buttress this campaign and also change the growing widespread recognition that his 'Hill & Knowlton' NDP is just another No Difference Party.

Canada reverses UN stance on Palestinians in break with U.S. over settlements

Canada breaks with recent history by voting against Israel at the UN, signalling it disagrees with U.S.

The Israel lobby is freakin' right out. That's always a good sign!

Press Release: CIJA Deeply Disappointed with Change to Canadian Vote at UN General Assembly

Quote:

While Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland offered assurances that no other changes in vote were being contemplated, we are very disappointed that the Government of Canada did not stand firm in opposition to the annual Israel-bashing ritual at the UN General Assembly.

I think they should initiate civil or preferably criminal proceedings against Chrystia "My Grampa was a Hero, not a Nazi" Freeland. There's a CIJA campaign I would donate to!

That's a surprise.

I would like to see criminal proceedings against CIJA too. Complicity and aiding and abetting crimes against humanity sounds about right. With a list of their donors, funders and Canadian politicians who supported them published prominently on the front pages of every national newspaper.  Now there's a campaign I would donate to.

The two state solution is actually official NDP policy adopted by convention. Not that I think Singh or his handlers would be overly concerned about that.

Working with partners for peace in Israel and Palestine, respecting UN resolutions and international law, supporting peaceful co-existence in viable, independent states with agreed-upon borders, an end to Israeli occupation of Palestinian land, and an end to violence targeting civilians.

Of course the NDP supports a 'two-state solution.' Because it knows as Israel knows that 'without a two-state solution, Israel will suffer a demographic death*.' Thankfully, Apartheid Israel has itself foreclosed this option and it is indeed 'foolishness'. So, with great anticipation we await the settler-state's  passing, the return of its Indigenous Palestinian people, and hope for a far better future for all.

Sad to see people in desperation more optimistic than they should be.

Israel only suffers a demographic death if they do not shed the trappings of democracy. The imperial settlements where the people are controled by a legislative body they cannot vote in and do not suggest that there will be open internal borders in the future. Israeli politics has a consensus that everyone ignore the nonZionists so even those with a vote have no say in government. At this point it looks like Israel will look like a democracy in some respects until democracy threatens its structure and then it will abandon those principles for one that continues to preserve the state and its empire into places where people do not have responsible government.
