extreme weather conditions

The Big Wobble

How soon is now? Wednesday, 13 November 2019

A crisis is emerging across three continents as extreme weather conditions and disease are beginning to bite the farming industry leaving world banks warning the 2020s are set to be a decade of dramatic economic and social upheaval as another billion mouths will need to be fed. Meanwhile, Europe is losing 1000 small farms a day, due to a crop decline leading to price rises. Officials are using the word 'disaster' to describe the widespread crop failures happening all over America. In Asia pork prices this year have almost doubled after a quarter of the pig population has been slaughtered due to swine fever.

Western Europe, Ireland and the UK suffering a deluge of torrential rain

The BBC’s meteorologist Louise Lear warned parts of Northern Europe are experiencing a drastic plunge in temperatures. This drop is far below what it is expected at this time of year, with a freezing -30C recorded in Scandinavia this week. In Norway, 56 cm (almost 2 ft) of snow in fell on Tromsø last Sunday morning. Only once in the last 97 years has there been more snow on November 3 in Tromsø, claimed state meteorologist Sjur Wergeland. The snow amounts are historical for November. In 2006, 67 cm of snow was measured on November 3........

.......this statement lends truth to the theory of shifting north magnetic pole, south and east towards Siberia, leaving Canada´s Arctic in a warmer phase

The politics behind this of course is the need to be building regional - bioregional grass roots populist defence and protection movements

cco

The location of the magnetic north pole has no effect on the climate.

iyraste1313

There is a considerable body of scientific evidence suggesting that the majority of heat to the planet derives from the core of the earth, along homogenous temperature belts oriented to the axis of the north and south magnetic poles...

What seems to be key here is the relationship of the 2 magnetic poles...and as they recently have been accelerating and shifting and widening, the magnetic field of the Earth is weakening...which is a partial explanation for increasing penetration of solar rays (another I`ve tried to follow is the weakening protective layer of ozone)....

But now with the sun entering a drastic shutdown of its flare energies...this also partially accounts for increasing glaciation and episodes of extreme cold (Alberta having the coldest winter on record for last year?)

What is crucial now is the increasing water vapour and precipitation....I am going out on a limb here, but it appears that the Earth`s core is heated via cosmic energy from the sun, much like a microwave, causing the ocean floors to superheat, releasing methane gas fields into the atmosphere in the form of increasing CO2 and H2O!

I read some time ago about experiments taking place in Berne Switzerland experimenting with the effects of eletronic rays on water vapur accumulation....

I`m just a rank dilitante on this, but at least I`m open to learn the truth....

cco

All of that stuff about the core comes from fringe conspiracy sites with no basis in scientific reality. Both the Earth's and the sun's magnetic fields are reasonably well-understood. The threat from the poles flipping is a weakening of our magnetic field and increased exposure to solar radiation – cancer, not heat.

iyraste1313

I am no engineer, but to suggest there is no science behind these conspiracy theories?...

Shifting Ice Caps

Magnetic Poles and Ice Caps move in Tandem

Looking at the two satellite pictures taken back in 1979 and in 2003 for the Arctic, we find a considerable erosion of the Ice Cap. However, upon closer inspection it seems that the melting of the Ice Cap is uneven along its perimeter. In fact, when you look deeper at the area encircled in red, it is clear that the ice is building towards Siberia and is moving away from Canada. At the same time, the strength of the Earth’s magnetic shield has decreased 15% in the western hemisphere over the years  from 1850 to 2012. During the same period, the south polarity magnetic pole, in the northern hemisphere, has wandered about 1,100 km (685 miles) into the Arctic Circle. “The rate of the magnetic pole’s movement has increased in the last  century compared with fairly steady movement in the previous four centuries”, said Joseph Stoner and the Oregon researchers. The Oregon team examined the sediment records from several Arctic lakes. Looking at the sediment records of the Earth’s magnetic field at the time, scientists used carbon dating to track changes in the magnetic field. They found that the magnetic pole had shifted significantly in the past thousand years. It generally migrated between northern Canada and Siberia, and has occasionally moved in other directions. The rate of shift of the magnetic pole is on the increase and it seems that in the past decade alone, it had moved a distance close to the distance it had moved in the whole of the past century. Comparing the two phenomena, there seems to be a relation between the location of the magnetic pole and the location of ice build up; where both are moving towards Siberia in tandem?  Figure 100- Magnetic Pole Movement in Antarctica between the year 1909 and 2005Older ice cap will melt while at the same time new ice cap will form over new location. Melting occurs faster, as the former ice cap has now been covered by a warmer Temperature Belt, but the build up of new ice cap comes from precipitation, and accumulation of ice takes place over hundreds of years, and new ice caps take centuries to fully form. Similar phenomenon is reported in Antarctica, where the ice cap is eroding in the west where the magnetic pole is moving away from and is building in the east of Antarctica, where the magnetic pole is moving towards.

