So in other words, successful political parties do it
Canada's most popular premier's first NDP majority government
That's Trumpism, North. Tommy Douglas didn't demand loyalty oaths from his civil service.
Actually this is Canada so we are talking about Trudeauism and Harperism and BC Liberalism
I remember when Gordon Campbell first took power how he brought in all those right-wingers many from Alberta and fired many in the Civil Service, so let's not be naive here about what we are dealing with. Look at what happened to the way Glen Clark was treated with police raiding his house with TV cameras rolling and compare that to what happened with BC Rail. So unless you can come up with some way to protect civil servants fire every single one who is not loyal to the current NDP government
Time for John Horgan to fire everyone in the civil service that is not loyal to the NDP and give those great jobs to his NDP supportersSeriously? The idea that the civil service exists as a wing of the elected government to be stuffed with cronies and loyalists is the kind of garbage that came out of Harper's government. Michael Wernick resigned when it became clear he was acting as Trudeau's partisan henchman instead of Clerk of the Privy Council. There's a division between politics and administration for a reason.
While I don't particularly want the BC NDP government to start hiring poeple who've worked in the NDP's head office, I don't want them hiring commited neoliberal freidmanites like Fazil Mihlar either.
I also think they should stop hiring people connected to Vision Vancouver, given how badly Vision bungled the housing situation during their decade in power in Vancouver.
Agreed
So what is the purity test NR. How do you determine if they are "loyal" to the NDP? I think your party will need a security wing to do extensive background checks on all the civil service to check their social media sites for signs of disloyalty. All hail the party.
I remember when I was a kid in the Maritimes when the government changed so did the civil service right down to the people who plowed the roads. Not the best of systems in my opinion.
North are you looking for a civil service job for yourself?
Naw
The Liberals are in such disarray, and there is the threat from the Conservative Party, that perhaps the Greens might eventually become the Official Opposition, although with George Heyman as Environment Minister the NDP will continue to have a strong environmental platform
Get out the pallbearers The Liberals appear to be dying a slow death

Or they could go and work and support George Heyman the Minister of Environment

Liberals can't buy elections any more

John Horgan on Whole Foods not allowing staff to wear poppies: Give your head a shake. I think the CEO listened as staff are now wearing poppies
Time for John Horgan to fire everyone in the civil service that is not loyal to the NDP and give those great jobs to his NDP supporters
Horgan is not allowed to do that. The point of the civil service is that there are a core of government employees keeping things going who work outside of the control of any party.
Nobody in any province is allowed to bring back the "spoils system" of the 19th century.
Anyone who was appointed by the Liberals needs to go
Anyone who was appointed by the Liberals needs to go
Gee and I really like Dr. Henry.
