NW Ontario Municipal Leaders Calling on Senate to Remove Lynn Beyak

In Northwestern Ontario, municipal leaders have taken steps to try to pressure the Senate to give Senator Lynn Beyak the boot. First last week we saw seven young municipal leaders release a statement asking for the Senate to remove her:

And now today we hear that the municipal council in her hometown of Dryden will be debating a motion tonight, calling on the Senate to remove her to help protect the good name of the community:

It's nice to see these leaders in the region step up and act to push back against this Senator who should have been removed long ago.

This afternoon a development in this story; now that it seems that the pressure is ramping up on Sen. Beyak, after refusing to apologize forever, we are now getting words of apology... Too little too late? I can't help but think so

Haven't researched this myself, but there's this:

Removing senators a difficult task under the Constitution

If for two consecutive Sessions of the Parliament he fails to give his Attendance in the Senate;

If he takes an Oath or makes a Declaration or Acknowledgment of Allegiance, Obedience, or Adherence to a Foreign Power, or does an Act whereby he becomes a Subject or Citizen, or entitled to the Rights or Privileges of a Subject or Citizen, of a Foreign Power

If he is adjudged Bankrupt or Insolvent, or applies for the Benefit of any Law relating to Insolvent Debtors, or becomes a public Defaulter;

If he is attainted of Treason or convicted of Felony or of any infamous Crime;

If he ceases to be qualified in respect of Property or of Residence; provided, that a Senator shall not be deemed to have ceased to be qualified in respect of Residence by reason only of his residing at the Seat of the Government of Canada while holding an Office under that Government requiring his Presence there.

You'd have to wonder who they're so afraid of. The federal Cons have totally washed their hands of Beyak-if they do get back in power, the Cons aren't going to punish anybody for calling her out.

Other than somehow ending up on the exalted and all-powerful Fort Frances-Rainy River Board of Education, Beyak never won an election in her life.

What the hell did the Dryden councillors think they had to lose here?

Another update on this story. Now both Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) & the Grand Council of Treaty #3 are calling out Dryden City Council for their inaction here, with NAN Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler suggesting that First Nations do their business in other communities than Dryden. Thanks to Nishnawbe Aski Nation & Grand Council Treaty #3 for speaking out here. Dryden Council sent a message with their silence last week and I'm glad that's being called out. I hope that Dryden Council changes their mind on Senator Beyak because it's never too late to do the right thing.