I'm really not keen to spend my time debunking pseudo-scientific charlatans, but this is too ridiculous to ignore. Your first 2 links, to Wikipedia and a BBC story, are fine, but the third link is to pure shit. This web site, Earth Changes, doesn't even give the name of the lunatic who writes it. I'd be ashamed too, if I wrote this stuff. For example, check out this post The Great Deluge. It provides an elaborate story about how there might have been a big flood just about the time of Noah. You see, "Noah is estimated to have lived between 8,000 and 9,000 BC? Could it be that 10,600 – 11,000 years ago, the ninth planet had approached our inner solar system?"

According to this wacko, that would have caused the magnetic poles to move, which would have melted the ice caps at that time, causing the big flood. This guy thinks everything can be explained by the magnetic poles. A one-trick pony.

Anyway, he doesn't stop there. He also suggests that (as explained in detail in yet another insane post) the earth's rotational speed may have been reduced by a factor of 10, to only 36 days per year at the time of this flood, and this accounts for why some people in the bible seem to have lived for many hundreds of years.

The extra bit of magic is that the pineal gland, which he claims controls the pace of all biological processes in the human body, is synchronized with the day/night period. This would have slowed things down so much, that people only aged 36 days per year, and would thus live much longer.

I could write several books about all the things that are egregiously wrong in the above speculation, but it is so bad, that as Dirac once said, "It's not even wrong." Everything on this site is useless nonsense.

voice of the damned

^ I believe the writer's name might be T.S. Niazi, as all the articles I checked out list his name at the end. And the pieces seem to be taken from some book, self-published, I would guess, available on Amazon.

I think he might have some sort of Islamic religious orientation, as he seems to focus a bit on Muslim interpetations of the Old Testament. Though one of the books he references in a footnote also has something to do with Atlantis.

voice of the damned

This is the book the pages are excerpted from...

https://tinyurl.com/vt54uro

From what I can tell, he tries to refute the "Mayan calendar" prophets and their idea about the world ending in 2012, and put forth his own occultic system of prediction. Quack vs. quack, as it were.

If there were 36 days in a year because the rotation of the earth slowed down, that would distort gravity.  Arthritis sufferers would be happy.

Actually, I am wrong.

Article

The rotation of the earth has a negligible effect on gravity.

From my reading, the earth is slowly slowing down. Every 100 years, the earth slows down 1/500th of a second.

Too bad people are not focussing on the issue at hand, re magnetic polar shifts, weakening fields and causes of climate change.....I am open to serious criticism of the theory, not to shoot the messenger bs!

The matter is serious as a lot of people cling to the global warming vs. CO2 accumulations.......

And focus on electrification vs fossil fuel use.....in the case of Bolivia of course the effect is the same...imperialism and death

Authored by Michael Snyder via The End of The American Dream blog,

There certainly hasn’t been a lack of seismic activity so far in 2020.  Just a few days ago, I wrote about the horrific earthquake swarm that Puerto Rico is currently experiencing.  More than 1,000 earthquakes have rattled Puerto Rico so far, and as you will see below, it was just hit by another very large earthquake.  But right now volcanic eruptions have taken center stage.  In particular, a massive eruption in the Philippines is making headlines all over the world, but what most people don’t realize is that several other volcanoes have also blown their tops in spectacular fashion within the past week.  Suddenly, volcanoes all over the globe are shooting giant clouds of ash miles into the air, and this is greatly puzzling many of the experts.

Upsurge in big earthquakes predicted for 2018 as Earth rotation slows

Posted on May 18, 2018by T.Niazi

The big title on the Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/nov/18/2018-set-to-be-year-of-big... caught my attention, so I started reading it until my eyes caught up with the paragraph that reads  “Exactly why decreases in day length should be linked to earthquakes is unclear although scientists suspect that slight changes in the behavior of Earth’s core could be causing both effects.” If what I introduced earlier on Earth Magnets and Earth Spin Speed pages of this site, are proven to be true, then the answer to the scientists should be simple.

//planetearth2017.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/figure-117-inner-core-double-layer1.png?w=640&h=409

The outer Inner Core; a permanent magnet, is a ductile matter under the extreme pressure and temperature. Its poles are not located on opposite direction on the surface of Earth. Due to pulling/ pushing forces of other planets’ magnets, the poles are shifting; in a phenomena that scientists had called “wandering poles” . A sudden shift could trigger two  events:

  1. 1- Ripples in the Outer Core, that echo through the Inner and Outer Mantle and Crust, and cause tremors, some of which at high magnitudes, specially close to fault lines.
  2. 2- Change of the angle that separates the permanent magnetic field force lines and the electrons flowing at right angle to the axis of rotation at the inner shell of the Inner Mantle. The Lorentz Force that is created there follows the electromagnetic left hand rule, and brings the Earth to spin in anticlockwise direction. Any change in the angle would influence the strength of Lorentz force in the direction perpendicular to the electrons flow’ direction. At right angle Earth gets the highest Lorentz Force and therefore the highest spin speed. Any degree lower than right angle reduces the Lorentz Force that consequently bring a slow down to the Earth spin speed.

7 Major Earth Changes Happening Right Now That Everyone Needs To Know About

Authored by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog,

There has never been a time in modern human history when our planet has been changing as rapidly as it is changing right now.

The sun is behaving very strangely, freakishly cold weather is breaking out all over the world, ocean temperatures continue to rise, volcanoes all over the globe are shooting ash miles into the air, Australia is experiencing the worst wildfires that they have ever seen, and the north magnetic pole has been moving at a pace that is deeply alarming scientists.

Could it be possible that all of this bizarre activity is leading up to some sort of a crescendo?

Sadly, most people don’t even realize what is happening, and that is because the mainstream media only emphasizes stories that fit with the particular narratives that they are currently pushing.

But it has gotten to the point where nobody can deny that really weird things are happening.  The following are 7 major earth changes that are happening right now that everyone needs to know about…

#1 According to NASA, solar activity has dropped to the lowest level in 200 years.  The following comes from the official NASA website

The forecast for the next solar cycle says it will be the weakest of the last 200 years. The maximum of this next cycle – measured in terms of sunspot number, a standard measure of solar activity level – could be 30 to 50% lower than the most recent one. The results show that the next cycle will start in 2020 and reach its maximum in 2025.

Of course NASA insists that everything will be just fine, but others are wondering if this lack of solar activity could potentially spawn another “Little Ice Age”

When solar activity gets really low, it can have the effect of a “mini ice age.” The period between 1645 and 1715 was marked by a prolonged sunspot minimum, and this corresponded to a downturn in temperatures in Europe and North America. Named after astronomers Edward Maunder and his wife Annie Russell Maunder, this period became known as the Maunder Minimum. It is also known as “The Little Ice Age.”

#2 When solar activity gets very low, it has traditionally meant very cold and very snowy winters, and right now we are seeing snow in places that are extremely unusual

The Egyptian capital, Cairo, was also turned white at the start of the month, despite the city not having snow in 112 years, and experiencing less than an inch of rain each year.

Many parts of Greece were covered in snow in early January, with low temperatures and strong frost.

The cold front named ‘Hephaestion’, after an Ancient Greek army general, thrashed the Greek landscape, bringing rain, sleet and ice in the east.

#3 Meanwhile, the oceans of the world just keep getting hotter and hotter.  In fact, ocean temperatures off the California coast have been setting new all-time record highs.  It is odd that this is taking place at a time of such low solar activity, but according to NBC News this is definitely happening…

The world’s oceans hit their warmest level in recorded history in 2019, according to a study published Monday that provides more evidence that Earth is warming at an accelerated pace.

The analysis, which also found that ocean temperatures in the last decade have been the warmest on record, shows the impact of human-caused warming on the planet’s oceans and suggests that sea-level rise, ocean acidification and extreme weather events could worsen as the oceans continue to absorb so much heat.

#4 There have always been wildfires, but we have never seen anything like this.  During the summer, countless catastrophic fires burned millions upon millions of acres in the Amazon rainforest, and this winter Australia’s fires have actually been a total of 46 percent larger than the fires that we witnessed in the Amazon.  Australia has never seen anything like this before, and according to NASA the smoke from these fires will completely circle the Earth

Once was bad enough, but smoke from Australia’s devastating bushfires is set to return to the country to complete a round-the-world trip that has seen it impact on air quality as far away as South America.

By Jan. 8, the smoke had made its way halfway around the world and will make at least one full circuit, according to scientists at NASA, citing satellite tracking data. New Zealand experienced severe air quality issues, while hazy skies and colorful sunsets and sunrises were seen in parts of Chile and Argentina.

#5 During the first half of 2020, volcanoes all over the world have been roaring to life and have been shooting giant clouds of hot ash miles into the sky.  For example, in the Philippines the Taal volcano shot ash nine miles into the air on Sunday, it has also been shooting scorching hot lava half a mile into the air, and the ground around the volcano is starting to crack wide open.

But even after all the devastation that we have already seen, authorities are warning that it could “re-explode at any moment”

The gray ash is knee-deep. It covers the homes, the bloated cadavers of cows and horses, their limbs protruding at unnatural angles in the shadow of a sulking volcano that could re-explode at any moment.

“My home is now gone,” said Melvin Mendoza, 39, a boatman who returned on Tuesday to Taal, the volcanic island in the middle of a freshwater lake just 40 miles south of Manila, which erupted on Sunday like an atomic bomb mushroom cloud.

Let us hope that this volcanic activity does not spread throughout that general area, because the largest super volcano caldera in the entire world has been discovered not too far from the Philippines

A team including members from GNS Science have identified an ancient mega-volcano that could have the largest known caldera on Earth.

The 150km (93.2 miles) wide feature is on the crest of Benham Rise, an oceanic plateau off the Philippines coast. In comparison, the caldera at Taupō is about 35km (21.8 miles) wide, and that at Yellowstone about 60km (37.3 miles).

#6 All of this is taking place while the north magnetic pole is moving toward Russia at a very rapid pace.  The following comes from CNN

The north magnetic pole has been slowly moving across the Canadian Arctic toward Russia since 1831, but its swift pace toward Siberia in recent years at a rate of around 34 miles per year has forced scientists to update the World Magnetic Model — used by civilian navigation systems, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and US and British militaries — a year ahead of schedule.

#7 On top of everything else, the Earth’s magnetic field has been steadily weakening over time, and this has some experts extremely concerned

In a forum on Quora, science fiction writer and journalist C Stuart Hardwick revealed that satellite data, such as those collected by the European Space Agency’s SWARM mission, revealed that the magnetic field has been weakening for about 5 percent each century. He noted that currently, the strength of the magnetic field is at 29.5 microteslas, which is 14 percent weaker than its previous state three centuries ago. According to Hardwick, the SWARM satellites detected increased deterioration within regions of the magnetic field over North America. He said these regions weakened by about 3.5 percent over the span of just three years.

Without our magnetic field, life on Earth could not exist for long.

And it doesn’t have to disappear completely to be a massive problem.  If it simply gets weak enough, dwelling on the surface is going to become exceedingly difficult.

As I keep warning, our planet is becoming increasing unstable, and what we have experienced so far is just the beginning.

The demands of life can often cause us to focus on things that don’t really matter.  Hopefully we can get more people to wake up while there is still time, because the clock is ticking for humanity and for our planet as a whole....

CO2 global warming cannot account for these phenomena...whatever the causes (and I have expressed some of the theories) we need to be preparing!

According to the Iraqi Meteorological Organization, the country is currently experiencing a cold polar air mass, which reached its climax early on Tuesday morning. Current weather forecasts indicate that the air mass will cover the entire country, causing a sharp fall in temperatures.

“Snowfall may continue until Wednesday given the very cold weather,” Amer al-Jaberi, media head of the Iraqi Meteorological Centre, told the AFP. “This cold wave came from Europe.”

No - none of this. Climate change is braking down the normal currents that keep the cold air at the pole and it is ocming downward and going everywhere else. Overall the earth is warmer so when you see it colder somewhere it is due to the place that should be cold being warmer.

But the poles shifting around are not the cause of this polar vortex we are experiencing. These are seperate issues.

I know, that's why I posted the video. It explains the physics of magnetic pole movement, with no mention whatsoever of climate change. It was intended to show how phony the dreck that has been posted earlier in this thread is.

iyraste1313

the video is highly dubious, certainly at odds with the magnetic pole movements theory of climate change.....

but you must offer a little more than expletives to provide a case for the opposite....I rely on the evidence...which presently seems to support the theory due to climate changes in the middle east and Europe and to the general warming trend of the Pacific Northwest....

It´s pathetic, people´s outrage over uncomfortable theories...science once believed in flate earth, Earth thecentre of the galaxy ad nauseum...and given the present political climate where any scientist who reports theories at odds with Mainstream loses their funding and their job?

What this comment shows is a complete ignorance of how science, as a social enterprise, works in the universities where it is mostly located. While one can always find the occasional scientist who will sell out to the tobacco industry or big oil, the vast majority are honestly seeking true knowledge. And as a community, they reject the sort of pseudo-scientific bullshit you have been posting here. Nothing to do with discomfort, it's all about being consistent with known facts, which none of this garbage is.

And by the way, it was in 240 BC that the greek scientist Eratosthenes not only stated that the earth was round, but calculated its radius accurately to within a few percent. At the time of Columbus, no educated person believed that the earth was flat. The dispute was over the size. Most people agreed with Eratosthenes' calculation, but Columbus argued, incorrectly and probably dishonestly, that it was much smaller.

Science as a social institution is based 100%  on funding....where is it coming from? The corporates and the Governments...a totally controlled system!
There are legions of independent scientists who have lost their careers and funding for daring to suggest any alternatives......as in the example of the global warming debate, where any scientist who dares suggest alternatives is silenced.....

As in the case of China, where the whistle blower scientists, not only lose their careers, but their lives....

Again stop the expletives....you just lose any credibility. I have shown the engineering sequence of the gene...the evidence of the correlation between the temperature belts and the core magnetic pole axis tilt..just provide evidence to disprove this!

As for that 14 minute video.......the errors in the statements are glaring....of course you can choose to pin your loyalties on those well paid career scientists, funded by god only knows how many big pharma, big war industries you like...I tend to read the scientists who have no monetary interests at stake, no fear of the authorities.........

so in the example of the bioengineered corona cum HIV cum SARS virus, the scientists who have mapped the genes, to demonstrate  that the virus highly probable was engineered......

Yes, I agree that it is pointless for us to attempt conversation, given such profound differences on the fundamentals of reality. I will not reply to you again.

I do not actually think that you are a right wing troll here trying to blow up topics by introducing ridiculous conspiracy throries but if you were you could not do a better job. Pity that you do not see the results of your derailing conversations with pointless fantasies. It serves to prevent any rational evidence-based conversations or opinions based on reality and instead turns threads in to wars over the existence of fantasies.

While I do not suspect you, I do suspect many of your sources as being stuff put out to distract people from real conversation.

While I do not think this is intentional on your part I still think you have a responsibility as you show no discipline or regard for any standards in proof or logic before posting not only a theory that in itself might be a waste of time, you go on to say that it is proven as fact or somehow incontrovertible.

Then here you are engaging with someone who actually has been restrained and claiming his comment to contain expletives. I have not seen any.

You would get a little less flak if you would stop short of demanding that people accept your fantasies as proof.

and please do not get into a rant denying climate change as it looks you are primed to start. there are plenty of right wing conspiracy sites very open to that where you won't have people demanding a more evidence based rational focus of the conversations.

MegB

When people post baseless conjecture and wild conspiracy theories here it undermines the credibility of babble and, by extension, rabble. iyraste1313, you can post this unsubstantiated nonsense at a site that has no standard of veracity but you cannot do so here. Second warning.

voice of the damned

I think it can be kind of subjective deciding what is and isn't "unsubstantiated nonsense", even though I tend to think, as the judge said about obscenity, I know it when I see it.

And yeah, a lot of Lyraste's stuff fits the bill, by my standards. Personally, though, my main issue with his posting is the bad formating, where it's impossible to tell what's a quote and what's original content. I'd like to suggest he use the bolding function at the top of the posting box to indicate quotes. If he can figure out copy/paste(and he obviously can), he should be able to figure out bolding.

MegB

Here's my problem VOTD: there are threads I'd like to promote but don't because of dodgy content, flame wars, all manner of pissing contests, etc. That means that some important conversations and excellent information isn't reaching a wider audience or encouraging new users to post without fear of being targeted by people who are hostile or threatened by anyone new to babble. We have a lot of smart people here on babble and some great content but diverse it ain't. That's a problem when it's largely the same small group of white guys posting the majority of the content.

Well said MegB and thanks.

Boiling frogs and tropical storms

People living around the Bay of Bengal know that the storms are getting worse: 140,000 people died when cyclone Nargis struck the Irrawaddy Delta in Burma (Myanmar) in May 2008. So do people living around the Caribbean, on the U.S. eastern seaboard, and at the western end of “typhoon alley” (the Philippines, China, Korea and Japan).

But they needed hard evidence, and now they have it. A study by researchers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of Wisconsin at Madison, published on Monday in the Proceedings of the (U.S.) National Academy of Sciences, confirms that there is a direct link between warmer oceans, more water vapour in the air, and bigger storms.

Not more storms, but much bigger. In fact, the likelihood that any given tropical storm will grow into a Category 3 or higher hurricane (or the equivalent in terms of cyclones and typhoons) is rising by eight per cent per decade.

Could it just be natural variation?

James Kossin, lead author of the new study, doesn’t think so: “We have high confidence that there is a human fingerprint on these changes.” The data extend over four decades, which means the number of Category 3+ hurricanes has grown by a third since 1980.

It can only get worse, as will almost every other climate impact. The average global temperature now is 1.1°C above the pre-industrial average, but there is already enough carbon dioxide in the air to give us another half degree of warming when it delivers its final load.

Never mind all the extra carbon dioxide that will be dumped into the atmosphere next month, next year, next decade. What will just the amount that we have already put there do to the tropical storms? The point will come, as with most of the other climate changes, when the local environment is no longer compatible with a normal human lifestyle.

For the 500 million people who live around the Bay of Bengal, the world’s biggest bay, the breaking point may be massive cyclones and floods that are made worse by sea level rise. For others it may be intense heat and permanent drought. In some places, it will be famine. But at least a quarter of the world’s population is going to have to move in the next fifty years.

Where to? No idea. With almost eight billion people, the world is pretty full up already.

Interviewing a couple of climate scientists recently, I saw for the first time a graph, modelling the future of a runaway warming world, that explicitly included a “death” term.

Mass death, that is. It made me feel a bit frog-like.

Old Farmer's Almanac forecasts bouts of 'extra-deep cold' in Canada this winter

Get ready for some extremely cold days this winter, according to the 2023 Canadian edition of The Old Farmer’s Almanac.

“Frosty, frigid, freezing . . . however you say ‘cold,’ that’s what’s in store for most Canadians this winter,” the editor of the Canadian edition, Janice Stillman, said in a statement.

“As an added ‘bonus,’ we also expect a number of unusual mini-deep-freezes throughout many parts of the country, which will sneak up and surprise with their intensity.”

The periodical also predicts that the cold weather will come early, with “icebox conditions” arriving sometime in the second half of November.

Already, wintry weather struck in Northern Canada this month, when parts of Nunavut experienced temperatures that fell into the low single digits last week.

Founded in 1792,and the oldest continuously published periodical in North America, The Old Farmer’s Almanac claims to have an overall accuracy rate of 80 per cent – a figure meteorologists and weather experts have questioned over the years. Last year, the Almanac was highly accurate in predicting precipitation trends, but was only about 50 per cent accurate in forecasting the direction of temperature, according to the periodical’s own analysis of its forecast.
